I called five contractors before I found this guy. All others were either way overpriced, not available or just did not have the time of day for us. Rick pick up the phone and was ready to come and give us an estimate at our convenience. We appreciated the honest opinion, estimate and advice that he gave us. We had been trying to remove the popcorn ceiling ourselves and were getting nowhere really fast. Plus our high ceilings were going to be a pain not only to remove but to texture as well. We decided to continue in our own but after a week, we decided to call him back and help us with the removal and texture. The work they did was great. OK, so I hire Acoustic Removed to do 4 bedrooms, remove the popcorn ceiling and paint. Day 1, as promised, popcorn removed and I'm left with a clean place. Of course, being me, I run my hand around and do find some very fine white powdery stuff but really not bad at all. Ran the vacuum and wiped and the rooms are ready to be slept in. Will update this review as the project progresses. Day 1, happy camper, do recommend, and by the way Rick is a nice guy! Day 2, took a break for a day to let things dry and set then onto priming and painting. Again, clean job and no complaints. Rick is a good guy, concerned about the job and is on top of the work. I appreciated the time he took to explain the work and how it is done. My ceiling looks great and my place is transformed! Rick is also very reasonable as many other reviewers claim. Initially I was going to have someone else take care of the wallpaper, but after 6 hours of work, they were only able to remove a foot of wallpaper. Rick took a look and offered some tips for removal, but he did such a great job with the ceiling, I was confident that he could help me with this issue as well and he did. Rick and his team did a great job at scraping my popcorn ceilings and patching almost 20 holes that I had in the ceiling and in the walls from some electrical work I had done prior. You could never tell there was popcorn ceiling there and the patch work was flawless. I even have vaulted ceilings and it only took them about 2 days to scrape, patch everything, sand, smooth, etc and clean. We recently bought a house in Chatsworth that had popcorn ceilings almost everywhere, including in the closets. We really wanted it all removed, but after receiving outrageous bids from 3 different contractors, I'd all but given up hope when I received the quote from Rick. It was less than half (or in the case of one, less than a third) what the other people were quoting me. So I went with Acoustic Removed. Admittedly, though, because they were so much cheaper, I did have doubts as to whether they were going to do a quality job. Luckily, these doubts were completely unfounded. Not only did they do an absolutely beautiful job of removing the popcorn ceiling and replastering, but every single day of the 7 day project, the two guys working on the house were waiting for me before I would even arrive to let them in. It didn't matter if I showed up on time or 15 minutes before their scheduled start time, they were already there each and every single time. While this is how it should be with good contractors, it is unfortunately not the way it often works out. When it came time to remove it, the end product was less than tolerable to the eye (removed by another company), but Rick and Jose came in and made it look outstanding!!! Very reasonably priced, but you get what you pay for. Upfront the manager, Rick, was friendly, got to work, and finished quickly. They did an okay job, but scrapped and missed refinishing a closet. He came out to take a look at what was missed he said he would 'call his guy to come finish it' and then, as if we made him angry, said 'so can I get the check now?' Unfortunately after he got his money he left and no one ever came back and finished the work. Had he not been disrespectful at the end, I probably would have rated the business 3 or 4 stars because it was such a small area inside of a closet we never use. Rick the owner came out to give me an estimate. He was prompt and professional. The work I needed done was total scraping of acoustic ceilings in my 1500 sq. ft. condo, patching and paint. I wanted recessed lighting too so Rick recommended I have that done BEFORE I did my ceilings. That was good advice! The holes in the ceilings and walls it took to wire all of the lighting was extensive and Rick gave me a reasonable quote to repair it all. His team was on time and worked hard until the job was done. This is a messy job, they did a good job of cleaning it up. We had all of our stuff in the home, so extra cleaning was needed, but only from the dust. Totally expected with this type of job. Total job from start to finish 3 days. I would highly recommend Rick he was informative, professional and really cared about the job being done promptly and correctly. What really stands out for me is the great advice Rick Hufford gave me, right from the start. I had just bought a home, and he provided information and suggestions in a completely objective, professional way. It was clear that he knew his business and took pride in giving his customers excellent service. After another contractor had steered me toward getting a more expensive ultra-smooth finish, Rich reiterated some of the reasons I might want to reconsider, even though he was completely willing to provide whatever finish I chose. After giving it more thought, I decided that the orange-peel texture Rick originally had suggested would better suit my home and my budget. In short, he helped me avoid spending a lot of money on something I would NOT have valued in the end! Rick's employee, Jose, did a great job removing the popcorn from the ceilings and applying the texture, and he was super-friendly. (The texture, by the way, is very subtle, and since all the walls in the home already have a similar texture, it made no sense to go for baby's bottom smoothness on the ceilings alone.) Rick also was very helpful in advising me on paint and on some other remodeling issues not directly related to his work. They were by far the most reasonably priced bid I received. I have an 1800 sq. foot home and they were able to scrape, patch, re-texture, prime and paint in a three workday period. They clean up at the end of every day. House looks much better.
