We went into Ace rental 10 minutes before they closed needing a 40' ladder to finish a window job. Todd not only rented us the ladder, but stayed late to allow us to return it because we weren't going to be able to come back to Snohomish tomorrow. So far so good: friendly nuff staff, knowledgeable about their equipment, AND they have been generous with charging (never on time and I've never paid more for it). I rented an​ electric compressor. Got it all the way home to find out you can't use an extension cord. They asked me if I had access to power which I do but not within 3feet of the compressor. In the end I look on the compressor and it says no ext cords. Would have been nice to know that before I rented their equipment. I rent a fair amount of stuff there and it's always been a great experience. Today though was very frustrating that I spent $60 and couldn't even use the tool. When I let them know I was disappointed when I returned it and that I didn't even get to use it, I was still charged full price, no apology no nothing. I have rented from them on a couple occasions and have been really happy. This time I wanted to rent a small skid steer. When I reserved it they asked me if I was hauling it myself and I told them yes I was. They told me I had to have a 3/4 ton truck which I do. When I showed up with my truck and dump trailer I was told they can not allow you to put a skid steer in a dump trailer. The dump trailer is rated for 9000 pounds...and I told them this, but they said it is an insurance issue and that I would have to rent one of their trailers. Sure would have been nice to know this before I wasted over an hour of my time driving in. On top of that the 3 guys behind the counter did not even attempt to say sorry or even acknowledge that it was a big inconvenience for me. I was at Ace in Snohomish 702 2nd St. Returning a stump grinder yesterday. I am a Class A CDL Driver with 34 year experience moving Heavy Equipment. I own 7 trailers of various weights, My personal daily driver is a Lexus SUV which has a factory self leveling system built in witch can not be turned off. I have owned the truck for 20 years and 200,000 miles so as you can imagine I'm Very Familiar with my truck. As you try to unhitch a heavy trailer the truck will Compensate for the load and raise itself up raising up to 12" therefore not allowing you to raise the trailer up enough to get it off of the hitch, I know this Well (not my first rodeo) I left my home in hurry and forgot a tool necessary to unhook trailers from this vehicle when arriving at Ace I asked to borrow a pry bar this would help me get in and out quickly returning their equipment and getting out of their way A young man helping me went in to get a pry bar that I could use, A different person returned no pry bar and instructed me that he would take the trailer off I try to explain the predicament with my vehicle he wasn't having it, Told me I was wrong and didn't know what I was talking about I asked him to please stop because hes going to make the situation worse That I did need a pry bar to remove this trailer from my vehicle He continued to argue with me saying I was Wrong, Again I asked him to stop Finally going in and getting a pry bar that I could use I popped the trailer loose As he continued to argue that I did not know what I was doing with my own vehicle and that he was the expert the entire time giving me back talk. I was a little more than frustrated with this employee I went in to speak to someone in the office telling them of what had just transpired. They told me they would speak to the employee. As went back to my vehicle the same employee was still there talking back to me as if I was an idiot and didn't know my own equipment told me to walk away and leave it alone. I have rented equipment at this location for quite some time, And have never been treated like this before! As the Advertisement says Ace rentals family prides itself on being your Hometown project solution, And Speaks of building a relationship with their customers. What they have built with me is a very just dissatisfied customer. If there was a rating less than one star I would give it to them. I won't rent equipment from these guys again. I have rented stuff from them 4 or 5 times over the last couple of years and each time I walk away feeling ripped off and disrespected. I called up to ask "how much to rent a 60# jackhammer for 4 hours?" Told "$60". When I got there 20 minutes later (2:30 pm Saturday) and started checking the equipment out I am told the deposit is $74. "Oh, the $60 doesn't cover the bits..." What good is a jackhammer without bits?!?! I used the jackhammer for a total of two hours but couldn't return it or call to stop the time like with Sunbelt or anybody else. I dropped it off Monday at 8am and was told I still owed them another $26! I guess since they close at 5pm on Saturday and aren't open Sunday I pay for a full day. All this told to me after standing at the counter for 5 minutes in front of the guy typing on his computer without once making eye contact or saying "I'll be with you in just a moment" or any acknowledgement that I was there. The prices aren't out of line, I just feel nickel and dime and disrespected every time I've gone there. Won't do it again. read more

