He gave me a very reasonable quote and proceeded to complete the work we had agreed upon in a very efficient manner. He explained every step of the process as he went forward and made me feel very comfortable that he knew what he was doing. He even went out of his way to point out a few other things going on in my apartment which I really appreciated. The job was completed exactly as I hoped, and Kellam even took the time to dispose of the shelf and thoroughly clean the area he worked in. I would highly recommend Kellam as he is knowledgeable, thorough, and very professional.

I hired NJH to repair damage to a restored antique mahogany staircase in my house…read more The newel post at the end of a section of the banister had separated from the handrail and was loosed at the base. That made this section of the banister wobbly, unsafe and prone to further damage. Prior and now failed repairs with mastic and nails were an eyesore and calling for further restoration work. Ben with Kellam's supervision closely conferred with me how to do the best structural and cosmetic restoration of the banister. They dismantled the newel post from the handrail and the mounting of the post to the staircase frame, and removed old nails and mastic from the post rails joint all without damage. To remove the post, they had to remove stapled carpeting and a stair tread that they replaced without damage at the end of the job. They very securely remounted the newel post with corner backets under the stair tread and long bolts into its base covered with matching round plugs. Having so securely remounted the post and restoring the post to rail mortise and tendon, the handrail was solidly secured without the further use of mastic, nails or screws. With a few touchups to old wood putty, they then managed to remove obvious evidence of prior repairs. As this section of handrail may need a restoration replacement to match the quality of the other staircase handrails, their method of reconnection rail to the post will allow for less problematic handrail replacement without damage.

I want to start this review out by saying that Frank is awesome!…read more I ordered a vanity table online about a week ago and it finally came in the mail today. I quickly became overwhelmed once I started unpacking the table and decided that I needed a professional to do the job. I hopped onto Yelp and looked up Furniture Assembly in my area and decided to give this place a shot. Frank picked up his phone right away and I sent him a photo of the table so that he was able to provide a quote. He quoted me a fair price and told me he'd be able to come ASAP, so I had him come by today. It took him all of 15 minutes to put it together! I think I spent more time actually cleaning my furniture lol. Frank is very professional and I enjoyed our conversation as he assembled my table. I would definitely call him again if I needed any handy work done.

He sent me a text at 2:15PM that he got caught up at another job- although 2+ hours later, I wanted to give him a break as this scenario is very understandable in this field. That being said, I decided to reschedule to give him another shot. I made an appointment for the following Monday at 11:30AM and received a text at 11:30AM that he was in traffic. He asked if 12:00PM would be OK. Of course, no big deal- I'm already home for the appointment regardless. Come 1:00PM (another hour later) and I had both called/texted him and had yet to receive a reply as to whether or not he'd be coming at all. He texted me at 1:15PM saying he was leaving in 10 minutes to come to my house (from a local town). This was a bit frustrating as I had blocked off time from work to be home at 11:30AM, as per the original plan. He quoted us via text and I asked for the information formally (via email) as per my insurance providers request and I never heard back- ever. Maybe he didn't want the job... After a few more quotes I have to admit his was substantially higher (more than double) every other quote we received. Even though he had 1 5 star review, I felt good about giving this contractor a shot. Unfortunately, we wasted 2 afternoons accommodating for his arrival. We will not be trying back in the future.
