They take the time to look at you, what you're doing, and help you learn, adjust, and get to know your body more. I'm an unlimited member, but the $25 per class (or whatever it is), is the best way to spend $25 in San Francisco. Not exaggerating. Jess is such an experienced coach. She moves like water. She watches your body, and understands how it works. She makes hands on adjustments. Being in class with her - I truly feel like I'm with a professional-grade artist. Power Barre is a must, for any dancer, any fan of Pilates, or anyone who just wants a lean, toned dancer bod. And Pop Jam is so much fun. I've also taken Jazz Funk with Tashi, which is the BEST way to start a Monday. It's beginner friendly, but you learn technique. She's fun, lively, hilarious. Every single person is beaming when they leave her class. Drenched with Anna is also a pleasure. She's a delight to watch. A true athlete in her flow. It's a real workout! Belly Dance with Andrea was a surprise to me. I had no idea what Belly Dance was until I took this class. As it turns out, Belly Dance is like a mix of Pilates and Booty shaking. I didn't think I could move so precisely, but Andrea is such a good teacher, and so good at explaining the moves - I believe she can teach anyone how to Belly Dance. She has a thorough understanding of the history, the culture, and the artistry. Hip Hop with Mahi - the most energetic ball of fun there is. She's effortless. Drenched with Diamond - another great workout, and a delightful way to spend a Saturday morning. I love to take my girlfriends and get brunch in Union Square afterwards. Also, the Rae Studios Showcase was SO much fun. You get training in how to perform as a group. The adrenaline is intoxicating. There are people who do four per season, is how fun it is. How many opportunities in life are there to perform? Rae Studios makes this accessible to everyone. The world is tough right now. We could all use a little more dance and light in our lives. Check out Rae!

Love Rae studios, long overdue review:…read more Convenient location near Union Square, a short walk from Powell station. You will need to ring the studios for them to buzz you into the building and take the elevator up to the 7th floor. Beware, the elevator can take a hot minute, so get there early! There is usually a receptionist that can help check you in, but you can also self check-in via their tablet in the bigger room. That room also has a dressing room for those that need to change clothing. There is a key for the bathroom. There is a waiting room and cubbies to place your stuff and high end water fountains. I'm glad that Rae studios has partnered with Wellhub/Gympass, This week I took a regular kpop class with Oche for the first time. I have done the performance workshop series with Fran last fall. Both Oche and Fran are great teachers, super energetic, thorough warmups and always checking in if we have questions on the choreography. Also both are super stylish!! Typically, you can see what song is being taught on Rae Studio's Instagram the day before the class. I've also taken several of the free kpop classes at Civic Center with Fran. For the free class, it is on the other side of the outdoor gym. It can get loud during events nearby, but Fran does her best to be loud and clear. As for the performance workshop, it was fun but the day of the performance was quite chaotic. The lights were different than how it was during the rehearsal runs and it was super disappointing when the music cut out. On the bright side, I felt like our group got to know each other well and even held a potluck together! I probably won't do another performance workshop series anytime soon, but will definitely keep coming to the regular and free classes.

There's several class types for all genres (kpop, hip hop, popping, jazz funk, house) - for different levels! So many teachers to choose from, recently I've been taking Jepoy's Beg Hip Hop on Friday nights and they've been so fun! I plan to take others! Each class is $25 unless there's a special guest, and you can book the class online or do a drop in when you're there (They accept Venmo on site!) I typically book day of, but best to book in advance when it comes to special guests. I wish there were class packs of some sort because I would love to come more consistently. Parking is pretty easy on Fri nights, but I can't speak for the other days, as it is located in the city. They also have spring performance workshops, which I plan to do in the future! I'm excited to keep coming back!

The location was easy to find (I did UBER here so I cannot speak about parking). There were a lot of students that also seemed to have dropped off / used ride hailing in order to get here. The front desk was spectacular. So easy to navigate and check-in. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The bathrooms were a little tricky to find, there was definitely a line everytime I went. The main studio space WAS HUGE! So much space to dance and I was pleasantly surprised! The class itself was PACKED but I was able to find my way to the front/middle area! I do follow City Dance on Instagram in order to keep myself updated on instructors and classes offered! I can't wait to come back to try other genres. They have a massive assortment of teachers / instructors! Lots of talent in SF!

I decided to get out of my comfort zone and enroll myself in the Prelude to Pole class. I felt like…read morefor one day, 1.5 hours long, I could handle it. I'm so glad I made that decision, because Addie is awesome!!! She's super nice and really good at teaching! The class I was in had 5 other participants. We first showed proof of vaccination and our ID before filling out the waiver. The lights were dim and the studio itself doesn't have many mirrors. I felt that this promoted confidence because I didn't have to feel self-conscious in the mirror, or worry about how I looked in front of others. Because I'm more cautious, I kept my mask on. I appreciate that there was no pressure to have to take my mask off. Anyway, so we start off with a warmup that focused on flexibility and core strength. Spoiler alert: I lack both, but I did my best! We also learned how to crawl and do some sexy leg work. Then we got to pick a pole and we learned some moves: a spin, how to walk around the pole, and how to uh dance around it? At the end of the class, we learned a routine and had the option of recording ourselves. We even got to try on heels! Uh a little heads up on the heels: your best bet is to size up. I normally wear a 5. The 6 fit me fine, but I might've felt more comfortable wearing a 6.5 or something. I'm really considering taking the 5-6 week series.