If you search the 'Net for this place, you'll find reviews on other sites that aren't so good. I hesitated a bit before I rented here, but after calling I felt a little better. Most of the poor reviews are related to renters pushing it to the last minute and then getting pissed because they claim they shut the place down. Anyway, I called first and Dan answered. He was nice and answered my questions about the tool I needed to rent (a tiller) and didn't pressure me or anything. I asked Dan about the reviews I saw on the Internet and he had a response for each one. I went in on a Saturday morning around 9AM. I waited in line for about 5 minutes and was helped. Dan remembered me. They gently persuaded me to go with the 1000lb rear tiller vs. the more manual (and only $10 cheaper for 4 hrs) smaller one. They had actual, compelling reasons for this and were able to explain why I should spend a little more. Someone took me out to show me the larger tool (to make sure it was what I wanted) and then I went back into the office and finalized. Another gentleman met me out at my rig and mounted the trailer up for me and then went through a brief how-to. It was helpful and he let me ask a few questions. The tool worked great (ripped out my dry, dead grass). I brought it back early and they "reduced" the charge from one day to 4 hrs. Note: for a 4hr rental they'll charge you for a full day, then refund the difference back once you return it on time (and in good condition). They also do an inspection of the tool and radio the results in to the front desk, so don't try to pull a fast one on them. I'll rent here again. They have just about anything you can imagine. read more

Ace is a great family owned rental shop. I have used them for flat bed trailers, yard tools, a wood floor nail gun (brand new and worth about $800 so its a must have) and many other smaller items. They are always friendly, reasonable, fair and the equipment is in top shape. Ignore bad reviews from people who dont plan ahead and measure out the job before expecting a free tool rental. read more

After using these guys on 3 recent occasions (block saw and compactor). I'm having a hard time believing the negative reviews. Likely other rental companies secretly bashing them on yelp or from what I'm reading as common issues with customers not understanding or following protocol. Just because these customers are, or have been in construction does not mean they are experts in rental equipment or the liabilities involved in renting the equipment to customers. Anyhow, from the owner to the sales/shop guys they are always friendly and understanding. Unfortunately some people think a red carpet should be rolled out for them when they step in the door to spend money..good luck with that. I've been behind the deadline in returning equipment and sent back equipment that didn't function all the way. They've discounted and extended the grace period on a few occasions. Happy to spend my money with local small business over big box retail. Prices are also comparable. read more

As a small business owner we have rented equipmment from here a lot because they are the only rental company in Snohomish. Today was the last day we will go there. Today we wanted to rent a ditch witch and put it in our own trailer instead of using their trailer. They wouldn't do that because "when the equipment gets put in other peoples trailers it might not be tied down enough and it might scratch the paint". Another example is they would't allow us to rent a trackhoe to dig out a small stump. Herc rentals in Everett has no problem renting us the trackhoe for that and even laughed when we told them about it. Example 3: When we are renturning equipment we may be running late because of traffic. We have called them as we are coming into town by the airport that we are only 5 minutes away. They said too bad if we can't make it to them exactly by 5 pm to return, they won't wait. It's a shame that the owners don't care to work with the local contractors. I have spoke with other contractors in the area and they have the same problem with renting from here. We always try to use local businesses when we are buying materials for our jobs our renting equipment. This is an exception we will make. read more

This is the go to rental shop for me. They seem to have what I need and the rates are reasonable. Super friendly service and are always flexible about picking up and dropping off when it's convenient for me. Big test was when I rented a dump trailer and I broke one of the tailgates off - picture a huge log, backhoe claw fail - metal bending and welds breaking. I was braced for a big bill to fix it - but they charged me about $75 to cover their labor. Great local place! read more

I've been renting here for years because I prefer to shop local even though their service is lacking and prices are high. Will never rent there again!! Reserved a trailer a week in advance. Told one of the guys that worked there where and what I was using it for. Then when I went to pick it up at 4:30 on a Friday I was told "Sorry, we can't rent to you because we have a 50 mile radius limit on our equipment". Totally screwed my plans for the weekend. Maybe if they would do their job and train their employees better I could have found this out when I still had time to make other arrangements. read more

I rented a floor sander to re-do our deck outside and after I got it home, I noticed the cord had an abrasion in it down to the green insulation on the ground wire. Since it was 10 miles back to the store and it was the ground wire, not a hot wire or neutral, I went ahead and used it. When I went to return the sander, I told them that the cord was damaged when I picked it up and the counter guy said they would need to inspect it more thoroughly for more damage. A woman, who I assume was the manager went and looked at it and returned saying the cord was unusable and they would have to charge me for it. Not only did they charge me $60.00 + tax, more than half the rental cost. She gave me the cord , but not until after cutting off one end. She also said the yard man pays extra attention to power cords, which seems hard to believe. My advice is if you rent from these people, inspect the equipment very thoroughly before leaving the store, because obviously, they don't believe their customers. Don't use these guys!!!!!! I have been in the construction industry for over 30 years in western Washington for some of the largest amd well respected commerical contactors in the region. Our business is based on relationships and repeat business. My experience with Ace Equipment Rentals is the complete opposite of this philosophy. I needed a piece of equipment for a day. (Note they were slightly higher than a national rental company). I decided to rent from them because their people sounded knowledgable and I wanted to support a local company. I scheduled for a Saturday afternoon delivery because I needed to use it the next day (I told them this when I ordered it). They said ok no problem. Weather turned bad and I didn't use it unitl the following day (they were closed). I used it for less than 5 hours on Monday. They charged me for 2 days. Over the years I have worked with some of the bigger rental companies as well as the smaller ones. They all were all willing to work with schedules and weather issues (especially in winter). I reached out to them via their website with no response. When I finally got a hold of them, they were jerks and unwilling to discuss the reasonableness of their bill. After talking to a friend who lives in Snohomish, he relayed the same experience. Also, when they picked up the equipment, they ran over some of our planting bed. read more

