I did not deal with Dr. McIntyre, so this review is not about her. If you want an eye exam only--no glasses or to get a copy of your prescription, you may want to try her. I will not. I think how my situation was handled is unethical. I ended up with three prescriptions, each with different exam dates and expiration dates--all for the same exam.
We were dealing with "Accent on Eyes" during their transition from one location to taking over Dr. McDonald's practice. We had an eye exam by a Dr. who was working for Dr. McDonald and now works with Dr. McIntyre. We paid for the exam and the office was trying to locate a particular frame. When I called to follow up, Dr. McDonald's phone was answered by "Accent on Eyes" and it was explained that they had taken over Dr. McDonald's patients and had all the files. I decided to get a copy of the prescription and get frames elsewhere. The office manager said she would call when I could come pick up the prescription. I don't know if it was because we weren't going to buy glasses, but she never called back.
Repeated calls to her were never returned and if the office manager did answer the phone, she had many, many excuses. Such as, the office was being painted and the smell was too bad to go in the office, or, the file cabinets were faced inward toward each other and the drawers couldn't open and they had to hire someone to move them. Oh--and they had problems with their phone system and that was why calls were never returned.
I understand there could be some delay due to the move but this went on for MONTHS. My son was away at college so we were trying to get this taken care of when he was home on breaks.
Finally, this summer, I spent a day, calling and calling until the office manager eventually picked up the phone. She finally admitted she couldn't find his file and said she would give my son an exam--but not a full exam--so he would have a prescription. The exam would be without charge since they had been unable to find his file. She scheduled an exam for a month later, and two days before his exam she called and cancelled. She had suddenly found my son's file and his prescription.
The prescription had expired, but she said she would just change the date to a year in the future because he was using it for glasses and not contact lenses. I wanted the exam she promised since we had been trying to get this prescription for a year and didn't want to buy glasses with an old prescription. She warned us that she has seen prescriptions change in 4 months and he should have an exam--but we would now have to pay for it. I said after all we had been through, I did not want to do business with them. She e-mailed me the prescription and she had not only changed the expiration date on the exam, she moved the date of his original exam as well. I called and said that I wanted to get a copy of his records and the rest of our family and she said that it would cost me $25.00 for each family member. I told her I wanted a copy of the original prescription, with the original exam/expiration date, and that I planned to send reviews to Yelp and Angie's List. She called back 10 minutes later and was very nice. She said she could understand my frustration and that she would get my son's file and the rest of our family's files and give us a copy at no charge.
When I went into the office to get the files, she took me into the back room and pleaded that I not give a bad review. She said that Dr. McIntyre was a good Dr. and a good person. She probably is. She also said the Dr. McIntyre didn't buy Dr. McDonald's practice, just moved into his location and the only reason they had his files was because he left them and that the new office was just doing everyone "a favor" by accepting his patients. This was not the impression I was given previously. I have no idea what the actual truth is--which is why I decided to go through with this review.
I did wait before submitting this review because my first draft was very harsh. If the office manager had treated us they way she treated me the last two days, instead of the way she had in the previous months and months, this review would be different. However, I have three prescriptions from the office manager. One has the correct exam date and a correct expiration date, one has a correct exam date but fraudulent expiration date, and one has a fraudulent exam date and fraudulent expiration date.
