Jose at the small engine department is the MAN. With a substantial amount of snow in the forecast, we waited until the literal last minute to bring our snowblower that hadn't run in 10+ years online. First visit was to get bowl seals as they had turned to dust. Once we had those installed, we realized that the bowl itself had a pinhole corroded through bottom. Called the store after and got ahold of Jose, who not only had the part in stock but told me to come in and pick it up despite the counter being closed for the day. He really saved the day, can't say enough about the great service. This is my go-to place for small engine, keys, and hardware. If they don't have you you won't find it at a brick and mortar store anywhere else in Hampton Roads. read more

He tried to tell me they didn't carry something without looking it up and when I asked him to look it up he huffed and puffed like a 3 year old. The employees provide excellent service and the store is always organized whenever I go to this Ace Hardware store. I always enjoy my trip to the local store since it brings back great memories of visiting Ace Hardware with my father 50 years ago in New Jersey. One of the main things that I appreciate about this store, is the sales associates will check with you initially to see if you would like assistance. If you do not want help, they are very comfortable with finding other tasks to do while you browse around the store. I usually like to look around for awhile before making a purchase. Called 3 times first two I was on eternal hold. 3rd time a charm? NO. NO NO. People without customers you don't have a business. I was given an extra fuel charge when I rented a U-haul box truck from them. Was told I needed a photograph of the fuel gauge to verify. Was not told this by anybody, even when he asked if I had put in the correct fuel. There are other places to rent U-hauls in the Williamsburg. Please use these other places and not this place. Very bad and disappointed. I will be renting from elsewhere and you should too. read more

I've bought so many cans of paint here, numerous sheets of sandpaper and a ton of other furniture refinishing supplies. You'd expect them to at least be friendly to you and that is just not the case! Not friendly at all. Even had a client spend probably $300 on renting a truck from them to drop off and pick up the furniture. So even after all that money spent by me and giving them new business still not even a hello or smile!! What a shame!! read more

DO NOT USE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. Brought a couple of tools in for tune up and sharpening - they came back filthy and I was told that the service guys don't really like to clean while they have everything apart. For over $100 apiece, I'd be embarrassed to give something back to a customer looking like that. Service Manager David really didn't care when I showed him / said his service guys were "funny about it"... Honestly, I can't tell any work was done and feel totally taken advantage of. I won't be back and strongly recommend you take your tools and money somewhere that values customers. PS: Quick follow up now that I am back home. Neither of the two started up smoothly and idle set too low on both so, even once started and warmed up, they still shut off as soon as hands off. Truly substandard service on both tools. read more

Stopped by Wednesday couldn't get anyone to help me. 3 guys standing around talking in the lawnmower section. Stop by the Help desk where a lady was making a key I think. She walked off. Waited for her to come back. Finally went to the cashier with my items & asked if they sold Plexiglas? She said Yes & was told to go to the help desk & someone would meet me. Heard over the PA help was needed at the desk. After 10 minutes I left. Nice store by the way. read more

Not exactly "the helpful hardware folks" when it comes to trying to sell damaged items. Kim and Crystal should either learn better customer service skills or go work somewhere else. Kim promises a price but when it's cashier time, she got a case of the "well I don't know math" and resorted to using another cashier's phone to try and figure percentages. When she realized that percentage was way below what she could sell it for, the price changed and so did the attitude. Rude doesn't describe. I'll take the big blue or the big orange store any day after this nonsense. read more

Always have what we need, and close to town with easy access. Remodeling a house and having a "go to" place nearby has saved us many hours that otherwise would have been spent driving back and forth to the big guys. We now save the big guys for lumber, but rely on Ace for all our day to day items. Sometimes very busy and we needed to wait a few minutes for an free employee, but when our turn came they always have been very helpful. read more

I get so use to going to the big "Orange" and big "Blue" that I forget how this store has the unusual parts to finish your projects. In addition, they have very knowledgeable sales people to answer your questions and to give you good advice on how to finish your projects (something the the big stores don't have). For example, I had to replace the rollers on my screen door. The big stores didn't have it, but Ace had the exact part. I can't say enough about how knowledgeable and friendly the sales people are. The manager showed a total lack of professionalism. Her demeanor was horrendous and she displayed exactly zero customer service skills. We went there on a Saturday morning and rented a uhaul van to move our college son out of his apartment. Had it not been for the fact that we had to move him that day, we would never have rented the vehicle from this establishment. She should Not be the face of any business that wishes to treat customers with any type of respect. On a different note, Sales Associate, Rich, was her polar opposite. He was quite professional and helpful. Maybe their roles need to be reversed. read more

She then pulled off some register tape and said to my husband, here sweet pea, go do your homework. We left. We'll give Home Depot or Lowe's our business from now on. I visit this place a couple of times a week. As soon as you walk in they ask if they can help you find something and it paid off the last time I walked in. I needed some wasp spray for a large nest in the hold of a boat that I had already emptied 2 cans on. They showed me the shelf they were on and to make things even better they were buy one get one free. Came out to $3.00 per can. Got the spray, took care of the wasp, hooked up the boat and down the road we went! read more