"Customer is Always Wrong Policy" This is the first negative review I've ever posted about a company. Usually I chalk up bad service to an employee having an off day. It happens. Getting a positive attitude and great customer service is the exception not the rule these days so I honestly don't expect a lot. I have been a small business owner and worked with and for small business owners for 15 years. One of the reasons I like living in Historic Snohomish is because there are lots of small business that offer tremendous service at competitive prices. I went to Ace Equipment Rental to pick up a ladder that seemed to be the right fit for the job. I live 4 city blocks from their rental yard. Upon returning home and trying to set up the ladder for the job at hand, (Hanging Christmas Lights from a Large Evergreen Tree for the kids), I discovered there was no way to reach the top safely. I had the ladder back to the rental yard 20 minutes after I paid for the rental and didn't pick up another one as it was the largest available. I expected to have the gentleman behind the counter offer to reduce the 4 hour rental that couldn't be used for the job. Instead I got: "We're sorry, our policy doesn't allow for anything smaller than the four hour rental." After confirming that he was serious I mentioned that if that were the case I would choose to take my business elsewhere in the future. No discussion. No understanding. No exceptions. It's not a big loss for them. I've spent less than $500 combined with them since I moved here a few years ago but I'll happily drive to Marysville or Everett for my next rental need, wasting gas and time so I can support a business that puts the customer first. It's all about establishing relationships. Take care of your customer today and work with them for a fair result and they'll think positively about you and your store and refer business gladly to all their neighbors. Now every time someone asks me for a tool they don't have handy and I don't own I'll caution them never to go to Snohomish and talk to Ace Equipment Rental. Needless to say if I owned the place the policies would be different. Good luck with your rental needs...go anywhere else. Literally...anywhere. ***Two important notes: 1) The guys working in the yard are great and have presumably nothing to do with the policy in question. 2) There are many businesses locally that have great customer service within a couple of miles of the Rental co. that definitely make every effort to earn your business. I've had multiple great experiences at all of the following: -McDaniel's Do-It Center -Snohomish Bakery -Kelso's Meats -The Repp -H.B. Jaeger -Top Foods -Ace Hardware in Lake Stevens -Ixtapa etc. Typically I would rather support the local guy but I have found that the Home Depot in Snohomish Station is very helpful in ALL departments and has a great Tool Rental dept. as well. Good local rental store, but Why Closed on Sunday?

I have had good experiences and bad experiences with Ace Rentals in Snohomish. Todays bad experience totally derailed my engine rebuild project. The lady behind the counter refused to rent me an engine hoist leveler without renting an engine hoist, even thought they are separate rentals meaning if you rent a hoist, you have to also pay to rent the bridal. I have rented the bridal on several occasions but today, she said no and by doing so she single handedly delayed my project plans by at least two weeks. I have had 5 star experiences with ACE in Snohomish but todays experience earns the lowest rating possible and they loose a long time customer. sigh* this is also my first ever negative review on yelp. read more

