WOW!! Ace is great!!! Ace saved the day after another well known auto service place screwed up our transmission after doing a fluid change. Driving home after service was finished when Truck started to smoke and died in the middle of the street. (High Anxiety!!!) Turns out that the hose was not put back on correctly and lost all the Fluid. Thought for sure the Trans was ruined!!! Truck was towed to ACE on Irving Park and Russ ,the owner, kept us posted on what they had to do. Now my 2011 Jeep drives like new!!!! YEA!!!! Found Russ as a very honest and easy person to talk to. Totally disappointed by the shop's deceiving pricing practice. When I called the shop for a quote on a transmission fluid drain and fill I was quoted $188. At the time of car drop-off I was told that the price was $190 + tax (which should have been only on parts, labor cost should be exempt). However, when I came to pick up my car the invoice stated the final price at $230, which included some additional fees not mentioned over the phone. Additionally, they charge 2.75% surcharge for the card service even for a debit card transaction. When I mentioned that this isn't legal in the US the guy said that he didn't care. My recommendation is to always ask for an out of the door price preferably in writing. read more

We trusted Rich at Ace Transmission and he completely cheated us. We were on the fence regarding whether we should put a new transmission in my 2012 car or cut our losses and invest the $7k in a new car. Rich said that the car seemed to be in good shape and if we weren't having any other issues, his recommendation was to fix it. After we pick up the car, he tells us that the muffler has some holes in it but thinks maybe they can be welded. Upon taking the car to a muffler shop, we're shocked to learn that the crossmember (underneath the car) is completely rusted with several holes. The new shop cannot believe that a reputable transmission shop put a new transmission into this car, as it's unsafe to drive and the engine can fall out at anytime. I reached out to Rich last week via text to allow him the opportunity to respond before posting this review. When I picked up my vehicle at the end of October, I was happy and ready to write a 5 star review. I had no idea we had been swindled. read more

I got a quote $2500 for a used trans from Nick, who claims to be the manager at Ace Transmission. Once I brought my car to the shop the price was raised to around $3700 because apartently Nick just discovered that it was a dual clutch trans, but how did he not know that after doing the research he said he did before originally quoting me the $2500? He didnt get back to me until the next day with the quote! I had 2500 but not 3700, so my car was there for 1 week while I tried to come up with additional funds. I made them fully aware of this over the week and Nick said it was fine. I couldnt come up with the money so I showed up and pulled my car out of there after said week. The crew members there started pushing my car out of the shop and I noticed that they all ignored me when I told them to start the car and put it in reverse since my car drove in reverse just fine despite the trans issues. I didn't think much of it then but after the car was towed back to my residence I noticed right away it didn't start and that the battery was dead. My battery was just fine before I brought it into the shop as I have just purchased a brand new battery in May. I had to wait til the next day to call about this they had just closed. I called the next morning and asked why my battery was dead and Nick told me it was because I left the car at his shop for a week and they left it "on the rack", which apparently kills batteries. We go back and forth, him blaming me for the battery being dead because I left my car at his shop for a week which apparently needed to be on a battery killing rack the entire time. Very confusing. I ask for Nick's boss and he tells me there isn't one. Eventually he hands the phone over to another guy who I met the day prior, and refuses to give me his name. He tells me he wants proof that the battery was bought in May and I told him that he isn't getting proof and I want my car back the way it came into their shop. I told him that Nick already admitted to me that they killed my battery and the guy im talking to DENIES THAT NICK SAID IT! I ask him for his name again and he tells me that I don't need to know his name. I tell him i want to speak to the owner. At this point he puts the phone down, him, Nick and the other guy out in the shop that i met the day prior converse. I hear nothing but insults, how its my fault and that I have too much time on my hands to pursue this, the guy out in the shop referring to me as "that asshole" and eventually Nick, admitting that he heard me tell him to start the car and put it in reverse as they were pushing it out of the shop, saying "that's kinda how he got me" so it's easy to guess that they were completely aware that they killed my battery and tried to hide it by not starting the car in front of me and just ignorning my request. They hung up on me afterwards. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had with a mechanic. In still trying to find out who owns Ace Transmission so they can hear about this. read more

One of the worst experience I had in my life with a mechanic shop and the owner was the problem. In the beginning he wants you to believe that he's a very nice man but he's not especially when he has to rectify his mistakes. He just wash his hands about the problem he caused. A few years ago I went to him with my car which needed a refurbished transmission and judging by his years experience I thought he'd be the best but after he did the transmission job supposed to work great but driving my car after that I was stuck on the road because of the collapse transmission and called him but he told me to drive it to his shop which was too far for the condition of the car and he was so cheap to send his truck driver. After these years and spending thousands of dollars, I'm having issues with the sensors he was sloppy with and the oil pan I paid for the new one, was leaking all these years so I had to pay again for the new one to be installed. Maybe he got some good mechanics now but himself doing these jobs was horrible. Bad experience and wasted so much money. read more

