Got tickets to see "Look Mom I'm Swell" from my moms secretary when I graduated grade school in 2011. From the Tony impressions, found a passion in celebratory impersonations, and made $1,000 for beer money in college. Took my mom to a stand up performance and my Prep graduate brother to an improv show, where I saw them laugh more than I've ever seen them laugh in our time together. Updating here, just to make sure that people know to visit this small theater. I love theater and this the a great place to get your theater fix in the burbs. It's not the rush-rush environment, it's rather calm and homey. This is great, especially when you want a laidback night. I would love to see younger people come to this theater, it is usually packed with older peeps. read more

As an Act II member, I have enjoyed all of your wonderful productions. They have been entertaining, funning and memorable. Sunday my family and I were treated to one of the funniest productions, 'I love you, you're perfect, now change'. All of the four actors were laugh out loud hysterical. We laughed so hard, tears were streaming down our faces. We were unable to secure a program, so we could not identify the actors, but were able to find out the names of two of them, Michael Indeglio and Jennifer Babiak. We understand this show was their first at Act II. Please bring them back. They were excellent and we would love to see them in your productions next year. Although this might be a wonderful in person theater, Electile Dysfunction was a bit dated (upcoming election on Nov 3rd was well past) and a little cringe worthy ( Melania Trump skit). However, the Q&A between presidents and reporters was absolutely tremendous. I wish the theater all the best in the future. read more

My friend had a couple of tickets to see Bad Dates, so I joined her for a night in the theatre! Although I've driven by this theatre for many years, I've never been. I was pleasantly surprised by this gem. The theatre is a very small, intimidate setting, which is new to me, but a nice change. The show itself was very good. You will definitely find an older crowd here. The theatre was very warm, which I was pleasantly surprised about & appreciated on a cold winter's night. The staff was very friendly. This makes a fun date night or girls night out, if you enjoy theatre. Lots of great restaurants in close proximity, as well. We were lucky enough to find a parking space right behind the theatre, but there's plenty of parking in the area. I'll definitely be coming back soon! read more

We went there for My Fair Lady. We expected to see some civic-type acting level. We were blown away by the cast. Since it is a small theater the facial expressions are not lost on the audience. The little things are more evident in how the actors present. You are also right there. You don't need to worry about site lines. We will definitely be attending again. read more

Folks, there isn't a bad seat in the theater. It's a small enough theater that every small expression change of every thespian on stage is captured. And the cast members in the productino of My Fair Lady were very expressive. Though the stage is small and the cast was all of NINE people, they did a phenomenal job. From the looks of it, the cast WAS the crew; if there was any crew back stage, you couldn't tell at all. The sets were simple yet multi-tasking. We got season tickets this year for the first time and have thoroughly enjoyed all of the performances. We especially enjoyed "It's a Wonderful Life." We didn't know what to expect from a one man performance but it was truly amazing! It was so entertaining that when it was over the whole theater immediately got on their feet for a standing ovation. I was blown away by the caliber of performance at this intimate Ambler venue. We are enthusiastic theater goers but usually go into town for performances. Act II is closer to home, easy to access and the performance we attended was stellar. We've seen several of the actors in shows around Philadelphia and it was a pleasure to see them in a small theater where every detail is nuanced. We will be attending as many performances in possible in the future. Every seat in the house is a good one so don't worry if you are on one of the sides or farther back. I rarely ever comment on a stage performace that I have watched and never want to give it a standing ovation. I had the extreme pleasure this week, however, of observing the Act 2s presentation of Driving Ms. Daisey and was astounded by both the quality of the presentation and the quality of the acting. At the conclusion I felt compelled to stand up and clap my hands and now, days later, I feel compelled to write this review. This production somehow touched me so deeply that it brought me to tears (a truely rare emotion for me). My only regret is that I failed to add a bravo along with my hand clapping. Well, I plan to correct that mistake now- Bravo, bravo, bravo! read more

A super-small theater - and not a bad seat in the house. (It's so small that even the back row is fine.) Support your local theater!!!

Conveniently located about 2 blocks from the Ambler train station, Act II is in the heart of the Ambler business district with a half dozen dining choices within easy walking distance. To be honest, the season schedule is far too heavy, in my opinion, on skits comedy and one actor shows under current artistic director Tony Braithwaite; I have to admit, though, that my opinion isn't reflected in the crowds of people at the midweek matinees I attend so maybe I'm offbase. One note, though: Parking for the Wednesday matinees makes my friend, who drives to the show, go crazy so you might want to go at night or on the weekend or take public transit. We live in center city so last night was my first experience at Act II. (It took 30 minutes by car tops) I was blown away by the quality of the production and the set & lighting design. It far exceeded expectations. I have been asking people all morning if they have ever been there and most people I have been speaking to haven't heard of the theater. It is truly a hidden gem. I cannot wait until the 2011-2012 calendar comes out! I will be back in a heartbeat. read more

I won 2 tickets to the playhouse at a basket auction. Last night, my husband and I took our 2 daughters to the playhouse to see their holiday show, Making Spirits Bright. Boy were we pleasantly surprised! We all smiled and laughed through the 70 minute performance. We could not believe that the show was over, the time flew by. What a wonderful way to raise your Holiday spirits. I would totally recommend going to see the show. This is a review of Tom Foolery at the Act II Playhouse. I love Tom Lehrer. I hated Tom Foolery. Perhaps this production of Tom Foolery was no worse than any other production of Tom Foolery. This production was comprised of four performers, three of whom were terrible singers. Painful to listen to. They read liner notes from Tom Lehrer's albums. They (badly) sang Tom Lehrer songs. Occasionally, they played recordings of Tom Lehrer singing his own songs. That was my favorite part. But imagine going to a play, "The King and I," for example, and the actors say, "Let's take a moment to listen to the original Broadway cast." That would be weird, right? You know what would be a good time? An audience sing-along to recordings by Tom Lehrer. You know what is not a good time? Listening to people on stage badly sing Tom Lehrer songs. read more
