What amazing service. I used the contact feature for a quote in Yelp. Within an hour I had a response. I called Peter and he arranged for me to come over. I had a brand new 8" Amici Wusthof Chef knife. It strangely came to me with something like a micro serrated edge...not smooth like a normal Chef's knife. Peter mentioned it might have been defective from the factory. In about 10 minutes he shaved off the serrations and made my beautiful knife sharp as a razor. I highly recommend Acme Sharpening. I live closer to Acme Sharpening (the garage of Peter's house) than to the San Ramon Farmer's Market, so I arranged to bring my knives to his house for sharpening. That also saved the trouble of fighting the traffic and crowds at the market (BTW, Peter said he will not be at the San Ramon Farmer's Market going forward). I brought 18 knives of assorted sizes to be sharpened, and they were done within a couple of hours. Peter called me when they were done, and they were nicely sheathed and wrapped when I picked them up. I paid by credit card. I haven't used other knife sharpening services, so I can't comment on whether the prices were good or not, but the 18 knives cost be a little over $140 (the price per knife varies by the length and type). The knives are very sharp (again, I don't have a benchmark for sharpness, but they're definitely a lot sharper than they were). I would definitely recommend Acme Sharpening to anyone wanting convenient, professional knife sharpening. read more

Depending on what time you go, he may already have orders and will not be able to finish in time so he texts you to let you know when it's ready for pick up at his house. I cannot recommend Peter Woolworth with Acme Sharpening. He is a rude, grumpy man who provided me with the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. I arrived at the farmers market around 9:45 AM and asked him to sharpen 5 knives. He stated it would take approximately 45 minutes and that he would text me upon completion. I waited well over an hour and then checked in with him to see if there was an update. This is where he became extremely rude, stating that he never promised that they would be complete within 45 minutes and that he would text me when they are ready. I kindly asked him if he could just provide a rough estimate of when they would be ready as I have 2 small children with me and that one is potty training. He snapped back at me and said "NO. they will be DONE when they are DONE.". I then calmly asked if I should take my children home and then come back. He then said "YES, that is probably a good idea." and stated "You are WASTING THE world's TIME". He said it twice! Appalled by his statements and the situation as a whole. I then told him that he should not state an estimated time if he cannot meet it. This is when he became belligerent and told me that he will not sharpen my knives. He set them on the counter and told me to "TAKE THEM AND LEAVE". The farmers market is a family oriented environment. This man should be prepared to have basic customer service skills to interact with people and their families. Everyone else at this farmer's market is nice and adept at providing such service. I hope the city of Livermore and organizers of the farmers market take notice and do not allow these types of behaviors from their vendors. I get that people have bad days but this was completely unacceptable. read more

Wish my experience was as glowingly positive as the previous reviews. Visited San Ramon Farmers market to get our chef's knife sharpened. No greeting as I walked up. Was told it would take 5-10 minutes. No problem. As he was finishing up and I was getting ready to pay. I had asked "Any discount on...." he immediately interrupted me and said "No, the price is the price." What I was going to ask was if there was any sort of discount on a full set of knives/bulk pricing. Not offering discounts on bulk/ numerous knives is A-ok and perfectly fine, as a business owner that's his prerogative. However, I was taken aback at how he had communicated it. As I paid, absolutely no thanks for my business. Maybe he was having a bad day, we're all human after all. Knife was sharp, won't be back. Updating my review since Peter thought to respond: I came up to Peter expecting to get a knife sharpened. There was ZERO demand, ZERO expectation, no attitude from me whatsoever. I'm sorry you interpreted a simple question as a demand. I've sharpened one set of knives elsewhere before, have no understanding of what going rates are and out of genuine curiosity, asked simply if there were discounts for multiple number knives being sharpened. Your self-admitted curt response was unwarranted and only validates my review. Your definition of an inaccurate review = one that you don't like. I've brought all my knives and cutting tools to Peter several times and they always come back razor sharp. He is very responsive to calls and inquiries. One time when I brought a pair of garden shears to him he said he remembered sharpening them before and was not happy with how he had done the work so he didn't charge me to re do them. Met Peter today at the San Ramon farmers market and brought him my Wustoff Grand Prix chef knives for sharpening. Not only was the price great, he allowed me to get them late afternoon at his house. The knives were now extremely sharp,and the quality of sharpening was so good, you couldn't tell they were sharpened other than looking closely at edge which was highly polished. I was really hesitant to find a place to sharpen my knives for me. Found Acme on Yelp and I can definitely recommend. I specifically wanted them done on a whetstone and they are definitely sharper than brand new. One thing to note is on the left side of the petty knife, there are very small sand marks. Doesn't affect the knife's performance and it was only noticeable on this side. However this could have been due to the uneven bevel so one sided need more work. Other than that I highly recommend you to get your knife done by Peter. read more

Peter was great. I reached out to him on yelp and heard back very quickly. He told me he was going to be at the San Ramon farmers' market on Saturday and to bring the knives to him over there, which I did. I have a nice set of Henckels knives which were in dire need of sharpening. They were in pretty bad shape, to be honest, and he had them ready and looking like new within about 20 minutes. He has all his fancy, super cool tools with him at the farmers' market, which makes it very convenient. His pricing is extremely reasonable and affordable, and he's just a nice guy too!
