It's been awhile since someone left a review for Rick and his team so I wanted to update the Yelp community that he's still super responsive, helpful and professional! My husband and I recently closed on a 1700+ sq foot home with a very tall vaulted ceiling living room. The acoustic (popcorn) ceiling was very in your face in the hallways and I couldn't wait to remove it. Rick gave us a quote over the phone but also wanted to double check the home to verify $$ before beginning work. He came over the day we closed, and his team was in and working the first day they were able. They were so professional and tidy, scraped the ceiling, primed and painted and we are in love with the results. I am a retired maintenance supervisor and over the years I have dealt with many, many tradespeople and have experience every level of service and expertise. A1 is the real deal. Due to a change in my painting schedule I was in a time squeeze, Rick squeezed me in for the work the next day. I requested some extra work that was not in the original bid, no extra charge. The work was a lot of patching and texture, when the job was done it was impossible to see where the patchwork was done. Hector and Jose were respectfull and did a great job of cleaning up. I called A-1 drywall to get an estimate of the cost to take down popcorn and refinish the ceiling on an apartment, then prime and paint it all. I bought a duplex and I felt the handyman I was using was charging too much. Rick not only talked to me at length about the job, gave me an estimate on the phone, but he actually came out a few hours later and looked at the work, then told me why the handyman's price was reasonable. For one thing we were dealing with plaster and not just drywall. For another he was doing a smooth finish---both of which cost more. I didn't know any of that. Then he explained all about the heat coils in the ceiling and how they were originally installed. We talked for a good hour in total, and when I offered to pay him for his time, he refused. His motto is, just do the right thing and the work comes. I decided to keep my handyman on this job because he was doing a good job, but I should point out that Rick would have charged the same price and he's licensed, and insured and has a crew and overhead. And he gave me his price before I told him what my handyman was charging. That's $6,500 for everything including painting the Walls on a 1,200 sq foot apartment (of which 900 sq feet was popcorn) and he supplies the Dunn Edwards paint. When the next paint job comes up, I will be using his company. Oh, and his parting gift was to give me his card and tell me I could use his phone number to get 25% off any paint I buy at Dunn Edwards, whether I use him or not. read more
