Brought my sewing machine to be fixed here. I forgot to add my bobbin and foot to it prior to bringing it. They added a ten dollar charge to my repair. They could easily just use their own for the (100.00 repair) but decided to take it upon themselves to charge that fee and for me a self employed designer I did not appreciate. I find that deceptive and even though my machine is repaired I would be more inclined to come here if they were more honest and upfront and understanding.i do not see that as good customer service instead I see it as a sneaky unnecessary charge. read more

I do not recommend taking your machine here for repairs. After I had taken my machine there twice, they wouldn't let me test it in the store before I left. Even if I had tried my zig zag stitch before the 14 days onc, I still wouldn't have taken it back again. The first time I took it home, all of the exact same things were wrong. It seems they charged me over $75 to oil my machine and give it back. Update: I had initially taken 2 machines there and after I wrote the first review, because my #1 machine was still not working, I pulled out the back-up machine to find that it was also not working properly. I only took it in for timing and a tune-up, a very easy fix. I have since taken both machines to another repair shop and they informed me that both machines were a mess and bone dry! Ace made an easy fix so much worse and didn't even grease them! I essentially paid them $175 to mess up 2 machines. They don't have professional repair people working here. I was on the hunt for a particular Juki serger and saw this store had it in stock! Yippee!! I finally had time to stop by and purchase the machine but was told by one of the workers they didn't have it anymore. He tried to offer other machines to me, but I had my heart set on that particular machine. Heartbroken, I wandered the store in search of something similar until another worker came by to assist me and offered to look in the back. He found it!! It was the last one! I bought that machine in a heartbeat! That guy literally made my day! I am a forever customer thanks to that one worker who went out of his way to go look for me! Thank you! I'm so impressed with the service at this shop. I have a huge project I was working on, and first walked into this shop for a presser foot. I was in there for about 20-30 minutes just looking at all the supplies and add ons they have in stock here. The shop seems to be very well organized and had great prices. Then, a couple days later, my machine had a problem. (I have a brother SE400) My needles kept breaking and hitting the plate, so I brought it with me on a Saturday to show the man who I believe is the owner, and he instantly knew what the problem was. He explained that the needle positioning and timing belt had an issue, and it was hitting and damaging my bobbin case, and needed to be repaired. I told him about my project and that it was due the following week, he told me he would have it ready by Tuesday and my total with parts and labor was $75. Today is tuesday, and I called to see if my machine was ready around 10 am, and they said it was! I headed over, and everything went smoothly, they even tested my machine's different patterns for me to make sure, gave me a receipt with a 2 week warranty, and my machine is running so smoothly now! I'm thankful for the fast turnaround, and the customer service I received here. I've even gotten some more supplies while I made my drop off and pick up and I can say that this place is my new go to! I'm excited to keep building my business, and returning here to browse and purchase upgrades. read more

Perfectly fine place to buy sewing supplies, but I don't recommend getting your sewing machine repaired here. I brought in my machine to get the timing fixed. Brought it home, straight stitch worked fine. About a month later, I went to use the zigzag stitch and it didn't work. Actually none of my stitches, other than the straight stitch worked, which was not the case when I brought it in to get the timing fixed. When I brought the machine back a 2nd time to fix the zigzag etc stitches, they charged me a 2nd time for repair, saying that they only have a 2 week warranty and that its my responsibility to fully check their work, and this happens a lot! So basically, they admitted their mechanic doesn't do a thorough job and repair work is at your own risk. Yikes. Not worth it. Plus the street parking there is terrible. read more

I discovered this joint in my search for a grommet setter for a corset-making class. I had looked up and down the fashion district. Thankfully, I had gone to a place where one guy told me to head to 8th and Santee which would be considered off the beaten path for this neighborhood, but only a short walk. Once I got there, it was great. The grommet setters were there and all the accessories one needed whether you were a designer, pattern maker or just plain sewer were there. They also had industrial sewing and home overlock machines. Plus, they had a whole section of zippers and threads which was pretty damn huge. Overall, a very nice surprise. read more

I really was dreading this review cause I was pulling for this place. I bought an industrial Juki single needle supposedly "brand new" from this place.It was in a group that was not out on the market (or not what they were ready to sell yet) as yet. So I ended up paying roughly about $80 less than the cost of a brand new DDL8700 single needle. My machine and this model is basically the same. So obviously I was trying to bargain. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with my machine. Just not with the service. I have been using a home singer and serger singer and the only knowledge I have of operating a juki was in 2004, in a classroom, supervised. I'm not asking to be spoon fed. I just look at buying an industrial machine as an investment, rather than just transaction based. I had to beg for a "copy" of the manual. Anyways, within the same month of purchase, I got stuck with typical thread jam. 1) There is no troubleshoot in the manual. (I would have figured it out via instruction). 2) I live 10 minutes away from this place and they refused to do any service calls. "Sorry ma'am , you have to disconnect the head and bring it in so we can look at it for free" ......The head weighs like a million pounds! And I'm petite. 3) I ended up calling another dealer to come out and fix such a minor thing I could have figured out. And while that person was there, gave me a quick tutorial. Total cost? The same damn $80 bucks I was trying to save -_- read more

This place is awesome. They have overlock tread for daaaaaaays! If you can't find it here it does not exist...seriously. I have purchased thousands of dollars in overlock thread, an industrial 5 thread overlock and and marrow machine. I come to this place at least once a week. Tip: Parking can be a bitch and the LA cops will ticket in a heart beat. I suggest parking at the parking lot on the corner and paying...its only $5 but worth is because the tickets are $85 and meters are hard to come by. read more

