It makes me sad to say that this business was so rude to my elderly mother on the phone this morning, the woman made her CRY! She was lucky it didn't happen in front of me, because this review would not be the last point of follow up I would have appropriately responded with. I am a bride who grew up in this area but relocated out of state after graduating from our beloved UCSC. After 12 years of dating, my fiance and I naturally wanted to come back in order to celebrate our wedding in the one place that will always be home :) With a tight budget, we planned on using silk flowers for everything except the bridal bouquet. I just flew in on Wednesday, only to arrive to the news that our florist is going into surgery and will not be able to make my cascading bridal bouquet. Totally understandable, but OH NO! My mother and I immediately get on our phones to see if any florist in the area would be able to accommodate such a last minute request. I would like to report that every florist we have called, up until Ace's Flowers, was unable to fit us into their schedule; but they were polite, courteous, upfront with their situation and made at least some effort to direct us to another source. That brings me to this morning's phone call to Ace's Flowers. The conversation unfolded as follows: My mom: "Hello! I'm calling to see if you would be able to make a last minute cascading bridal bouquet for my daughter's wedding at the end of the month." Ace's: (annoyed) "We are soooooooooooooooooo very busy, I don't think we have time. But what date do you need it?" Mom: "Oh, I am sorry; I realize it is asking a lot, but our florist had a medical emergency - poor lady. But, my daughter is getting married on May 31st - 2 weeks from today." Ace's: (short and abrasive) "Well, I am just going to have to call you back, because I don't even think we can do this with so little time. We are soooooooooooo busy....(talks to other people in the background)....(sigh)....so......who did you say you were again? I am going to need to call you back." Mom: I'm _____ _____, and that would be great if you could call me back. If you have a pen and a paper, my number is 831........(interpreted by Ace's)" Ace's: (talks into phone, but to someone else in the store) Mom: You know, if it would be more convenient, I could stop in and drop off the plans and pictures of what we are looking for...(interrupted by YELLING Ace's employee) Ace's: "OH NO YOU CAN NOOOOOOOOOT!!!!! DO NOT COME OVER HERE!!! We can not handle anymore distractions in the store!!!!!! (snorts in disdain) I'll call you back." Mom: "Oh.....okay, well thank you......" Ace's: "CLICK!" Highly rated product aside, I have never heard a business yell at a potential customer so loudly on the phone that I could hear it from 10 feet away!!!! In addition, she hung up on my Mom while she was still talking. I WILL NEVER EVER EVER use Ace's Flowers --- or recommend ANYONE, friend or stranger, to patronize services from such a condescending and undeserving business. Shame on you. read more

I've known Amy for many years, as she used to work with my sister. When I needed a flower designer for my wedding, Ace's Flowers was the obvious choice. Not only is Amy extremely personable but she's easily one of the best designers in the Bay Area. Of all my wedding vendors Amy was the most prepared and most flexible. Her can do attitude extended to bringing highly skilled theater techs to help hang up flowers, she also brought an extra ladder and props. She helped repurpose extra items as well. Although some of our floral services are parallel Aces floral shop is now a big hero in recommended retailers we're going to send clients to. We had a last minute request from a bride who wanted full bloom white hydrangeas one hour before her ceremony began. We had four staff members on the phone feverishly calling all agencies "ON A SATURDAY" trying to fill this request. Aces had them in stock and we fulfilled the almost impossible task. I have been meaning to write this review for a few months, but the topic of florists came up this evening and I could not stop talking about Ace's Flowers. I promised myself at that moment that I had to write this review the minute I got hom. I will have to be a tad limited on some details because I was the recipient of a floral arrangement from them and did not interact with Ace's myself. I can, on the other hand, comment distinctly on the arrangement I received... It was stunning. Absolutely stunning. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it was a work of art. I get goosebumps just thinking about it, even now, so many months later. If I had any knowledge of flowers i could describe my gift in those terms but I don't. Instead I can tell you that what I received was colorful and playful. With each turn of the vase there was a jubilant surprise of bloom and texture, hue and shadow. There was nothing lackluster, standard or expected. It was truly extraordinary. So often you hear people say, "But flowers die." This evening someone replied, "Yes, but an amazing arrangement you'll remember forever." And she was right. I will never, ever forget the flowers I received from Ace's. I will always get goosebumps and come close to tears of joy whenever I think of them or speak of them to others. As far as I'm concerned, I can't give any praise greater than that. read more

