Hi, I am leaving a mixed review for this place, and here's why. I was in the process of moving so we rented two units here until we got settled. We moved over winter, so when it warmed up I went in to clear it out. There were so many nice turds. Some of my bags and items had been actually chewed through and items are now damaged. The rent was raised several times throughout renting here. One month it was raised I think 10 dollars, then a few months later it was raised another amount etc. this happened for a while. I never complained or asked about a discount or refund because well, I just didn't. I got my stuff out and left. Now - the positives - I will say it's nice to be able to enter at one of the many entrances, they have carts on site to use, it is climate controlled and it is fairly simple to get in and out. Staff is also extremely kind, very nice and helpful. I think it's ok for the situation I had, to just rent for a short time then get out. I couldn't imagine leaving my things in here for an extended period of time. Especially clothes. Yikes. read more

they refuse to set up auto pay, in the hopes that you'll miss the first 5 days of the month in sending your payment, so they can make you pay double the cost of your unit ~ the late fee is literally the same cost as the cost of my unit. And don't ever try to call their "customer service" unless your doctor told you your blood pressure is way to low ~ spending 4 hours trying to have a simple conversation, and get anything resolved WILL NOT HAPPEN. read more

*After reading the last posted review, I understand the nature of the big change in business. * ** Do not rent here * rent somewhere else * your exes garage would be a better choice with less drama ** What seemed like a good idea (and I had limited options to store my belongings) has turned from a secure situation into something that reminds me of a toxic relationship. I had rented for them (Mpls location) for quite a long time due to some circumstances beyond my control. There is a yearly increase in rent (25-30%). I moved away from the Twin Cities more than a year ago, and I had been making trips when I could, just dealing with the rent increases and fees if you are late. I got a letter in the mail dated Oct 26th that told me this was their 30 day notice that the rent would increase again on Dec 1st. It was postmarked for October 31st, so it arrived a couple days later. There is no way I'm dealing with another rent increase and I don't have time in November to move my stuff. So with 3 days to handle this, I took a day off from work, and made my trips back to Minneapolis to clear my stuff out. Why would I want to pay another month's rent to just have it jacked up yet again? Your keyless access is logged every time you enter to place and leave through the gate and their video cameras record everything. They want everything cleared out and clean when you leave, however, they do not have garbage cans or trash bins let alone a broom to sweep. For me to do that would have been another day lost and all for some empty boxes. I put the lock I purchased in my pocket and left. I emailed my intentions and my stuff was out before midnight on the fourth. I work on Sundays, so I'm not going back for another very long round trip. I got an email from the manager, so I called her. The manager had the nerve to tell me she was doing me a favor by giving me the next 2-3 hours to clear out the empty boxes I left and that I better get it done. Well bless her heart for trying to be a tough guy with her strong words; I told her it would take longer than that for me to drive there. She could figure it out and my deposit should cover it. (I don't recall ever having rented without having to drop a deposit so there's that too). Also, the amount of fees over the last year (my paychecks didn't always line up with their due date and they were not my only bill) was ridiculous but I'm sure they can cover the cost of dragging a few empty cardboard file boxes out to their dumpster. Somehow, I think I gave them a better courtesy in letting them know what I'm doing than they gave me. And if not, hey - we can agree to disagree. I'm tired and sick of this kind of business tactic. This is the second time I have dealt with them and the first wasn't terrible, but they have changed and I won't do business with them again. I would not recommend them to someone I don't like either. Even my frenemies deserve better. They are not logical or honest in their dealings, and remind me a lot of predatory landlords and lenders. Do not do business unless you want a lot of hassle and double speak in your life. They are not there to take care of you or your stuff - only to collect money and/or your stuff for their auction house. read more

I visited this location to rent a Cargo Van and customer service was not good! The woman at the cash register was very rude and unpleasant! When I arrived at the store she didn't smile one time and her tone of voice was unfriendly. When I dropped the Cargo Van off there was a small empty paper bag left in the back of it. She made a point to tell me, "Make sure to clean out the back of the truck because I could have charged you"! As she walks back inside the store holding the empty bag above her head. It wasn't the comment it was how she said it, very cold and mean! I'll never come back to this location again. read more

Worst storage I've ever rented from.Would not refer anyone..They only have three moving equipment out of the whole storage..No trash cans...Been renting from them for four years..They don't value their customers only money...They are money hungry...I got behind on my storage and had payment a month prior into getting into auction status and was told they couldn't except any kind of payment but cash..So by that time extra fees occurred..There are so many fees..They don't try and set up a payment plan..They are very inconsiderate of their customers..Would never rent from them again read more

I've been paying for my storage for years. Now I can't even get into my storage because it's frozen shut. The people that work here tried to give me a ice chopper to chop it myself. That's not what I pay for. If I damage the locker then I will be charged for damage. No one was on sight to fix this. read more

I have been renting from Acorn since 2007. The first 12 or 13 years were awesome. Then the company was sold. I sincerely and seriously caution ANYONE thinking of renting a space from the 2023 version of Acorn Mini Storage to strongly consider other options. Price increases were rare in the first decade, now they are twice annual...and hefty. They also now require you to carry insurance on your rental space, or they'll charge you confiscatory fees from their Guido-like insurance. Used to be 24 hour access...now it is not. If you work early, plan accordingly. Not convenient. The new owners are either the greediest people I've ever had the misfortune to accidently encounter, or they're absolutely the poorest business minds in Minnesota, as 'increased costs' on minimally upkept properties is their constant excuse. I don't know the new owners...but they are not the type of folks with whom you want to enter into a contract/lease agreement. read more

