Let me be clear: DO NOT. DON'T. UH-UH. Do not buy anything of value at Norfolk's Ace Hardware, There is no customer service, the store does not back what they sell, and to top it off, the manager is snippy & rude. Here's my story: I purchased a $4,000 EGO riding mower from Ace in Norfolk. Deliberately chose Ace instead of big box Lowe's, in case there were problems. Mower is delivered DOA. No power, does not start. I call Ace within 30 days of purchase, and store manager passes the buck: Contact EGO. I was dumbfounded. "Are you telling me you will do nothing for a mower that never worked?" Response: Contact EGO. I said, "Can you please give me a direct link or a phone number for Ace customers?" Response: "EGO.com." I said, "Well, thank you, sir, that is so very helpful." And he hung up the phone! WOW! One more time: If you are buying more than a hammer, do NOT purchase from this store. FAIL on standing by its products, FAIL on customer service, FAIL for having a douchebag manager. read more

This place has been around since I was little. It's located off of Tidewater Drive next to Naas Bakery. There is generous parking & they are adhering to the Covid social distancing guidelines. It's a small store, but it has a lot to offer. We just went there the other day for bulbs, but they have all kinds of other hardware items. They make keys and cut glass too. The staff wasn't overly friendly, but it was 30 mins before closing time. Maybe they were just ready to go home. The store served its purpose for us, so I won't complain. read more

The store manager Lakewood store in Norfolk, VA advised me they do not accept the Ace egift card. Yet, on the Ace website an egift card is sold. So I called an Ace in Virginia Beach and they said they didn't know if they take them or not. Seems to me either its a scam to sell them and not redeem them or corporate needs to bring training up to date or make redemption universal at all stores. Really bad. Tried to rent a lawn de-thatcher and they told me most people can't start it so they needed me to try before they'd let me rent it. I was unable to so I ended up at Home Depot Rental where all went well. While at Ace I spoke with another customer who had rented a paint sprayer from Ace and had to come back because it wouldn't work. The gentleman helping us was rude and cussing under his breath at the machine, and while helping us he looks at the other customers and goes "what do you want?" Not only is this a little hardware store that is close to my home and great for having gardening supplies late in the season for my perpetually late tomato plants, they also have a small rental shop on the other side of the shopping center. The "Office Manager" Naomi is an absolute gem. She is super sweet, and goes above and beyond to do everything she can to get you what you need, in my case, to rent a lawn mower, as affordably, and efficiently as possible. It really is a great little shop, all in all. I'm grateful that it's there for the little things. Beats the heck out of a trip to a big box hardware store for the little things! read more

This store is really easy to drive past and miss. I always see it on my way to Pho Hung which is further down the road. It's a really small store and if you're looking for gardening supplies, they really don't have much in that department. However, they are always hit hard when a hurricane is about to come as they have everything you need to protect your home during this time. People there are extremely friendly and accommodating. Although I live in walking distance of Ace, I was reminded this weekend of why I never go there. Normally I go to Home Depot for everything but I just didn't have the time this weekend so I went to Ace. I walked in and none of the 4 people working greeted me. I look to my left and see the house filters on the left hand wall of the store and head over there. I walk to the left and to the right and back again because I don't see the size I need under the BOGO product. So I walk back to the right and I find the one I need in the Ace brand. I go up front and ask the cashier if she can help me get the one I need. "Oh there's a grabber in aisle 10" and goes back to talking to her coworker on the other side of the store. So I'm trying to grab one without dropping it on my head and the cashier comes over and asks if I found the one I need. I said yes and while I was getting the one I needed, another one fell down and she said "oh yeah if you can put that back please" I just wanted to ask her if I was getting paid to work there but I bit my tongue. I went to check out and there was no "did you find everything you needed" or "is there anything else I can help you with" Just "ok that's $2.19" and "have a nice day" while I was headed out the door. Friendly personable service! You'll pay a little bit more than you would at Walmart or the large hardware stores but you'll get plenty of attention to your needs. Today my boyfriend needed more information regarding the type of line to purchase for the weed whacker and the cashier was very friendly and helpful. She walked us over to the area where the line was located and explained the different types and provided us with the type that we needed. Each time we come here we are greeted with a smile. The attendants are knowledgeable about the products and are always willing to assist. We could've easily gone to Walmart and paid one dollar less for the product that we purchased but we felt the service that we received at Ace was well worth paying a little bit more. read more
