One of Philly's many hidden gems!…read more After googling events happening this weekend I saw an exhibit for Rashaad Newsome - "To Be Real" was on display at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center... I'm always looking for something new, interesting and mentally stimulating so decided to check it out and was impressed. Let me start by saying this space is beautiful! My niece and I were greeted upon entering and were given a brief overview of the exhibit. The exhibit itself was rich in color and concept and very unique. There was no admission to see the exhibit but donations are welcome (tip: DONATE!) - donation is not mandatory but I'm a firm believer that arts and culture help expand and enrich our experiences and are also great for conversation. In addition to seeing the feature exhibit, there was a hallway with more art, which lead to another space with another exhibit "Fluid Women" (I think) was the name; this exhibit was captivating also. I had a wonderful experience visiting PPAC and will definitely return! I also recommend if you have an interest in visual arts and are looking for something unique. The space was quiet and it is not large but has a lot to offer.

This place is excellent. I'm an amateur photographer and I have come here for multiple workshops…read morebecause the education, the teachers, and the facilities are excellent. In terms of those workshops you can find them for about $30 on Groupon or LivingSocial and the classes are intimate enough with about seven people or less that you really can get the individual attention that really makes for an excellent experience. In fact you will get that personal attention because the teacher incorporates each student and politely requests that they offer their work for light critique. There are opportunities in every class for you to go outside and practice what you just learned by shooting on the surrounding streets. My only criticism regarding the workshops is that they are not as frequent as I would like as my weekend work schedule conflicts often times with their classes. This next section is about the print center and I've had nothing but a phenomenal experience there. I was completely new to Printing and Keith the master printer who runs the lab made an appointment and sat with me for about an hour to basically guide me through the entire process, give his suggestions, and work Photoshop to get the photos exactly as I want them. He has a profound amount of experience that he draws from and is completely understanding that I am a brand new printer. He even gave me recommendations for where to get my photos framed and was just a brilliant lead in the entire process of printing my photographs. I'll definitely come back and I will recommend it to you because they do have excellent facilities, friendly workers, and a wealth of experience. The actual building itself is quite large and I believe it's shared with some other organizations. Philadelphia photo Arts Center does have a classroom or two and a nice gallery to present whatever work they choose. Getting here is very convenient as I take the subway from Center City and walk about 10 minutes. If you were to drive there's plenty of parking and it does not seem packed the numerous times I've been there.

I found ambler beauty institute many years ago and I have continued to get my hair styled etc here…read morebecause it is a more personal experience fir me and not only am I satisfied but the student or stylist learns more and more with each individual client. They work very hard to please you and enjoy what they are doing at the same time. I have never had any situations which I was unhappy. The teachers especially Luanna is very understanding personable and considerate to both myself and her students. She has compassionate as did Mackenzie today doing my hair for the first time. Very attentive and on spot to what had to be done with Luanne's approval. This is how you learn minute by minute step by step and remembering every client is different. I actually look forward every 6 weeks to my appointment not just to relax but to watch how talented these students are and where they are going after graduation. Best of luck to all. You are truly blesssed. Angela

If I could give a rating below one star I would. I attended school here and completed the esthetics…read moreprogram sometime in june of 2024. I genuinely cannot describe how horrible the school experience was. The only thing I gained from it was some friends. You pay so much to be taught basically the bare minimum to nothing and it's all from videos. I received a text last week asking if i'd like to continue with my enrollment and come in for a tour? I already completed the program over a year ago. I got my certificate and then my license (which I haven't used since because they leave you hanging to find a job by yourself which I was unable to do after months of applying, so I just gave up. Doing services was no longer enjoyable for me and I have no desire to work in that industry anymore thanks to this school) It baffles me that they don't have my group in their system. It's not just me getting this text. It's all of the lovely women I completed the program with. It really shows they still do not have their business under control. The facilities were dirty. There was barely any teachers. They promised so many things that were never covered. Including promising to help us get set up with jobs before we graduated which obviously didn't happen. If you're looking for a beauty school to attend DO NOT GO HERE!

Per the other review of the business I now know I'm not alone with my horrible experience…read more We received a gift card for $125 for the "poster special". We visited the shop over a YEAR ago to discuss the poster special, which was very confusing, not straightforward at all, and left us with more questions than answers. We asked for some price quotes for a framed print to align with the poster special, and she gave us quotes for hundreds of dollars. Once we made it clear that we only wanted to spend the money on the gift card for the "poster special" that was being advertised, radio silence from her. I have reached out to Karen several times in the past year to be told "she's too busy" (we were literally asking for one framed print of my own photo), or to receive no response at all which speaks volumes to how this business is run. We've been trying to get one framed print for a YEAR at this point. Clearly she doesn't mind basically stealing money from our family who paid for the gift card that she has NO intention of honoring. Honestly, you're better off getting your own prints and buying a frame from Michael's because you'll probably get the same quality anyway. Literally 0 stars if I could. I'm so angry that my family's money was totally wasted here and we'll never see it back or get anything for it. Our family was trying to support a small business during the pandemic but didn't realize they were being stolen from. Honestly, I don't know how this business is still open because she's just stealing from people.