If you are in need of a florist, BOOK AMY! She is the best! I needed a bouquet and 2 centerpieces for my small wedding. I sent Amy a couple of inspiration photos and we met a couple of weeks before. She immediately got my vision! I wanted a variety of flowers and colors and what she was able to put together was STUNNING. She even found these pink-tipped succulents that made my bouquet even more special. We also were debating on a boutonniere (we didn't want it to look cheesy) and she was able to make a modern, succulent one that we both loved! My mother in law passed away 6 days before our wedding and Amy was able to incorporate her wedding band and engagement ring into my bouquet in the most beautiful and subtle way possible. While we didn't tell her a budget, she was budget conscious in terms of her use of the more expensive flowers and I feel like we got an amazing deal for what we paid for. I am beyond impressed with Amy's creative genius and how easy she is to work with. I hope I have an event in Santa Cruz where I can use her services again. read more

I was in dire need of a prom corsage for a prom the next day. I was calling around different floral businesses and this florist probably should not of answered at all. It rang for a while then a recording came on, I was about to hang up when someone answered. I quickly gave her my info, but then she butted in and said she's helping another customer and for me to hold. I did and waited what seemed a very loooong time, was 10 minutes of waiting. No one came back to let me know what was going on. I was a little desperate that's the only reason why I waited for someone to get back to me. I finally hung up. No help, no sale. There is something really, really special about this shop. It could be all of the unique, interesting, and stunning flowers, berries and branches that make it so special. It could be the AMAZING service that the owner provides. She clearly loves what she does, and takes pride in her arrangements. It could be both. I've always been the kind of person that loves to give and receive flowers- but when this shop opened, I began buying a bouquet for myself quite frequently. I called for a condolence arrangement worried about dying flowers lying around in the wake of sadness and the proprietor suggested a living plant and articulated EXACTLY what I was trying to convey to my friend from far away -- love, love, love. Two "breathtaking" (words of my friend) orchids with other plants and gorgeousness were delivered in the early morning. Price was reasonable, owner so kind and helpful, flowers were perfect. Amy did the flowers for our wedding and they were gorgeous! She's very helpful and easy to work with. I don't live in the area so aside from our initial meeting everything was done over the phone and email. Her prices are so reasonable for the quality. We ordered my bouquet, 3 bm bouquets, 3 corsages, 6 boutonniers, 16 centerpieces, bud vases for the cake table, cake flowers and rose petals, and it was something like $1400-1500 for EVERYTHING. Just be aware, they are not a full service shop and don't deliver. We picked them up ourselves, but everything was packed nicely and ready to set out. I"ll post pics of the flowers soon! read more

