The bid was within the range we expected and they proposed replacing our gutters which was something we hadn't requested. The gutters were the item that tipped us to choosing this group. We were delighted with the speed with which the job was scheduled. The weather caused a slight delay but they finished quickly and left no mess behind! I liked that we were kept informed on the progress; we regularly received photos and communications especially when sections of the roof were found to be in rough shape. Then someone claimed to be a representative called to talk about "roof work", including replacing all of my skylights. When asking for an estimate, it was refused and the person just kept reiterating the same phrase, "you have an expensive home". That didn't sit well, so I chose to end the conversation and definitely end the relationship. SAD!

They put up tarps to protect the house from damage from the removal of the old roof. They put a huge dumpster in my yard and filled it to the top. They had at least six men plus a supervisor working every day for four days. They cleaned up every day so that two cars were able to park after they left. They were very professional and have a very impressive operation. They also replaced all the gutters. I am considering having them replace the siding. Their price was half of the estimate of another roofer. Highly recommend.

I called a few days later, in the afternoon, to tell him that we are going to sign with him and again he came that night. Materials were delivered the NEXT day and the work done the following. His workers, including himself, were professional and did an excellent job. The clean- up was spotless - even had some kind of a magnetic contraption that looked like a vacuum to pick up any nails. There was a language barrier, but the foreman "Nixon" spoke English and we were able to work with him effectively.

We got quotes from 3 contractors in town (Metuchen), who are all very reputable and excellent…read morechoices: La Porta, ASAP, and Ideal CDR. They all came in around the same amount, but had a lot of different takes on what to do specifically and what kind of choices to make. We liked them all, so none of this is a knock on ASAP or La Porta, as friends of ours have done large projects with them and were very happy. But we felt Al was the best guy for us, so we went with Ideal. This was a pretty big project with a diversity of things to juggle: finishing the basement, building a multi-story addition, demolition, excavation, foundation/masonry, framing, siding, windows, drywall, painting, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, insulation (including spray foam insulation), stonework for porch and walkway and retaining wall, custom cabinet design for multiple rooms incl closets, hot tub crane-lifted to a custom rigging to get it onto a 2nd story balcony, new kitchen appliances and massive exhaust hood, gutters... pretty much everything except the landscaping. The before/after pics in this review don't do it justice. Through all the bajillion decisions and details and tradeoffs and nuances that came up, Al and Sunitha were really terrific to work with and help with deciding on the right course of action for us. This should work well for you if you are good and quick at making decisions. The head of the company, Al, was very easy to get ahold of during the project. We had weekly meetings, but on top of that, he'd often drop by the site (we lived in the house thru the remodel) and was very available to discuss and steer the project. Sunitha's guidance on navigating through the details and complexities of cabinet design and other operational details was fantastic. So, we definitely got very engaged with Al and Sunitha and others during this project and got to know them well. My maximum respect goes out to Al, Sunitha, Julio, Rich, Luis, Chris, Heladio, Andrew, Joe, and many others I'm forgetting to mention, as well as to all the subcontractors, who were numerous. Despite issues that inevitably arise in a project of such complexity, 99.9% of the work was completed within the 5.5 months that all the contractors (not just Ideal) estimated. It took several calls before he finally showed up. He told us he would be able to fix the cracks but he was very busy right now so he will let us know. Several weeks passed and I never heard from him. When I finally was able to reach him again to see if he could give us a date to return to fix the cracks he said he didn't know if he had time to fix the driveway since he was so busy. Sadly I cannot give Amwell Paving & Masonry a good review. While initially I thought this would…read morework out well as the owner, Tommy, quoted me $2500 for the entire two part job. It was a competitive price and honestly the best I'd gotten from checking with three other Masonry Companies. I should have realized something was wrong when Tommy called me two days before the scheduled work to try to come the following day, as he'd had a cancellation. Normally not an issue, but he called me at 9pm at night and I had other things going on the following day. In addition to this, I had to pester Tommy about a formal written estimate, which I finally got in writing via an email. It was a short paragraph that was missing the total for the job, and wasn't on any letterhead or even in a format or on a form. All I had was Tommy's verbal estimate from when he came to see what I needed. On the day the work was to commence, Tommy came with his crew of two other men. While he did an acceptable job on the Asphalt Repaving of my driveway, the cement slab he laid on the side of my house for my garbage cans remains unfinished. He left a crowbar, a dirt mound, the wood planks in place and several other bits and pieces. I had asked him to lay a second slab of concrete because the first one was too little in length. He said, "No problem and that he had to be back next week anyway to finish.". After about three phone calls from me Tommy finally responded and said he'd call me the next day to set something up. When he didn't call, I called him, my fourth call of the week and he said he'd be there the next day in the afternoon to finish. He never showed up. He never called or texted me. I finally sent a text saying we were done and that I could not give him a good review. Last, but by far not least, at about 3:30pm on the day of the job, he approached me about payment. I was going to give him either a credit card or a check which is standard, although some companies let you pay online or bill you. Tommy gave me none of those options; instead he asked for CASH!!! $2500 CASH!!! He said this was because he pays his crew in cash. Honestly I don't want to know he pays his crew in cash, but I was still shocked. I had no prior knowledge from Tommy about this, not in his initial visit or in his email estimate! So, at the end of the day he springs this on me. I had to get in my car at 3:40pm in the afternoon on a Friday and rush to my Bank to withdraw $2500 dollars in cash!!! Poorly done. The communication and professionalism from Tommy was sorely lacking, I felt disrespected and felt like I was treated very discourteously. I was left with an unfinished job and was forced to find another Mason to finish it. I cannot recommend Amwell.
