After a lot of thought and waiting PLENTY of time to give them a chance to leave us satisfied I'm finally going to post my thoughts. We wanted to do a kitchen remodel last summer when the kids we out of school and after almost choosing a different contractor who has a stellar reputation (and price to match) we opted instead to go with Planet Construction (now Ace Kitchens). Vadim (one of the owners) came out, measured and provided some great input on what/how we might do things. The initial crew came out and completed demolition in a day (and left the place spotless). At that point I was elated - they were efficient, clean and friendly. Daniel, their top-notch electrician (contracted) was also great and clearly explained the unplanned upgrades that would be needed both to bring us up to code and also to better suit our needs. We were happy. Then the tile went in...and the grout was not as we had selected...but meh it was close enough and not worth making too much of a fuss over. Then the cabinets...some of them...came in and were installed...but the wall changes weren't as expected so they had to redo THAT...ok, things happen in a project and we were still relatively pleased albeit now on our deadline with school going back in session. Fine. Then came the counter which is STILL not to our satisfaction. First it was mis-installed and looked lousy - they came back and polished and adjusted it. Still not right - the counter guy even admitting that it was mis-cut and just not "fixable" and agreeing in principle that it simply had to be replaced. That was back in August/September. It's February and we're still waiting. The project manager (Jordan) even came out and re-measured....and never came back, never called, never emailed. They're great at pitching for the business, they're good at kicking off a project (and their electrical, demo/tile guys are all really nice and polite and do solid work) and of course their billing folks are on top of their game too...but the project management and overall attention to resolving issues is lousy. We've been patient, accommodating and willing to compromise (see: tile grout, "change order" fees and cancelations / missed appointments) and we even took care of permit issues since we live a block from city hall. We're good customers but we're not suckers. Thankfully we didn't pay for the counter portion of the project - at this point we're at the cut bait and find another supplier stage. Save yourself the headache - find a different contractor and try to hire Daniel (electrician) directly.

I wanted to be fair to this vendor and acknowledge a few additional points and update my original 2-star rating to 4-stars as they ultimately did meet our expectations.
The owner (Vladimir) did contact me to advise that their project manager had suddenly been unable to work and due to that they had to work through a lot of pending projects (including ours). They sent a new counter/granite subcontractor and replaced the counter we were unhappy with back in late March and we're pleased with the (finally) completed project. To my understanding they've re-scaled their operation down significantly to allow for more personal customer management and achievable volume of work. As I noted in my original review they've always been polite and nice and I must respect them for closing things out on a positive note. read more
