After the owner of the plumbing company came out and fixed what he needed to quickly and at a very reasonable price the worker from Arid came out to view the final phase of my problem. Patrick (the owner) gave me an appointment for his workers to install a sump pump. The first pictures are of the check valve portion of the project. The second picture is an extension installed by Mazzone to my check valve two feet below my basement floor. The third set of pictures are from the completed job by Arid. The workers from Arid were very polite and worked quickly and very effectively with a great deal of carefulness for my home and living spaces. Other companies had limits--for example, up to 20 feet, then an additional charge per foot after that. I'm glad I went with Groundworks because several of my piers ended up going 90 feet deep across 16 sections. With another company, that could have cost me significantly more. I also had their gutter guard system installed (similar to a French drain, though they claim it's better), along with a vapor barrier and mold treatment. I will say, if you have a serious mold issue, I'd recommend hiring a dedicated mold remediation company instead. I did have an issue with the mold spray, but after calling a couple of times, I was able to speak with a manager who surprisingly took my concerns seriously and resolved the issue. The salesman who came to my house, Randy S., was excellent--very thorough and knowledgeable. He always answered my calls and would text be back in a reasonable timeframe. One thing I didn't like was the same-day discount tactic. They present you with a price, then offer 10% off (or whatever discount they choose) if you sign that day. It puts pressure on you to make a major decision on the spot, which is difficult when you're spending over $50,000. There is a three-day cancellation window, but some people may see the discount as more of a sales tactic than a real benefit. I also want to mention the foreman on the job, Jose G. He was great--he answered all of my questions and even let me watch and learn a little while they were working. Overall, I was very pleased with the experience. Their warranty is transferable, which is a nice bonus, and hopefully I won't have any more issues going forward.

I contacted 2 waterproofing companies, B Altmans being one of them and decided to go with them for their reasonable price and the extent Barry went through to explain to me everything in detail over the phone. He was on vacation and still answered phone calls! From start to finish, he checked in with me, and explained thoroughly the whole process. He even referred me to a public adjuster after we found out this water problem was stemmed from my neighbors broken water pipe! Marco was professional, a very hard worker and always on time! He finished the whole job himself in just a matter of days. Altmans also provides lifetime warranty on their work which is a huge plus. I would totally recommend them to family and friends!!! I realized that water was puddling at the bottom of the basement wall when it rained. The water was also hidden under the concrete. Even when the keyway looked nearly dry, I could feel water, mud and wet rocks under the concrete floor. Days went by and panic began to set in; I wasn't sure who could fix something like this. It would be a huge job to rip up the driveway and fix the water problem from the outside. I needed someone to fix the wall leak and the hole under the slab. It had to be done from the inside. Luckily, I found B. Altman's Waterproofing. I figured I would call and leave a message (it was already late but I wanted to put a call in and get the ball rolling) Surprisingly, the owner answered. He had me send photos of the basement wall, floor etc. Barry analyzed the situation quickly. He realized the wall had a long crack as well. He answered all my questions and described why and how leaks like this occur. He assured me that the problem was very fixable. Two days later, Barry's technician, Marcos arrived promptly at 9am. He spent the entire day fixing the problem. He cleaned out the crack in the wall and added epoxy injections all along the damaged areas. Then he filled in the cracked keyway. Marcos was a true professional, his work was clean and he kept my house neat; even making sure to use a drop cloth everywhere he worked. The job was finished in one day! About a week later Staten Island had what was called the wettest December ever. Floods were everywhere in the tristate area. It was about 2 days worth of nonstops rainfall! Two of my neighbors told me that they had to use a shop vac to dry up the rain that had entered their basements, but my basement was actually dry for once! Thank you B. For starters, the company's trailer broke down on my curb due to a flat tire when the driveway was initailly being replaced. After leaving the trailer there for days, when the company finally sent someone to pick the trailer up, the worker ended up ripping my grass up when trying to move the filled trailer. The worker then dumped the dirt contents from the trailer on the ground in front of my house and left the dirt there for days on end before the company finally sent someone back out to collect and remove the dirt. There is also already grass growing up through the driveway. I have attempted to have the company come back and fix the driveway and have been given every excuse in the book when they have failed to show up to replace their shotty work. I've been told, "the foreman who is on your job is out on family leave", "there's been a death in our crew", "we're first responders and other jobs are more important", "if the person in charge of your driveway can't make it on the day we've scheduled, I promise the boss himself will be out to fix your driveway". I'm still waiting on the driveway to be fixed and now the company is no longer answering their phones and sending my calls straight to voicemail. Avoid at all costs!!

