Chicken Chimichanga
Robert G.

I had the cheese enchiladas and the chicken chimichanga, and both were so good! The food reminded me of the Mexican food I love back on the mainland. So far, Acapulco has been the best Mexican food I've had on the island. I'll definitely be back! Service was great. Very Fast and Tentative. Atmosphere was awesome cool Bartender.

Planning the "expedition" for Mexican grinds in Waipio/Waipahu. When Bruddah Fran C. and Sistah Gail U give a thumbs up to a restaurant, you have to stand up and take notice. I happened to be in the Waipio area, a rarity for me, and decided to see what might be worth taking back home. I had never heard of Acapulco but was in the mood for Mexican grinds and when yelpers Fran and Gail reviews popped up, I knew this was one to try. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. Both spaces are very clean. I ordered two plates to go. Both plates came with rice and beans which were delicious. The gave a nice quantity of food. My meal of choice was the combo chili relleno and a beef enchilada with the red sauce. Both were delicious and did not get drowned out by the sauce and cheese. Excellent balance and taste. With gas prices being what they are, coming here is only going to happen when I'm in the area. But the delicious taste will make me think hard for any excuse to get to Acapulco restaurant when I'm in the mood for Mexican grub.

We were looking for a Mexican restaurant and were following a suggestion by one of our friends. We're glad we did, Acapulco located in the Waipio Shopping Mall is a good spot. Service was great. Very attentive and accommodating. Food was cooked fresh and served nice and Hot. We were pleasantly impressed with the quality of the food and service. My favorite now is their Macho Burrito a large flour tortilla stuffed with beans and rice, your choice of meat, lettuce, and cheese topped off with a wonderful Red Sauce accompanied by Guacamole, Sour Cream, Beans and Rice. Very fresh and delicious . My wife had the Carnitas Tacos filled with an awesome amount of Carnitas topped off with Onions, Tomatoes, & Guacamole. Accompanied with rice and beans. Very good and tasty. My sister in law had the combination plate with a crispy taco and a beef burrito. Simply delicious. They offer inside and outside dining. Take out and delivery available. Live music on Tuesdays. Definitely recommended .

I've been here a couple of times now and the food isn't too bad. Not the best Mexican food on the island but a good stop that's near to me. Food is overall pretty good and the portions are HUGE so you definitely get your money's worth. Both times I came, it was during off hours so it was kind of slow and the service was good. They're located in the same shopping center as the Waipio Foodland so there's lots of parking. They also have indoor and outdoor seating available.

We went for a late lunch, the decorations reminded me of classic Mexican restaurants in California. We immediately got sat down with some chips and salsa and waters. Our servers were so attentive and quick! We got the crispy tacos and a burrito, both were so delicious! I loved the crisp bite of the shell with the soft shredded beef, it was the perfect amount greasy The margarita was fantastic especially if you like mango!

Aside from an occasional visit to Taco Bell I don't get to eat Mexican food except with Doc in San Diego, Tijuana or Arizona. Yelp friends here, Texas and beyond were posting photos of enchiladas, burritos and more with rice and beans smothered in cheese. The other day I placed a phone order here after reading Bruddah Fran's review. He was rrright. I enjoyed my meal for both my lunch and dinner cuz there was enough. Everything was tasty. I really liked the savory, moist shredded chicken in the 2 enchiladas.

finally made it to acapulco! its been on my bookmarks for awhile since it said dogs allowed on yelp. I called to make sure and they said yes! yay! We checked in with a staff member and she sat us outside. its a little bit hot out since it's patio seating, but we're ok with it since we get to have our babies join us! menu is by QR code which is annoying tho and everything is generally really rushed, so it's not the best place to go if you want to catch up with a friend. price point is fair considering how everything is expensive nowadays and portions were huge.