Aces Flowers provided bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and ceremony and reception decorations for my October 2010 wedding. If I could give 6 out of 5 stars for the service we received from Amy, I absolutely would! In our first meeting with Amy, she was friendly, patient and easy to work with. I had a picture of the bouquet I wanted for myself, and from there she helped me to plan all the other floral pieces for the day. She was extremely knowledgeable on the seasonal availability and varieties of flowers that would fit well within "the look" I wanted, and answered all my questions frankly. Her prices were below the estimates I received from two other local floral boutiques and I never once felt like she was trying to pressure me or sell me anything beyond what I was looking for. Amy delivered above and beyond on everything. My bouquet was identical to the picture I provided, and all the other bridal party flowers were even more beautiful than I had hoped for. It rained on the day of the wedding and our outdoor ceremony had to be moved inside at the last minute. Since most of my floral choices were based upon having the outdoor ceremony location, I was panicked that the ceremony decorations I ordered wouldn't be sufficient for decorating the backup ceremony location. With a few extra materials purchased by my bridesmaids only hours before the wedding, Amy brought extra flowers and decorated the new ceremony location on the fly, coming up with creative ways to accommodate the change of location. It was absolutely beautiful! My wedding day was one of the most stressful days of my life, but the wedding flowers were stress free - Amy took care of it all. The morning of my wedding, my little brother went to pick up my bouquet from a DIFFERENT florist. When he brought it back to my parents' house where I was getting ready, I was a bit confused. The bouquet was HOT PINK. It was beautiful, but I am not a hot pink girl, and my wedding was not a hot pink wedding (it was in the middle of winter). There must have been a miscommunication, and my request for burgundy/wine color flowers to match the rest of the wedding (including my bridesmaids' fake flowers) somehow turned into hot pink. I pulled my mom aside and let her know what was going on - that the flowers were beautiful, but not what I asked for. I pointed out some flowers on the counter, which were picked and brought over by my now-husband's parents a few days prior, saying that the bouquet was supposed to be that color. I asked her what she thought we should do, and she said she'd take care of it. ACE'S TO THE RESCUE! Knowing about an awesome floral shop near our house, my mom sent my sister-in-law, the hot pink bouquet, a bridesmaid bouquet, and the two vases of flowers from my now-in-laws, down to ACE'S. I honestly don't know how they did it! But in plenty of time for pictures, my sister-in-law came back with one of the most BEAUTIFUL bouquets I have EVER seen!! The colors and structure matched my bridesmaids' fake bouquets perfectly, but the flowers were completely unique! It was so special to have flowers from my in-laws' garden in my wedding bouquet. And the flowers that Ace's chose to complement them worked perfectly. Now looking through the pictures, although I thought I would have been fine with the accidental hot pink flowers, I know that I would NEVER have been as happy as I am with the flowers from Ace's. They bring me SO much joy. I honestly have no idea how they did such an amazing job in such a short amount of time. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID! Don't wait until the last minute to choose them. Book them way in advance for all of your flower needs! Don't try and save a few dollars by going with someone less reliable. I can't recommend Ace's enough. They really, truly do right by their customers. Please don't put them in the same position I did. Amy at Ace's Flowers did the bouquets and boutonnieres for my late-August Santa Cruz wedding. I was really impressed with her talent, creativity, and desire to listen to me in order to create flower arrangements that I would love. I thought that I was going to have to spend a lot more money at a flower boutique to get the kind of personal attention and quality that I wanted, but Amy was able to do all of those things for very reasonable prices. She really paid attention to out color scheme and the styles and looks that I was hoping for. When my bridesmaids and I saw the flowers on the wedding day, we were really blown away by how fresh, vibrant, and fragrant they were. Every detail was attended to, right down to the beautiful and intricate ribbons tied around the stems, which perfectly matched my bridesmaids' dresses. Amy said that she PERSONALLY shops for the flowers for all of her brides, and this personal attention was really apparent in the beauty of our flowers! Amy was also able to get peonies for my bouquet, which some other flower shops said were impossible to get during that time of year. Additionally, she personally delivered all of the flowers to my wedding venue on a Sunday (even though the shop is usually closed then), and they were waiting in jars of water in my dressing room when I arrived. I also really appreciated how it seemed like Ace's Flowers was one of the only flower shops that wasn't trying to take advantage of brides by overcharging them just because they were having a wedding. Many other places I looked at had a flat rate for a bridal bouquet, regardless if you just wanted like 3 roses tied together with a ribbon. However, I explained to Amy that since I was somewhat petite, I didn't want a huge overwhelming bouquet. She understood that, and made me a bouquet proportional to my size and charged a very reasonable price for it. She also crafted my bouquet into a very flattering "tapered" shape, which helped to show off my dress and the flowers. Overall, I was so in love with my beautiful flowers, and very impressed with the service that I received. My husband also loved the boutonnieres for him and his groomsmen! read more

Amy was absolutely wonderful on the phone - she took her time to tell me what she had freshest in the shop, asked many questions about what my Mom likes in her flowers and was a pleasure to speak to. When the flowers arrived (exactly on time as promised) they were amazing, everything I asked for and so much more. Creatively arranged and full of color and big and beautiful. And, a week later, the flowers still look wonderful! The price was reasonable for regular delivered flowers, but for what we received it was really an amazing value. I was fortunate enough to visit Ace's Flowers looking for a florist who would supply flowers to decorate a cake for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. I had a photo of what I wanted and Amy showed me some garden roses that were perfect. She was careful to give me the prices as some were more expensive than others. I thought they were all lovely and Amy said she would visit her grower on Thursday and I could pick up the FRESH flowers on Friday. I was overwhelmed when I saw her choices, spot on, and she had even found the deep purple anemones that I wanted. On top of that, she had a friend supply the purple berries to complete the look. I couldn't have been happier with Ace's flowers and Amy. What a refreshing change from other shops that said I could come in the end of the week and pick what was left over from their wedding arrangements. Never go anywhere else if you're looking for GREAT service and beautiful, unique flowers. An aside, Gayle's Bakery provided the cake and the floral decoration was as perfect as it gets! read more