I was referred to this shop by my family. It is family owned and operated. The owners are very knowledgeable, conscientious and trustworthy. It is not easy to find a good shop you can trust. These guys are fantastic! My first experience was for a 2005 Honda Pilot that had the transmission fail after trans. fluid mixed with coolant. The radiator had to be replaced and the trans. had to be rebuilt. The rebuilt transmission continued to work perfectly for the several years that I still owned the vehicle. I have also had a classic Chevy in for brake work and several odds and ends to be repaired including trans. leak. The brakes stopped much smoother and more evenly after Ace completed the work. They went way above and beyond what was expected on the classic car. Definitely a great place to bring your vehicle! Highly recommended. read more

I brought my st10 transmission for an estimate. I was told that they will only take the side cover off to determine what it will cost to fix a minor problem with it. After two hours they called me and say it will be almost $1200 to fix it. I told them it is a huge difference from the estimate I got from the different shop and I want to take it there. They got upset and become very rude. When I came back there they gave me my transmission in the box in pieces!!!, as oposed what they told me when I left it for an estimate. Few days later I got the information from the REAL and honest transmission specialist that they "forgot" to put a few small parts inside the box they gave me back. What they did not forget is to charge me twice for the same invoice. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. The best part is that I paid less than $400 in parts and labor to put it back together along with the cost of the missing parts I didn't get back from Ace transmission. All it needed was one synchro ring, slider and fork. Please keep shopping, these are dishonest people that get upset when you take your business to other place after estimate. There are other shops in the area that won't rip you off and will give a better service. read more

Charged me 1 hour labor to assemble a CV shaft that I brought in myself. And wouldn't install the axle boot retaining clips that I supplied. When I arrived I had a brief chat with an employee at the front counter, and he walked away mid conversation! I walked into the shop to get somebody else's attention and eventually talked to the shop owner Russ. Russ told me I was inpatient. This Ace Transmission in Hanover Park Illinois is the worst auto shop I ever had experienced. Last year 2019 in the fall I took my car to this place also being close to my house but as the owner claim that he's in this business for over 40 years. A few good stars on the reviews are very deceiving, maybe some friends posted them because after I paid thousands of dollars for fixing/repair my car's transmission and stayed in his shop for at least 3 weeks. The first time I drove my car after repair I was terrified when I saw on the dashboard the same signs when the transmission had big problems also my car slowed down and would stop any moment. When I called Ross the owner of the shop he told me to drive it to his shop but were many miles away. He wanted that because he didn't want to pay the towing truck. I had to leave my car there for another week and he told me ''was a code now we know'' but when I had to drive it the heat and A/C wasn't working because Ross doesn't know anything about a car with technology. He's partner is as bad as he is. He also had to replace the oil pan as I had some oil spots on my driveway but after he did that the oil spots were much bigger. I took it back 2 or 3 times again as he put more silicone but the problem is worse and the radio was off and I begged him like with A/C and heat to put them on like they were when I brought my car there but he refused. I insisted over and over until I told his partner that I'll complain to B.B.B. and then his partner agree to put the radio back which the other mechanics did but it took over 1 hour when was a job for a few minutes. Any mechanic would give you back the car with all these things functioning except this place. But my nightmare wasn't over. Now in March 2020 I saw the bad signs on the dashboard and too my car there and left it again for couple of days and they said was a transmission light ? or something like that which obviously wasn't replaced when they did the transmission but next day after that I saw a big gas leak on my driveway which I never had it before and this is a very expensive job. I already spend over $ 10.000 on my Acura TL 2002 which has a great engine, fixing many other things and I assume these people wanted me to stop going back with my car for the 1 year warranty - nobody gives just 1 year but 2 or 3 - so they wanted me to have bigger problems besides the many oil leaks from above which maybe were a little but not so much. When I took my car back Ross's partner said to me '' your car has lots of rust maybe you should've buy a newer car'' so he prepared me for what I was going to see next day. I spent all the money I spent to use it at least for couple of more years - I'm retired and better drive it here and there- but they wanted to make sure I won't go there for fixing what they suppose to. I expressed my dissatisfaction every time I had to bring my car back there again and again for the same job suppose to be done right the first time.