Happy National Burrito Day! I've recently been to Acapulco Restaurant in Waipio and had a perfectly cooked chimichanga and also had a combo plate of enchilada/chili relleno. There's live music here on Tuesdays around 5 pm. They have one of the most amazing tequila selections I've seen on the island and the menu is by QR code. The food was out very quick and we were waited on by all of the staff. There's overflow seating outside and unfortunately just for the men, you need to borrow the restroom key at the bar for an outside facility. Parking was not a issue being at a strip mall with Foodland. Well, isn't a chimichanga just a fried burrito? ‍ #bigboyproblems

Thinking of Mexian food and which market to get my Friday specials I decided to try Acapulco. Foodland is in the same shopping center. I got to kill two birds with one stop. When entering you past some patio seating. The interior is bright and festive. Service was pleasant and fast. I ordered a Burrito and Quisadlla plate with no rice. My wife ordered the mini Quisadlla. The mini plate actually had three Quisadllas. Overall it was about my expectations. Enjoy

Steak Enchilada

Back again at Acapulco! Couldn't decide what to order today. Of course, started with a blended margarita, chips, salsa & guacamole. Excellent choices! Was going with a steak tostada but somehow ended up with a steak enchilada. The steak are very thin slices of beef.

Macho burrito!

Wonderful experience from start to finish. I did a takeout order. They answered the phone quickly and kindly answered all my questions. once I arrived my food was ready and still hot. Wonderful taste & presentation!

Grilled steak and shrimp quesadilla

My son raved about this establishment last week and we decided to go yesterday 21 May 2025. We arrived around 1600 and once we walked in, we were greeted with a friendly hello and told to choose wherever we wanted to sit. We chose the one high round table to seat two that was against the wall. Even before I sat onto the chair, there was the waitress there to give complimentary chips and salsa and asked if we wanted anything to drink. I had brought my own drink and she asked if I wanted a cup of ice and I said "yes please!" There's no menu, there's a QR code that you scan on your phone Here's what we ordered: Starters: Queso dip & Sautéd Garlic Mushrooms Plantillos: Steak and Shrimp quesadillas (note Upgrade to steak-$2.08 and shrimp $3.12) The portions were so generous and worth the price! The food as freaking amazing and I cannot stop raving about their rice!!! The rice was so damn tasty that my mouth is watering right now while typing this review! We will definitely make this our go-to spot that's somewhat close to home!!! Awesome experience! I don't understand why previous reviews say otherwise! My son and I had a really good experience! Servers were prompt, attentive and super sweet!!!

Virgin Pina Colada (This hit the spot on this humid and hot day)

I had an appointment in the area so my friend and I decided to stop for lunch. I told her to just pull in and park and then we could decide where to go since there's multiple places in the Waipio Shopping Center complex. We decided to give Acapulco a try. It's not a huge place. Five or six tables inside and four tables outside. We ended up sitting outside. They brought us a basket of chips and salsa. Salsa was tasty. We had to get the menu by scanning the QR Code at the table. It was not difficult to do. The issue was having old eyes reading a menu on a phone -- kind of sucks. But we ordered just fine. It's been so hot and humid. Someone at another table had a strawberry magarita and that looked so refreshing. I ended up ordering a virgin Pina Colada and it was really yummy and so refreshing. My friend had Carne Asada steak that came with rice and beans and she chose flour tortillas. I ordered the Burritto with shredded beef and that too came with the rice and beans. My friend loved what she ordered. The meat was tender and flavorful. She said that she would order it again. My burritto was delicious. The shredded beef was tender and well seasoned. I loved their beans. I liked the chunky texture which is so much better than having it all smushed. The rice was bit underwhelming but that was not the star on my plate. I would definitely order the burritto again. The only thing that was truly disappointing was that we forgot to order the fried ice cream. We remembered on our way home and we both said OMG the fried ice cream lol We'll be back! My friend gave it a 4 and I gave it a 4 so it's a four! Really great lunch!

6/27/2026 - business still open? Are there new hours? Went around 7 pm, no one there, all lights off. Other businesses in area were open, so wasn't a power outage.

Is chips and salsa includes with takeout order?