Avoid this rental shop. I have rented from them without difficulty in the past. However...Saturday late afternoon I rented an aerator.The mechanic said it was "a little cold blooded" as he loaded it with the choke half on. When I went to use on Sunday it wouldn't stay running for more that 5 minutes (half choke or not). After pull-starting it about 30 times I finally gave up. But here's the kicker: when I returned the machine and told them of my trouble they acted like I was lying. I was, of course insulted and insisted on speaking face-to-face with the manager at which time they offered me a full refund if I never shop there again? It's buyer beware with these people. I am only leaving one star for this company because there is no option for negative 10 stars. My husband has been renting equipment from this company for years and every time he comes back in a horrible mood because customer service is terrible and the staff finds a reason to overcharge for rentals and blame mistakes they make on their customers. My husband complains that he does not understand, being a paying customer that helps Ace to keep their doors open, why he is ALWAYS treated as though he is a huge inconvenience. Today was the cherry on top when he called to inquire about fluid leaking from a type of pressure washer he rented. Our contracting company has a very tight schedule each day and receiving a piece of equipment that has issues is a huge problem. My husband was not informed verbally or in writing that this piece of equipment needs to be stored inside or it could freeze up and cause problems. The individual he spoke with with on the phone was someone my husband thought was a shop technician. This individual threatened my husband and yelled at him that he could end up being liable for the $1800 pressure washer although my husband, may I reiterate, was never informed it must be stored inside. My husband told the individual on the phone he has rented from this company for many years and didn't appreciate being treated so poorly...especially since he is a longtime customer. The individual at Ace stated he could see no proof of many years of rental history on the part of my husband and continued to speak in a condescending, rude, threatening, disrespectful way. I must say it again just because I cannot emphasize it enough...The individual on the phone was extremely rude and when my husband told him it was unacceptable to speak to customers this way the individual said, "I own this God%^@! company." How sad the owner of this company treats his customers with such disrespect. His bad attitude also rubs off on his employees because they are equally as disrespectful and rude. As a fellow small business owner, I would like to teach the owner of this company a very important lesson I have learned over the years. I too used to argue with customers and occasionally tell them off when they made me angry (my way of telling customers off was sweet and kind in comparison to the owner of this company). My husband is the one who taught me the customer is ALWAYS right, even if they are wrong, and it is NEVER okay to argue with a customer...let alone use profanity toward them like the owner of this company did to us. Also, if you keep your attitude positive and show your employees you can resolve issues with customers when they arise, your employees will also have positive attitudes and treat customers with the respect they deserve. Attitude starts at the top in every business, no matter how big or small. This life lesson impacted my attitude toward my customers and helped me to make the most difficult, unpleasant customers into excellent, lifelong, repeat customers. It is NEVER okay to tell your customers off unless the circumstances require it. I assure all of the readers here, in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM did we deserve the kind of treatment we received today. Please reconsider if you plan to rent from Ace. I highly recommend you drive further distances to receive quality customer service from a company that will not treat you as a major inconvenience and overcharge or penalize you for circumstances that are out of your control and not your fault. We are so thoroughly disgusted by the owner of this company we can say without any sadness we are DONE with him and his company...it is too bad the owner is too arrogant, rude, and prideful to care or make our situation right. He will probably laugh when he reads this and continue to treat his customers worse than a piece of poo. His loss though, and eventually what goes around comes around. read more

I have rented airless paint sprayers from a number of rental places over the years. I have never been dinged a 'clean up' fee until now! The machine was returned spotless and spraying nothing but clear water but they charged me $100 extra because "the contract says we can" !! Totally unwarranted - beware. read more

Renting process went great: friendly staff, they had the equipement I needed & helped with extra materials I would need. I returned the machine clean and on time and thought I had had an excellent experience with them. Several days later I had a call from a female employee who told me I had damaged machine (I did not damage anything!) & I would be charged an additional $240.00. She refused to listen to me & was extremely rude, threatening and abusive towards me because I disagreed with her. I will NEVER step foot in this place again & will let my friends, neighbors & co workers know about the treatment I received here. Rented a 18 foot trailer and got it to my house to load a machine and found the trailer had a low tire 19 psi..... was told ready to go and it was not. Another tire on the trailer was flat spotted to where there was no trid left. I think there is room for improvement. When you are trying go make everything happen in a 4 hour window and have to stop to get the trailer safe to go down the road is kinda stupid. I thought that's what your rental fee was for. Told the front desk about the tires and I kinda got the feeling of they do not care what I have to say... I would thought that would cut you a beak on the price since there equipment was messed up but nope. read more

No way I'll ever go there again. Rented a piece of equipment and it didn't work according to the instructions. Took it back and they gave us another and it also didn't work. They said they tested the first piece of equipment after we returned it and it supposedly worked fine so they would not give us another working one, nor a refund, or even a store credit. The folks working in the yard were even kind enough to use their on-site air compressor to inflate one of my tires that was about to go flat! Avoid this place. I rented a aerator over a Sunday. It would die every few minutes. I pulled started that thing dozens of time before I finally gave up. With my lawn only 1/8 complete I returned it Monday morning and told them it performed very poorly. A few hours later they basically implied that I was lying and refuse my refund. I'm an honest guy, so being called a liar was worse than losing a hundred bucks. after a heated discussion with the manager they asked me to never come back. This place is "renter beware". Rip off!!! I rented a tractor for 24 hours and they charged an extra 90 dollars for using it over 8 hours. There's a sign on the wall that clearly states "we rent for time out, not time used". So bottom line is they will screw you any way they can!! I paid 195.00 for tractor (24 hours) + 90.00 + 50.00 (for trailer) + 10.00 (for tie downs) + 20.00 (insurance) + tax!!! That came to just short of 400.00 bucks for a 195.00 rental!!! Don't be fooled by these clowns, go anywhere else and you'll save yourself a lot of frustration and money! read more