I've been coming here for about five years (!) and I love it. There are tons of good things I could…read moresay about it, but I'll try to keep it short and useful. These are my favorite things about this studio: - The classes are very balanced. Besides the actual training for spins or tricks, they include a quite hardcore warmup and stretching that will help you gain the strength you will need later on, and time for dancing in the end. - They get you to freestyle from very early on. Instead of just teaching you cool tricks that you can only do for a photo, they actually put a lot of emphasis in dancing. After just a few weeks of class, you'll feel comfortable dancing and freestyling. The studio is super supportive and encouraging, no matter how you look or how experienced you are, and you won't feel shy or insecure even if you're just starting and can only do a few spins. - The instruction is organized through series, so you'll get to know your class buddies and you will learn step by step, building strength and form for whatever comes next. You will also get a lot of personalized attention, because the instructor will actually know you and spend time with you. I find this particularly useful if you're not the kind of person who is naturally skilled or gets tricks super fast, because you won't arrive or leave a class feeling completely lost, useless, or frustrated. - It's very safe! They don't use crashmats, and that doesn't make it unsafe, but the opposite. The instructors won't let you do stuff unless you're actually ready to do it, they'll spot you until you're confident about it, and eventually you will feel comfortable enough to do it by yourself and incorporate it in your dance. And again, they'll spend time with you to make sure you're doing it right. - The owner, Nikki, is very good at identifying why you're not being able to land a trick, and will give you specific tips to actually do it. Not only that, but she trains her instructors to be aware of the details people find challenging, and address those. If you've ever had the feeling that an instructor was just too good of a dancer and they just couldn't understand why a move is difficult to you, you won't have it here. This probably won't be the right studio for you if you can only drop in every now and then, if you learn very fast and are able to get many tricks right away, or if you just want to learn tricks and don't care about the dancing itself.

My daughter has…read morebeen dancing here for 7+ years and we are incredibly thankful that we enrolled her in this amazing program. It has been transformational on so many levels! 1. PDT is the only program in San Francisco that gives back to the world. Over the past 23 years the Presidio Performing Arts Foundation (PPAF) has facilitated, through dance, the development of empathy for the myriad of international communities residing in the Bay Area and beyond. They provide scholarships to under-served students and offer free public performances and classes for Bay Area residents and visitors. The company also brings their dancers to all corners of the world and performs for numerous humanitarian organizations. 2. Sherene Melania, the Artistic and Executive Director of PPAF, has been appointed as the Ambassador of UNESCO CID West (which is essentially the United Nations of dance). There are 170 countries that hold this title and only 2 branches in the United States. This provides an incredible opportunity to elevate the dancers to the international stage and ensure that performing arts remains a vital part of the Bay Area. 3. Our daughter has been able to perform at prestigious venues all over the Bay Area and beyond. Every year PDT performs Children's Day at the SF War Memorial Opera House which is a free performance for all. They also perform at the Palace of Fine Arts, the Herbst Theater, and other venues throughout the world. To see the costuming alone is worth the price of admission! 4. All of the students are exposed to cultural dance, folk dance and ballet. This has opened our daughter's eyes to new perspectives and cultures. We attribute her connection with PDT to her desire to learn Arabic and travel the world as a youth ambassador. 5. From our daughter's perspective- it is truly a second family to her. After 7+ years she still looks forward to going to dance every day -- it is her favorite activity and has sparked a passion and enthusiasm for dance.

I started PDT at age 8 because all my friends from school were dancing with Sherene, and couldn't wait to go to ballet every day. I arrived at PDT only having done a year or two with Miss Tilly at age 5. Immediately I was pulled in by the folk dancing with its upbeat music and stunning costumes. Once I started doing advanced level folk dance, I had the foundations to really start enjoying the ballet aspect of PDT. Coached by Sherene, I was accepted into the Kirov Academy for the summer which only solidified my love for ballet. I ended up going to what was essentially ballet school for high school, but visited PDT every chance I got. I would never have discovered and delved into my passion for dancing if not for Sherene. She cares deeply about each student while instilling ballet's fundamental aspects of respect and discipline in her kids. What other studio do you know that leads their students to become United Nations certified in ballet and international folk dance? I learned so much about cultures I never would have even heard of and travelled all around the world with PDT. Other kids at other studios simply don't get the experience and life lessons that PDT students get.

On her first day, she reported to me that the jazz teacher (Isabela) did not allow the students to take bathroom breaks. She was also unnecessarily mean and said to one of the students she didn't care that they were tired. I wrote an e-mail addressing my concerns, and for some odd reason this same teacher was extra rude to my daughter the next day. She made my daughter do extra warm up reps although my daughter said her back was hurting from practice the day prior. At some point during class, she grabbed my daughter's arm very harshly. All the students in that class agreed that this teacher was unfair and unkind. My daughter refused to go back to dance camp and we had 2 days left of paid camp. Management refused to reimburse me and made excuses for this type of abusive/unprofessional behavior for this particular teacher. All other staff members were very nice. I can make a bigger deal about this matter by filing a complaint with the BBB or even take them to civil court. But I've decided to write my first review on Yelp just to forewarn other parents.