We walked in and had to ask if they were open as we weren't immediately greeted. We got to choose our seats and tried to find the coolest spot because it was hot inside! According to the server--their ac was broken. It reminded us of traveling to Mexico and eating at the restaurants there . The decor is very similar and authentic to restaurants in Mexico. They even had lots of the candies found there surrounding their register area. The server was super friendly and attentive once we were seated, I just wish she would've written down our order instead of trying to take it all by memory as she got some things wrong with our order. Now onto the food. Mexican food in Hawaii is nothing to write home about. This was no exception. Our family of 4 ordered: the California Burrito, the super burrito (I actually ordered the chimichanga but it came out as a burrito), Birria tacos, Birria quesadilla, a bean and cheese burrito (the hubby's favorite thing to order at a Mexican restaurant) and because it was taco Tuesday--the carne asada street tacos (which I think the server forgot because we had to remind her) and the flan for dessert. The burritos were of good size and nicely filled. I enjoyed the super burrito but it needed the red sauce that was put on the table. The shrimp inside was very flavorful. My daughter loved her California burrito (it has French fries in it--lol). The birria was delicious--the consommé was pretty bland though. The bean and cheese burrito was cold in the middle and not as generously sized as the other burritos. The best thing that we had was the flan. I love flan and the texture of theirs was amazing. The sauce was a mixed review with the family. I liked it and the fact that there was a lot of it. There was a slight fridge taste but it was still delicious. My husband tried to make a suggestion about moving the large truck that was in front of the restaurant blocking the breeze from coming (remember the broken AC...and this is a hot August afternoon) but upon telling our server he felt dismissed. He was told that the AC was broken and supposedly to be fixed soon, but she didn't acknowledge his suggestion to move the vehicle to let some air in--it's disappointing that when a customer that takes the time to provide genuine feedback to be left feeling dismissed instead of appreciation for the feedback. I feel bad for whomever may have dined after us as it was mighty warm in there...

Sometimes, at this location, the food a great and other times the food is a miss like bad, one time it wasn't even warm, sometimes the burritos are mainly rice but when it's good, it's great. Usually the service is nothing special either, just take my order at the window, I have to remind them about my drink and they just throw my food in a bag assuming I'm taking it to go which I never do. I came here yesterday and there was a young girl working the register, her name is Sakura, and she is amazing! Let me tell you, meeting young people like her gives me hope for the future. She was super friendly, asked if I was eating there or to go, actually brought my food out to me (first time that's EVER happened) was patient with other customers, one uncle was hard of hearing and didn't understand the menu, another guy was in a hurry and a bit rude. She was awesome though, handled every situation with kindness, respect and patience, very polite. She made the visit great and the food was ON POINT! It was so good, like I said when it's good, it's great and it was GREAT! I probably would have given it 4 stars but Sakura's customer service got it an additional star. The sitting area was very clean, it was quiet, nice day for lunch.

Tacos in Pearl City, O'ahu, Hawai'i…read more.. I asked my Saturday foodie group if they were interested in tacos... Sure! I had been to the Kalihi, Kaimuki (now closed), and Pauoa locations. I liked them all - each place had their own charm and uniqueness. I wanted to see how this one in Pearl City Shopping Center compared... Situated between Daiso and Sadie's BBQ Inn, Alejandros is right at the entrance to HouseMart Ben Franklin Crafts. We sat outside because the air-conditioning inside wasn't working. Service at the counter could improve. It seems like the cashier was in training because we ordered and paid for one of each taco, but got three ground beef tacos. I asked which taco was the carnitas... then, they made me two extra tacos with different meats (carnitas and steak). Carnitas (pork) was my favorite... that's why it costed the most! LOL! Overall, it was a fun foodie experience! The shared free parking was a bonus!

So...moments after I finished work, I made a quick dash to the food truck in hopes they were ready to make orders again, and they were ready that time. I haven't ate a California Burrito since Frida's in 2022, and I gotta say, I also haven't had one with Carne Asada beef and chicken. Out of the many times I've had a California Burrito on this island, this might probably be the best one I've enjoyed so far. For $15, this is truly a nice deal. Just the right amount of fries in ratio to the meats, guac, salsa, onions, and cilantro. Most importantly, did a good job listening to what I wanted in terms of order. I ordered mine without sour cream and cheese, which might have changed the experience a bit differently for me. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. For a place that does Mexican food and is right next to Wendy's, they really did a great job. 10/10 Would recommend, but plan carefully since they only open on Saturdays and Tuesdays.
