Great Estates left a tag on my door as they were clearing storm-downed trees just up the road. Although I didn't have storm damage next to the house, a few blew down in the woods. I did have a dying spruce right next to the garage and a couple of basswoods that were growing over my roof that I decided to remove before they came down on my house in a storm. I set an appointment with Craig who was able to stop by in within 2 weeks, assessed the work, provided a written estimate to remove trees (no stump grinding) to which I agreed. He called the next week and we scheduled a day and time for the work. Craig does the estimates, Jeremy is the arborist and the guy in the bucket truck, Jordan is learning the biz and the guy on the chain saws, chipper and blower. Team arrived on time with bucket truck, (massive) chipper, blower & all equipment. They were respectful of my property, clean-up was great (no twigs or chips anywhere) and the problem trees were gone in a matter of hours. I suspect Great Estates is not the cheapest tree removal company around, however, you get what you pay for in this case. I've had other tree removal services who left trash for me to pick-up; missed appointments or just got too busy to do my job after the quote. Great Estates works a large area. Pros: Service guy was nice and unclogged the drain. Con: I spoke with the owner what needed to be done because I knew it was roots that was causing the problem. Told him I need a snake that can remove roots. He said it would be between $250-$300. They showed up around 9:00 am and had everything cleaned up and out of the house around 10:15 am. Technician tried to charge me $375 saying it was 2 hours of work, when I was told it would be $300.00 max and a lot of the time was wasted due to their equipment not working and the technician trying to fix the attachment at the end of the snake. Equipment was old and literally broke after one use. I paid with cash and asked for a receipt and the tech said they were going to send me an invoice in the mail, but I think he meant receipt. I called back to make sure it was a receipt and not an invoice that they were sending out because I had already paid for the service. Owner gets mad at me and starts yelling profanity over the phone dropping f bombs every other word, because I told him I did not want to pay the $375.00, when he quoted me over the phone $300.00 and a large portion of their time spent was trying to fix the snake that broke right away. There were other issues also but when the owner of the company goes off swearing every other word and will not even let you talk that is when there is no point in supporting them anymore.