We reserved a storage unit at Acorn 2 days before Memorial Day. The rental trucks were all reserved, but we arranged to have a rental truck at move-out. This seemed fine. We didn't get the key because billing is on the anniversary when you sign up, and we wanted to get the end of the month for the end of the summer. We were given a code to get in, that didn't work, so we tailgated our rental truck in. As a few rental trucks were there, we assumed it was open. It was Sunday at noon, and the online hours said they would be open until at least 2pm. Apparently the entire site took the day off. This wouldn't have been a problem but we had entire apartment in a rental truck..outside the unit, that we tailgated in. (Both rental trucks that are offered gratis were parked there.) So...we were stuck inside, with a code that didn't work and wanted to give them our money. We really wanted to. We had to go somewhere else. Sadly. read more

I just left Acorn at 2547 5th St NE, Minneapolis, MN 55418. I've used it for a couple of years, now, slowly working on my house one area at a time. My 2nd floor unit was clean, accessible, secure. The person who showed me the unit asked what I'd be storing, and when she heard I had multiple boxes of books, she advised me to store them off the concrete, and that is exactly right (hint: I'm a librarian. Books, even in boxes, should never be stored flat on concrete, even on the second floor.) I recommend this location. read more

Be aware. I rented a space for three months and had over 500 dollars worth of my belongings destroyed by rats. It was disgusting.. Made a complaint and they totally forgot ignored me. I even showed one of the people there and called the main office.. Run run run. Do not rent there read more

Employees are very helpful and personable. The place is clean and secure. I have no worries when storing here.

I moved out from MN to MA. I have been using their services since Sep. 2011. I provided my CC so I would be billed every month. Since I decided to have my cargo at this place, it has been a nightmare. First, they lost my information and I received the warning letter by mail; now in MA. They never set up the information and offered me the opportunity to send my information by mail (no fax, no email, no digital information) so I can set up the recurrent payment; for me again. Due to work, I travel and I have lost my CC twice. I have canceled and ordered a new one. Their system does not send you an alert regarding payment. YES, I should pay my own bills, but Should my life spin around a $100 bill a month? Oh boy, do your research and safe yourself a headache. read more

I rented a U-Haul truck from here at the last minute over a weekend. This was the closest place to me that had a truck available and I made reservations online. Renting was a breeze, the truck was clean and available at a great price. read more

Had rented a single outside unit from them since Sept of 2012. We went in and got an indoor unit on Sept. 06. We went over to our unit today to clean out the indoor unit and found we were locked out. Today is Oct. 06, 30 days exactly from when we rented th.e unit. Apparently we have not been in to pay our bill on the 1st of Sept for our outside unit and because we are 5 days late we are now locked out This rolls over to our other unit as well. Regardless how much time we paid for our other belongings to be held and available to us for. They are now forcing us to pay for an additional month of rent as well as a late fee when we were not even late stating that our new unit is now due when our unit is due. Was told this was in there policy. Called and asked to have a manager call me back and left my address to have this policy mailed to me. Manager has still not called. I am calling again tomorrow... I will be informing the Better Business Bureau if this does not get resolved. read more

I have had storage units off & on here for years. The reason l am giving it 5 stars is the lady in the office . the manager Jackie. Never have l seen her crabby or short with a customer. When l see her in the office or out on the grounds she says Hello and is very personable. And if your a coffee drinker she has the best flavored coffee & creamers always stocked. Thanks Jackie! I needed to find a storage unit for my stuff in about a week. The staff here was and continues to be very friendly and helpful. I wanted to make sure I felt the complex was safe and clean and that it was. Also enjoy the easy automatic payments. I have also used the UHaul to help with a small move, it was great to have the truck at the storage unit for easy loading and delivery. Would recommend this location to any and all. read more

Accorn mini Storage is one of the worst storage company that you can ever use. They are very unjust in fee and rising there prices. You never see a bill which I think is just stupid!!!!! I would like to know what i'm pay each month and when you go on their website it doesn't show you a bill or what you need to pay. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree - somewhat friendly moving in but not great - but then try to get any refund on the portion of that monthly rent when you move out and you will not recieve much and any questions will be answered in a short and curse tone. They will find a way to makeup whatever discount they gave you on the front end... have had better service from others and would not go back. Don't recommend read more

Please save yourself a headache I rented here and received nothing but poor customer service . your rates will increase... every month there's a hidden fee . They inform you to read the "fine print". when you have questions they don't answer the phone especially at the beginning of the month when the payments are due and you have questions regarding your bill. The manager name is Mark and he absolutely the worse . save yourself time and money and go somewhere else. read more

We have been with acorn mini storage for four years due to moving two houses into one. We also had recurring payments never had to think about it. Now my husband gets a call that we are three months past due and no one EVER seems to be around so i can get things squared away. I have tried going to the location three times emailing what else can i do. I would not use the Blaine location. read more

I run a small business and needed a central location to store some supplies. the NE location is a great spot and i always looked forward to seeing the manager Dave there. He was friendly but also very helpful and knowledgeable about changing the code, about payments, there was always coffee and little bits of candy. I moved out of state and he continued to treat me as a valuable customer when some communication had to be done over email. A storage shed is a storage shed, ya know? It did the job but having a good people working behind the desk makes a lasting impression. read more
