Buyer beware!!!!!! Check your receipts!!! The item I purchased had a price tag, yet when I got to the counter I was charged more. When I asked why the price was different, I was told that the new owner had raised all the prices, just hadn't gotten around to changing the price tags on the shelf. Not sure, but this might be an illegal practice. Meanwhile check you receipts. I made a point to say I should pay the price that was indicated on the tag and was told "No". I could have left without making the purchase but I waited in a long line and I didn't want to drive around looking for the item - wasting gas. read more

This is my local, handy hardware store. I like to support businesses that are owned by people in my community instead of big chain stores. With that being said, in the three or four times that I've shopped here, I have never received friendly service. Sure, they do their job, but that's it. I had some keys made a week ago and none of them worked. No big deal. I went back today and the associate that helped me didn't apologize for the situation, make me feel like a valued customer or even say more than ten words to me. It was just awkward. The associate that had helped someone else interacted with me more than my guy. Like saying hello. I won't mention names, and everyone has bad days. If this was the first time, I'd blow it off. But, I won't continue to go into a store where none of the employees seem to be happy. Sad. read more

Buy local as often as you can. "Our" Ace Hardware in Catalina usually has everything you can find driving another 20/30 min to a big box store, and the prices are the same. Window screens need fixing, they do it there. Need insulation caps for outdoor spigots to prevent freeze ups, need irrigation tubes and stuff, need advice on what works to fit your needs, well "Our" Catalina Ace is the Place for all your hardware needs. This is your neighborhood place! Super friendly employees who really care that you get what you're looking for (couldn't find certain items at Home Depot down the road). Prices are slightly higher than big box, but not outrageously so. You also can get smaller quantities, too. If you're getting keys cut at the back of the store, they'll flip on the owner's neon collection (also for sale). Pretty cool little store! read more

This is a nice store. I was shocked by how much stuff they actually carry in stock. The staff is very helpful and the prices aren't bad. The downside is because they have so many unique and cool items I could easy spend some $$ before I grab the thing that brought me into this place. read more

I have been going to this specific ACE for years, as I try to support local business. Today I went in with a defective propane tank that I had used twice and it was empty. Upon talking to a representative, she then got her "manager" This Lazy individual did not even get up to address me or the situation. I did here him say "What does he want us to do" I went over and, again explained what was going, after paying $60.00 for a new tank. Another Older Gentleman in plain clothes finally addressed me, never apologized, and was very accusatory, and asked if I had left the gas on..... Really?". Then to top it off he told me that he was going to mark the tank, and if it happened again he would not replace, as if somehow I am profiting over $20.00 in gas. This used to be a go to, friendly and helpful, however in the last 5 yrs or so it has gone in the tank. I did not think there was a worse ACE hardware than the one on 1st Avenue, but Congrats Catalina you win! Do not support this business, go to the ACE on La Canada, where they always have stock, helpful folks and do what ACE promises. Certainly the ownership, and so called "Management" needs to learn Customer Service and support of his customers in a small community. Disappointed in their service. We had a broken pipe at the house so rushed there for a repair fitting. We arrived minutes before closing and the doors were locked. There were three employees standing at the cash register and none of them were willing to help. This is the second time we have had disappointing service from this store. They have a good location but my experience is they they are really not a member of the community. read more

I called to check availability of some plumbing parts for an R.O tank installation and was helped by an asst. Mgr. that took a while to verify the two parts but finally did and agreed to have them waiting at the counter. When I got there I found the one part was as I expected (1/4" x 3/8" push/push connector) but the tubing he had with it was not as expected for this type of PUSH x PUSH fitting. It was a softer CLEAR TYGON type material instead of the more rigid colored tubing I'd expected. So, long story short, I pay for them and take home and assemble and pressurize and it blows apart. Reassemble again and verify it's fully inserted and pressurize again and same thing. I called back for over 1/2 hr trying to get through (lunch time?) finally got thru to the same guy and explained the problem and asked him to look for the black 3/8" tubing, which they didn't have, so asked him to order it as I have done with many things there in the past but he first refused then said OK and hung up. I called again and asked for a manager, waited for a while and after going thru it all again was told they would not order a whole roll for my small needs. First off you don't use clear tubing for drinking water unless you don't care if algae grows inside it. read more

We reserved a auto trailer from UHaul online for pickup at this location which is Catalina Hardware on Oracle rd. Upon arrival the shop girl complained that we were interrupting her lunch. She continued to be very rude and disrespectful in her communications. She is apparently the only person at this location who can process a UHaul reservation. Our reservation was at noon. We arrived at 1245. We left with the trailer at 1330. The girl logged us into the UHaul system at 1200! The old man who helped attach the trailer was friendly but unconcerned that one of the tail lights didn't work and that one of the wheel straps was very frayed. The trailer was very old and rusted though the wheels appeared to have sufficient tread and only a small amount of dry rot. We rented the trailer for 4 days. We returned it at 4pm which was 2 1/2 hours later than our actual leaving time 4 days earlier. She same shop girl charged us for an entire additional day. She was again very rude We have spoken to others who have rented from Catalina Hardware and their experiences were similar. We have encouraged them to submit complaints to UHaul as well. This location reflects very badly on UHaul and leaves me with a poor impression of the company. There are other UHaul locations very close by and are worth the extra drive. It's the only hardware store in the Catalina area. So its prices reflect its location. High. Ive shopped there many times, but my last experience will be my last. I bought a hand pump garden sprayer that was defective. I took it back and got a refund. Then I bought another. It too was defective. So, once again I got a refund. Several days later I went back to the store for something else and saw both defective sprayers back on the shelves!! Nothing had been repaired. I subsequently found the first sprayer I bought from Catalina at Home Depot under a different label. It was identical in every way except for the price (and it wasnt defective). Catalina's price was $19.95 and Home Depot listed it at $13.50. Ive decided I'll travel a little farther down the road and buy my hardware at Home Depot. read more

This is actually a hardware store that stocks an amazing amount of technical hardware stuff!! Its small but packed. Love it. Skip the Home Depot and Lowes and come here. We find what we need in half the time with half the hassle. Plus it is nice to give our business to a locally owned and managed store. read more

If so, I have your name written on an ACE Catalina Hardware Store business card as an employee or maybe even the owner!!! On to how BAD your business practices are.. In May 2015 I purchased 2 sets of ACE brand rollers for my screen door, they broke in a week. Tried to return them (WITH) the receipt and was told they would not be accepted because I did not have the packaging...($15.56 In the trash.) Back in December 2014 I purchased an ACE brand utility pump, after 3 uses the cord burned up, brought it back to your store (Catalina Hardware and Supply) WITH the RECIEPT for a simple exchange (and there was one on the shelf at the time) and was told NO. ($63.65 In the trash).............That is until my neighbor told me about the ACE Hardware store on 1st Ave and Tangerine Rd. (NO AFFILIATION with Catalina ACE) I brought the rollers with the receipt, still no packaging, and they gave me a cash refund...for something they did not even sell me !!!! Wow. Yester day I brought in the same burned pump WITH the RECIEPT (clearly with Catalina's info on it) And a gentleman named "KING" not only would issue a refund in full, but offered to ORDER the same pump as a replacement if I'd like !!! (he did not have it on the shelf) It will be there tomorrow !!!! .Note: I've contacted ACE Corporate Headquarters about this and filed a complaint with the BBB. On a much brighter note: Thanks to Tractor Supply Warehouse and knowing about ACE Hardware on 1st and Tangerine...I will never have to set foot in Catalina Hardware...again. read more
