The owner Mike Williamson, Sr (who I have never met and now works somewhere else) has turned this business over to his 22 year old son, Mike Williamson, Jr. I met with the son almost 3 months ago. The company that referred Competitive Glass to me, told me they had decent experience with the father (owner) and be ware "the son is pretty flakey"...that turns out to be the understatement of the decade. It is my understanding the son is in the process of taking over this business...watch out!!!! Over the course of the next 75+ days, I had to constantly follow up with him only to get a different excuse each time. He lied about my order multiple times. Each communication he had a different story or excuse. Finally I scheduled a glass installation with him last Friday 3/15/24 in Lake Wylie. He was supposed to show up at 8:00A. At 7:30A I contacted him to confirm this appointment only then did he tell me he could not arrive until 9-10. The bottom line, I waited for him until after 11:00a. at that point I fired him. Now he constantly threatens me that he is going to put a lien on my property to pay for the materials that he never showed up to install. If that is the time of experience/risk you desire to take, Competitive Glass might be a good choice. Mike Jr is on the way to run this business into the ground. I wished I would have gone with ANY other firm and now have another professional company lined up to do my doors. I (nor you) should have to experience his total lack of customer service.

However, while I waited and waited for my glass for over 2.5 months, I had to constantly prompt him and he was always slow responding. During that process he lied about that he had my glass. The Co that referred this firm to me and removed him from their "referred providers" because of my experience and others. During the long wait, Mike's story and excuseS continued to evolve. I finally tracked him down and after multiple text messages got him to commit to an install day and time, 8-9A on 3/15/24. On that day, based on my eroding confidence in his lack of professionalism, I texted him to confirm the appointment. He responded that it would be at my house between 9-10 which is 1-2 hours later than he had promised, but it gets better...because he failed, yet again, to have my glass?!?!? I decided to give him a 2nd (probably 10th pass). Well, guess what...he did not show up at 9:00, 10:0) (2 hours late), 10:30 (2.5 hours late) 11:00 (3 hours late). So I FIRED HIM. Now this finally got his attention and he could all of a sudden call me back...but it was too late. But the icing on the cake is that even though he lied AND he did not show up, AND he did not complete the job...all pretty important, don't you think? he is constantly badgering me by text message that he is going to file a "lean" (his words. Get the picture??) on my property. This young man is in way over his head and is on the way of running this business that his father (Mike Williamson, Sr) built. Try to find many reviews, you cannot. My humble opinion, I wished that I had not wasted 3 months of time waiting for this irresponsible, non-reliable company/owner's kid. He has cost me extra time, money and aggravation and life is way to short. AVOID COMPETITIVE GLASS and Mike Williamson, Jr if you want a quality job from honest people.

Accent took responsibility the first time and ordered new glass and their insurance paid for damages- awesome. Same techs came to install new glass but put dirty/heavy tools all over my new vanity. Tools fell-scuff walls and floor damages from corner of glass( nicks,scuffs, and some indentations). Not a big deal at first. I ordered a glass door( they are competitive on prices) for another bathroom. Same techs show up, I told them about the second install damages and asked them to be careful and not place tools on vanity again and put something underneath their tools and glass on the floor. I see the final result, door looks nice but yet they damaged my tiles in the process. They claimed it was already there and I showed them pics the same day of chips/ debris I found while cleaning up after techs. Now accent glass accused me of lying and will not take responsibility for there techs or damages. I will not use them again. I Don't recommend

While I appreciated their history, classic look and the fact that they were still in good shape, it was clear they needed to be updated. I contacted several window companies around town, both local and national establishments. After being put off by some of the high pressure, in person sales tactics other places had, I found the approach that Brian and his team at Zen Windows very refreshing. I also saw that they were voted Best in Charlotte by Charlotte Magazine in 2020, and I wanted to support a local business if I could. Brian was very generous with his time, and it only took a few phone calls with him and a quick visit from his installer to get measurements for them to have all the information they needed. I was impressed with how simple and straightforward the process was. Another huge selling point was that I wouldn't have to pay anything until the job was complete, a big difference from other companies. The turnaround took about three months for the windows to be built, but I would chalk that up to COVID, supply chain issues and increased demand for home projects because of the pandemic rather than anything on Zen's end. Quoted turnaround times at other businesses were similar. Once the windows were ready, Zen sent a simple three man crew to my home to perform the installation. Each gentleman on the crew probably had 30-40 years of window installation themselves, so as a team they were pretty capable. In just two quick morning sessions, my windows were complete! I'm extremely happy with the end result. The windows are fantastic, incredibly easy to use, they look great (black exterior FTW), and I can already tell they perform much better than the old ones. Brian and his team did an outstanding job, and I would recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their windows!