Why a single star? It's because I'm generous. I went with this vendor because we're in the same…read morezip code just 8 minutes apart. I figured a short drive for him would result in a slight savings for me. I asked him for an estimate over the phone but he insisted on coming over?!?!?! So I met up with him and he gets 5 stars for being timely. The estimator began to COMPLAIN to me about the difficulty of the job and the manpower required to complete such a task. He exclaimed a minimum of 2 men are required and it will take all day! REALLY? His estimate to CLEAN the debris from the roof gutters (3 sides) came to $750! REALLY? Honest business here? I then asked him what it would cost to clean my next door neighbor's roof gutters so that I can capitalize of some economies of scale here. The estimator then lowered his price to $450/house. REALLY? To make a long story short, I went with a STATEN ISLAND guy that gave me quote over the phone after sending in my house pic and he quoted me $175/house!!!! Why are manual laborers like this so dishonest? Whatever happened to honest day's work? Whatever happened to one's honesty? So much for religion, diversity, equity and inclusion?!?!?!? I really wanted to like these guys. I hired Plaster Pro to do stucco repair, caulk, and paint the…read moreexterior of my house this past May. I will start with the positive. Shivon, the owner, and Geronimo, his subcontractor are very nice people. But that's essentially where the good vibes end. Just another contractor disappointment. From the very beginning, it was clear something was amiss. They were in such a hurry to get the contract signed and start work. But when the time came to start the job, very little was happening. There were maybe 1 or 2 people here at any given time to tape up all the windows and do some of the stucco repair. But days would pass and no one would show up. The house was uninhabitable because all the windows were sealed with plastic during some of the hottest days of the year. I would ask repeatedly why we weren't moving along and I was told by Geronimo, "we still don't have materials." Which begs the question, why are starting a job you don't have materials to do? Why are you sealing up my house with temperatures in the 80s and 90s if you don't have stucco or paint?!?!? This became the refrain for the next several weeks. (This was supposed to be a 2 week job.) We pushed into June... then July. The material issue never seemed to get resolved. Then it became about weather which is understandable. But that was just a few days here and there. Ultimately, sunny days would come and go and maybe Geronimo's brother or sister would show up to texture things. But this created another issue. The quality of the work just wasn't there. How can there be any continuity if every step of the way, the process is piecemeal. Well, this is where the contractor should be the first line of defense when it comes to quality control. But Shivon was disappointingly pretty absent throughout the process. I can count on one hand the number of times he made it out to my house. I would call and text and no response. I'd then call his office manager (his wife, Ellaine) and he would get right back to me with some excuse as to why he didn't respond the first 3 times. I would see Geronimo more frequently, but his skill set was just not there and he, frankly, seemed more interested in securing direct jobs from my neighbors then doing the job I paid Plaster Pro for. So, I became quality control but my Spanish isn't great. So, there was definitely a language barrier. So, if my contractor is basically AWOL, what am I paying $22K for?!?!? In the end, the job never got finished. There are windows that didn't get fully caulked. Sloppy paint work. Sloppy texture work. The house clearly didn't not get a full two coats of paint. I can actually see where there are two coats and where there aren't. I have stucco and cement glopped onto my pavers and roof. Paint on my window screens. And they used red duct tape to seal my windows as opposed to Painters tape. So, I have duct dried tape glue on my window frames. And there's an entire section of stucco on the garage I had identified to Shivon on our first meeting that is separated from the substrate that never got repaired! Shivon did ask for the balance of what I owe them but the terms of the contract are that the work must be 100% complete. He insisted Geronimo said it was complete, but here's the wrinkle. If Shivon had bothered to come out and do a final inspection, he'd know it wasn't. But he left it to me because he was too busy to give Geronimo the final punch list. True Story. He ultimately relented and said he'd come out to take a look. But the last text I got was "Good Afternoon, how does this Thursday look for us to meet?" I immediately responded the same day with "What time? That was August 23rd. I haven't heard from him since. In the end, it was Shivon's son, Isaiah, that clued me in to what may have been at play here. From the sounds of it, they do a lot of high end work for rich people and celebrities. So, in the end, I was likely not a priority. But, though $22K may not be a lot of money to Shivon and Plaster Pro, it's the most I've spent on this house outside of buying it. Update: I've started uploading photos of how their shoddy work and cheap materials can't even last one NY winter. I'll keep adding pictures since it's only February. What a waste of money and time.
