We had the misfortune of employing him for removal of an oil tank during the sale of our house recently, after we had moved to a different state. The tank was removed and the next day the city inspector passed it for no further action. To our utter surprise, Teddy Slack turned against us and was threatening to report oil contamination to NJDEP and told us that he took soil sample (which we never approved nor requested) that showed soil contamination. We contacted NJDEP and were horrified to discover that Teddy Slack has quite a reputation there! They told us he was not even authorized to collect soil samples. He was running a shady company called Qualified Tank Services that he had shut down. It had a "F" rating in BBB. Google 'BBB and Teddy Slack' and you will see ratings for Qualified Tank Services. https://www.bbb.org/us/nj/lebanon/profile/oil-tank-removal/qualified-tank-services-0221-90078424 So we employed a different oil tank company to get a "No Further Action Report" from NJDEP. We asked Teddy Slack Jr. for these documents (1) local permit for tank removal (2) Tank content and the tank disposal documents. He ignored our repeated requests even after we paid the agreed amount for the tank removal. This delayed our house closing by more than a month and cost us 1000s of dollars. I came outside to place cones for our school buses and noticed two large Brink Vehicles parked in our bus spots. I asked the man that got out of one of the trucks if he could park elsewhere because this is a school zone and I have buses with children pulling up. He tells me "I'll move up in a couple minutes once the tow truck moves ". Me being COURTEOUS I told him I'll wait a few minutes for the Brinks tow truck to move. Over 20 minutes pass and the worker never returned to move the trucks. By this point it is time for my busses to drop the children off, so I approached the man once again asking him to move his vehicles from the unauthorized school zone (yes there are no parking signs here) . The worker proceeds to stick his middle finger up at me and flip me off and continued to walk to the customer's house. EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL. I told him I'll just have their vehicles towed and called the Hillside PD non emergency number for a tow truck to come . Once I made it know that I'll just have them towed he got back in the truck and moved it to the clients driveway. When he could've done that from the beginning... Their pricing was similar to the competitors, but what set them apart was that they offered unlimited pier depth per section. Other companies had limits--for example, up to 20 feet, then an additional charge per foot after that. I'm glad I went with Groundworks because several of my piers ended up going 90 feet deep across 16 sections. With another company, that could have cost me significantly more. I also had their gutter guard system installed (similar to a French drain, though they claim it's better), along with a vapor barrier and mold treatment. I will say, if you have a serious mold issue, I'd recommend hiring a dedicated mold remediation company instead. I did have an issue with the mold spray, but after calling a couple of times, I was able to speak with a manager who surprisingly took my concerns seriously and resolved the issue. The salesman who came to my house, Randy S., was excellent--very thorough and knowledgeable. He always answered my calls and would text be back in a reasonable timeframe. One thing I didn't like was the same-day discount tactic. They present you with a price, then offer 10% off (or whatever discount they choose) if you sign that day. It puts pressure on you to make a major decision on the spot, which is difficult when you're spending over $50,000. There is a three-day cancellation window, but some people may see the discount as more of a sales tactic than a real benefit. I also want to mention the foreman on the job, Jose G. He was great--he answered all of my questions and even let me watch and learn a little while they were working. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience. Their warranty is transferable, which is a nice bonus, and hopefully I won't have any more issues going forward.
