I really like this winery alot - and you will too! I recently attended their spring wine gathering and it was fabulous. There was a $40 fee and it was well worth it (most food and wine events here are much more costly). It was catered by Bistro 29 which is an excellent restaurant in the area. The food was very tasty and plentiful. They served grilled lamb, king salmon, buckwheat crepes, a pea and orzo salad, a pork loin open faced sandwich and some other goodies. They had several wine tasting stations and were serving at least 8 of their wines (I lost count). All of their wines are blends and many are quite unique. My favorite as the Axiom Syrah. But there were other tasty ones too. The owners are friendly and kind, the casual ambience is welcoming and all in all it was a very pleasant day. Spent a morning tasting Acorn wine, worth every minute. The owners sat with us and we chatted for ages. Their passion for making wine is so transparent and they want to tell you everything. Wine was excellent and we chatted about many things that challenge a small winery to stay in business. We bought half a case and we plan to visit in the summer. This is not a big winery, so don't expect a big show, what you get is real life experience and a wine that has been made by good people. read more

Some friends who are members gifted a tasting to us novice wine people. Betsy was a lovely host answering questions, providing information, and sharing their wines. We walked away with a bottle of Rosato and one of their Medley. The grounds are simple and lovely. We hiked up a row to enjoy the view from the shade of an old pine. A hidden gem located near Healdsburg that makes a wide variety of tasty wines. We last visited in 2010 and were happy to reconnect and taste the latest releases during our latest trip to Sonoma. We were happy to see they have continued to produce high quality varietals and they remain a humble, unassuming spot for people who are more interested in wine than the carnival of the bigger wineries. You can't beat Acorn Winery for an educational wine experience straight from the winemakers themselves. We went as a group of 3 couples, the size was perfect for there space. Such a genuine experience- learning about wine, the vineyards and the people themselves, Betsy + Bill. I visited the winery last July 2019 with a group of friends and loved my experience. The wines were superb, the owners are so down-to-earth and engaged with the visitors, and the winery is a hidden gem worth seeking out. We brought our own food -- their wine paired nicely. The vibe was so chill we ended up having an impromptu music jamming session with a ukulele and singalong songs. Just like music, their wine seems to taste sweeter with people, with food, and with warm embrace for life. You need to make an appointment ahead of time -- and you'll be happy for it. Run by by the farmers/owners who live on site, this place has a mom-and-pop store vibe of wineries. Sometimes you just want the completely polished wine tasting experience of the bigger wineries when you want to check out a lot of wineries in a given weekend. But sometimes, after having visited so many big wineries in the past, you just want to feel like you're being embraced by the smaller, slower, and more personal feel of mom-and-pop wineries like Acorn. My husband and I are members now. Acorn is my favorite wine to share when eating and drinking in groups. My way of sharing a piece of hidden gem with people I cherish. A HIDDEN GEM !!! Goodness, where to begin. The wines AND the proprietors were just amazing. Do not be turned off by the fact that you have make an appointment, the private tasting and intimate setting are so so worth it. Betsy and her husband were so welcoming and the wines are just show-stoppers. I figured I'd like one or two.... wrong.... good, better, best, even better than best! Our favorites were the Cab Franc, Dolcetto, Acorn Hill Blend, Sangiovese, and the Zin. It's hard to play favorites with so many amazing choices. I've been here several times before, but have never bought any of their wines. Same goes for this visit. We came here for the "Wine & Food Affair" event last weekend. I love their vineyards - it's really beautiful, and the staff is always welcoming and friendly. They have a nice, walk-through lay-out for these events, and plenty of wines to taste! For this particular event, they were pouring at least 4-5 wines and they also had a nice little appetizer to try. I'm giving this 3 stars because the wines are just okay. I've never bought any wines here, but for some reason, I always end up here due to the great Yelp reviews. I wouldn't say that their wines are terrible by any means, but nothing really stands out for me. Everyone has their own tastes and palates though, so you should definitely stop by and try them out. read more

Boutique Wineries "off the beaten track " are why you want to visit the Russian River region. This friendly , small winery is putting out some pretty promising Zin from the barrel tasting we did over the weekend. The Syrah was also very nice. Incredible winery located an hour outside of Napa, that is definitely worth the drive. The owners Bill and Betsy went above and beyond to make our experience exceptional. They welcomed our young daughters to play and explore their beautiful vineyard, while they thoroughly explained each wine during our private tasting. Truly some of the best wine we have ever tasted. Wonderful winery, I'd been here once before maybe 7 or 8 years ago for winter wineland I think, but came this year for barrel tasting. They're very small production wines and are grown right around the property which is really cool. The Dolcetto is amazing, I remember this wine from last time I was here and it's still great. The zin was surprisingly good too, its not a big fruit and alcohol bomb and is much more subtle. It's very quaffable, easy drinking and nice flavor. Owners are really nice too, very friendly and they really enjoy their craft, I'll be back for sure for more great wine! read more

