I have found…read morethat even the not-great shows ("Mother Courage and Her Children, I'm talking about you) the energy and passion that local productions brings to the stage is wonderful. I came to visit DCP Theatre because one of my dear friends was directing a play there, and one of my favorite sequined jackets was making it's theatrical debut in her play. Yes, I gave a big round of applause for that jacket. The theater itself is decently sized, with a large flat gravel parking lot, a cute lobby and comfortable seating. I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. The volunteers were to a person friendly and accommodating, and the 'snack bar' of home-made and packaged goods was reasonably priced. It's an older building, which they've been working to restore and upgrade with the funds they earn producing plays, holding raffles, etc. The play itself was funny, well directed (yes I am biased here), and a good pace. It never dragged, the actors were wonderful and I had a great time. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon.

A small local theater (that only fits about 130 people) has a friendly staff on and off stage. It is the only local venue that is historic, comfortable, and amazingly lovely. The seating is also wonderful, and I noticed when I was there to see the show, they are doing fundraising for renovations which is important for others to still have it available for future generations. This is a no frills theater which means no amenities are served however anywhere you sit you are sure to get a great view of the production. I went here last night for the production of "Silent Sky" which is an inspirational story of how dedication and passion will stop no man or woman, as this play focused more on how women had to fight tooth and nail to pursue their dreams. They may run for about 3 weeks , Thursday thru Sunday. You have to check the schedule on the website for the times. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. Starting at $21, with discounts for seniors and students. Also special prices for Thursday night performances. I recently went to see William Shakespeare's play " Much to do about Nothing ". I really enjoyed it! The theater is small, holds about 200 people. The staff is very friendly, always welcoming you when you enter. The bathrooms always clean and they even have snacks for sale during the intermission. The reason they get 4 stars is because there is only street parking on Germantown Ave. and a parking lot for the stores in the area is about a block away. So you have to get there early to find a spot. They also have nice shops and restaurants in the area. I would highly recommend this place for a fun night out or weekend matinee!

Great experience on Main Street in Ambler…read more Ambler Theater is a very relaxed experience with a hand full of staff that makes you feel welcome. The movie theater is very old however it brings with it wonderful charm. My girlfriend and I have been coming here for just about a year now and are thinking of becoming members (this is a non-profit movie theater that exists by the support of its members). This spot reminds me of the Ritz movie theaters in center city without the hustle bustle. Definitely check it out for a date night or a reason to check out the quiant town of Ambler. We got there 5 minutes before 8pm and were trying to find 2 seats together. There were mostly single seats but there was one 2 seats together in the corner right next to the entrance. They were marked 'for guests coming in late so as not to disturb the show'. We were pretty sure it would be fine and were about to take our seats when one of their attendants rudely stopped us saying we had to take 2 separate single seats. One seat was on the left and the other on the right across the room, how ridiculous!! My husband argued and finally she agreed, but on leaving, she said 'a--ho--! We were totally shocked at that outrageous language. We kept our cool and did not want to cause a scene. We have been going to numerous theatres in the suburbs, in Philadelphia, even Broadway and have never been treated like that or ever had such a horrible experience. This theatre is just a small, run-down, 'Mom & Pop' theatre with such uncomfortable hard chairs (wooden chairs covered with red cloth just to look nice). There is probably no backstage as the performers have to go back and forth through the entrance next to our seats. The stage is so small that the performers stand just about 2 feet away from the front row! This was our first and last patronage to this lousy theatre run by a 'no-class' management.