When I visit LA, I always hit up the garment district, and this business. There is nothing I hate more than being followed around in a store and being asked every 5 minutes in an impatient tone "Can I help you?" Well, that won't happen here. The people that work there are super nice, and are patient with you, or will leave you alone to browse. Their selection of thread (many colors, woolly nylon and different qualities for your budget), tools and notions is amazing. Their prices are very good too, and they have lots of things you'd never find at a home-sewing store. I bought the best seam-ripper in the world there, a curved razor (never again to a regular seam ripper). Next time I'm in LA I want to buy all kinds of curves and rulers and maybe a rotary cutting mat. God I miss California and the great sewing supplies! read more

So, I went down to Ace's on a hot, nasty day this week with the goal of buying an industrial walking foot, and told the guy I was interested in purchasing one. With a half-hearted nod in the direction of the machine, he lifted his arm part way and pointed at the one they had. At $1200 dollars, I would really like SOME help. I stared at it for awhile, and after about two minutes, the building started shaking. A 5.4 earthquake rattled downtown, and people streamed out of every doorway. I took it as a sign and left the shop. They do have a metric fuckton of hard to find supplies though. I'll totally give them that, and exhaustive walls of notions and parts. read more

I walked through the door and I was in heaven. I was visiting LA to vend, bringing boxes of cut items, threads, both a serger and a single-needle straight stitch sewing machines all the way from Arizona. As I set up to work, I discovered I had forgotten BOTH foot controls! A friend suggested Ace, and after scavenging a parking spot across the street (since I had both machines in the car for testing), I entered the shop. They were quick to wait on me, and knew just what I needed. An OEM for my Juki would be ~$100, but they put together two generic foot controls while I waited -- one for the Juki and one for the Kenmore. We then tested them both, and the machines fired up. I was in and out in less than a half-hour, controlled up for ~ $60 for both. Unbelievably helpful and efficient and complete. While I waited, I looked around -- supplies and threads and notions and every imaginable part, plus machines in the window -- a veritable candy store for me. I saw nickel grommets -- a rarity! I bought a large cone of embroidery thread $3 as I remember -- containing 3X the length of thread on the small cones available here in Tempe. I can't say enough good about the people and the prices there. Helpful, knowledgeable, patient with my stress -- I long for the day I can go back and spend some real time in there!!! read more

Wow! Ace Sewing Machine Company is the best! Great customer service and quality workmanship for $50.00. I got a complete tune up on my 1979 Kenmore sewing machine that belonged to my mom. She gave it to me years ago and I sew with love. I sewed Halloween costumes, dresses, Christmas ornaments on her machine when I was a teenager. I think it was made in 1978. It's metal, not plastic. Now I mostly sew blankets. Now that my machine is in working perfectly, I'm going to sew blankets for those who suffering in homelessness. Thank you, Ace, I'm going to get to work. read more

I always come here for things mainly due to the place being only a block away from where I live. They have many thing you may need. BUT!!!!! Beware! Do not buy anything electronic here. I recently purchased a electric scissors. Out of the box it seemed a bit used but I didn't care as long as it worked. Big mistake! The cordless scissors will not hold a charge. The light that is supposed to turn green will not turn green. So I left it for 12 hours. Then for 24 hours. So the very next week I took it back. They will not exchange it. Instead they have the in house tech have a look. 2 days later it wasn't ready, I went back 3 days later. I was told I hadn't set the equipment in the cradle correctly. I thought it was bullshit but I gave it the benefit of the doubt. It's been sitting on the cradle for 3 hours now still no green. At this point I don't know what to do, the product is a defect. But in their eyes I'm the one that's wrong. All I can do now I think is to let everyone else know not to buy anything electronic or other things expecting to return it. That's just not going to happen. It's like buying something at a swap meet. I'm sure they do business like they do in their country. They will not respect your money or what you may consider a basic reasonable business. Take my word don't let me say "I told you so". I will take this $60 purchase a loss, I will never ever shop here ever again. You should do the same pass it on. read more

My sewing machine quit working and I took it to another repair store. They said that it couldn't be repaired and did I want them to throw it away. I went and picked it up and my daughter took it to ACE sewing machine co. They fixed it in a few days and told me all it needed was oiling and a new belt. I used to live in LA. Being down in the Fabric District quite frequently, purchasing fabric and such I would be in need of supplies for my industrial sewing machines. They have everything from bobbins, thread (industrial spools) marking chalk, presser feet you name it they probably have it for sewing. They specialize in industrial sewing machines and do carry various home sewing machines. The prices are excellent and they do ship you can call or order online like I do now since I no longer live there. Do park in one of he local lots and have fun there are so many small stores that it is actually a chore to find fabrics your first couple of times to the LA Fabric District. This place is awesome. They have everything you need in one place. Plus they have some of the cheapest prices in town. Went to one store and they were selling sewing needles for 6 $ a pack( fashion supplies inc. ) ; came here and they were 2.50$. I've price checked around most of my sewing supplies and they always are the cheapest here. I even bought a pair of gingher scizzors and they weren't the right size. They took them back no problem WITHOUT a receipt and gave me a cash refund for them. After that I'm sold. Not going anywhere else because most sewing places are all sales final but they actually stand behind what they sell and aren't trying to rip people off. Love you ace.