I think maybe because it was the end of day 2 of he '09 Winter Wineland, but Acorn was a lot of fun. Not only are the people great, but the wine is different and fantastic. Our friends at Quivira recommended this place, and it instantly became one of my favorite wineries. Because of the Wineland weekend, Acorn was packed with white people of every age and tax bracket, and they were all happy. Even the aristocrats who love to travel with sticks up their asses were relaxed and having a good time. They served this masa polenta and mole sauce--that was memorable. They poured all of their current releases and I can say I loved all of them all. Sure, my palate may have been a little insensitive after the amount of tannins it had to process in the previous 2 days, but that's another story. I held myself to buying a bottle of the 2006 Sangiovese, because that may be my favorite varietal and they make a damn good one. I really wanted to buy the Axiom Syrah, but I already went over-budget on my wine purchases leading up to that point. They have a pretty awesome and varied vineyard, I reckon. I saw the aerial map of the place, and they have a couple dozen varietals planted it seems. They have the typical varietals of Bordeaux, Rhone, Tuscany, and California--it's like the greatest hits of hot-weather grapes! This means you can come here and taste something different than they are serving at all the other 12 million wineries in the area. I really like what they're doing here. read more

i like this place because it is set right at the foot of a hill, right in the middle of the winery. very pretty surroundings during barrel tasting weekend they tented an area adjacent to the office. the place is rather small. they had pork with mashed pumpkin, brownies, and cheese with the wine. we were tasting zinfandels mostly which i am not a fan of. read more

Awesome Awesome Awesome. That basically sums up my experience there. The tasting room itself wasn't a fancy barrel room or anything, it was basically in their office, attached to the home, where several dozen cases of wine were being stored so no, if you're looking for a fancy barrel room, don't go here. If, however, you're looking for a VERY pleasant experience with super friendly people, this is your place. Betsy was great. She was very welcoming and enthusiastic. She gave us a run down of their history, talked about each wine/grape as we tasted them, and answered every question we had (and did it well). Generally, we all enjoyed the wines so I picked up a few bottles and my friends did so as well. I managed to encounter a problem with my purchase and Betsy handled it in the best way possible. I purchased 3 bottles and while packing to go home noticed that was given a wrong bottle. I called, left a message and got a call back sooner than i was expecting it. Then, was shipped the correct bottle (and received it) within 3 days, no questions asked. I even offered to ship back the bottle I got by mistake and was told to keep it. Really, I don't think my experience could have been much better. I don't wish that the mistake had happened, but I was very happy to see how well Betsy handled it. Oh, and I don't really mention Bill since he was busy with a buyer so our interaction with him was minimal. Speaking of which, the buyer was there to see if they'd want to buy their zin grapes (I think). She had one sip of their Zin (again, I think) and immediately said "yes, we'll be buying it." read more

We had set up an appointment to come here, not sure what to expect but hoping for the best! And Betsy delivered! Don't cotme expecting glitz and glamour, but come expecting true hospitality and great wine. The appointment lasts for an hour, and as Betsy put it, 'The hour is yours'. This can be spent touring the grounds, tasting wines, chatting...whatever you'd like. We took a stroll through the vineyards, receiving tons of interesting information about the farming process, grafting vines, etc. The wine itself was very nice. We had come mainly to try the cab franc, but we walked away enjoying all the wines we had tasted! We had planned a last minute trip to the Healdsburg area and were less than a mile away when I decided to give this winery a call to see if they had availability. Not sure where I had heard about them, but turns out several of my friends and coworkers have visited them and have had a great time. Betsy was great, she had back to back parties coming in but since we could only make the 12PM slot before heading out to lunch, she was more than happy to accommodate us. We realized how wonderful and small a winery this was when we were driving through the winding dirt path through the grapevines to the tasting room. Pulling up, Betsy came to greet us and we all sat down in the tasting room, which was a large barn shed leading to a house in the back. Great tasting, Betsy was very warm, down to earth, and spoke to just the two of us for about an hour. No charge on the tasting either. Bill, her husband, came in and out - really sweet couple. Great wines as well, we bought a bottle of the Medley and Syrah and signed up for their waiting list. This was probably our favorite tasting experience in that area. Highly recommend! read more

Acorn is a tiny little winery on the Old River Road in Healdsburg, and they make 2,500 cases a year of some really fantastic wine. I bought a bunch of wine from them last time I was in Healdsburg. Recently two factors converged which necessitated another trip to Acorn: 1. my sister was in town 2. my stash of Acorn done dried up good So up to the Russian River Valley we drove, and Acorn was our very first stop. Once again, it did not disappoint. I now have a crush (no pun intended) on their latest Sangiovese, and I have renewed my relationship with the amazing Rosato. If you are looking for a buttery chardonnay, not the place for you. if you are looking for some great wines with people who love what they are doing, who enjoy discussing relative dryness or how long to decant your wines this place is for you. if you want to discuss which red would be the best with your beef, lamb or burgers, this is the place. the wines were reasonably prices, as was their wine club. learned a lot, bought some wine and will be back. read more

LOVE this place! Betsy was awesome! So were Cliff, Chef Jeff, and Joey. They were all so laid back and friendly and unpretentious. The only dent in the afternoon was Francine. Found this winery through a Strong recommendation and absolutely loved it. Standouts were the Sangiovese and Dolcetto. The tour was informative with an obvious love for each varietal's uniqueness. Betsy rocks and so does her winery! My girlfriend's parents first trip to wine country so had to impress with the big guns. And I don't mean the mega-vineyards down the road. Parents are Italian and they love cute boutique wineries so we headed to Acorn. Betsy and her vineyard completely made their trip (and earned me serious brownie points.) Betsy is passionate, cares about what you think, and takes the time to educate you on the grapes. She knows her wine but doesn't come across as pretentious. Oh, and the wine is delicious!
