This company came out and tested the flooring and confirmed there was asbestos. My communications…read morewith them up until this point seemed very professional and straightforward, and I was in a panic when I discovered the asbestos issue, so I told them to go forward with abatement. I researched online and learned that abatement of mastic on hardwood floors can be done by scraping or sanding or other methods, and the guy who refinished my hardwood floors a couple years ago got it off of the floor and refinished the wood without issue, so I assumed this would be the case. When I came home, I was horrified when I realized they had cut out all of the hardwood boards out of my kitchen and removed them, instead of scraping and sanding the hardwoods. I'm now out $1800 AND I literally don't have a floor anymore. When I spoke to them over the phone, I was assured that removing the boards was the ONLY way to address the issue, which is simply untrue. I feel like an idiot for not researching other abatement companies, as it was a decision I made in panic. It's too late now, but now I'm researching and finding all of these other companies that offer abatement in Portland for hardwood flooring where the mastic can be removed. When I saw photos of other local companies work post-removal, I felt even more like an idiot. There was no need for me to lose my floors entirely in this process. This has been a nightmare. I was told this company specializes in abatement, but it seems they specialize in demolition, and ensure abatement in the process of said demolition. Unless you're looking to tear out a wall or a floor or cabinetry entirely, I would not recommend.

My entire home including closets and exposed ductwork in the basement had asbestos and they were able to complete the work in 4 days total and worked around my family's needs so that we could be home when we needed to be. The ceilings look so good, even my texture guy is impressed!

Was at the top end of his estimate due to the weight of my materials, but even then was still the best rate that I was quoted (and it was heavy, so was totally expecting to pay the upper end of the estimate). Does this guy really need another 5-star review?…read more OK. The first thing I would like to mention is that Alex is the king of communication. I contacted him here through Yelp. He replied within 30 minutes and he came over the next day to give me a bid on doing the work and set up a time. On pick-up day he couldn't make it; I am pretty sure he simply over-booked himself, but again, he was very good about communication and was also accommodating about it. Since I wasn't in a rush we simply set a new time. Pick-up day went smoothly. He came with a guy named Simon and they moved stuff out pretty quickly. At one point I also had a convo with Alex. He is very fun to talk to -has an engaging personality. But oh oops!--between the time we made the first date, and pick-up day, I added a bunch of stuff to my pile and he couldn't fit it all in! He said he would go to the dump and that Simon would return the following morning to get the remaining things. And now comes the payment part, right? Because many of us have learned from experience that it often backfires on us when we go on ahead and pay for a job that isn't finished. I decided to take him at his word -I made the splurge and paid him for the whole job. So. Did Simon return the next morning as promised? If you're confused about that, check out the number of stars in this review. And not only was Simon here bright and early, he also took a few extra items. But ssshhhhh!!! Don't tell Alex!

It became immediately clear after our initial consultation that Debbie and Nick's approach was significantly different than a highly "recommended" landscaper who proposed the usual yellow day lilies, Japanese holly, nandina, plunked here and there, all of which you can see in any commercial landscape. Nick started with huge amounts of soil mixed with pumice to assure good drainage which was the first major difference. Their very creative plant selection was adjusted as needed, which I found very reassuring as a gardener. We now have these beautiful moss and lichen boulders sitting among a variety of plants, tied together in a colorful apricot and purple pallet. Nick, Debbie, and Josh only work on one project at a time, so we knew once work started, it would not stop until it was finished. Neighbors are always stopping by to look. We can not wait until it all grows in. It is beautiful!

The sashes had all been painted closed and mistreated throughout the years (inexpertly repaired, broken pulleys, missing weights, etc). I wanted to start with eight windows that I considered to be essential to living comfortably through warm Portland summer days, and was concerned about the expense/benefit of the restoration. Would the expense be worth it to me? I couldn't be sure that my rickety old windows could respond to the effort. The Fresh Air Sash team arrived on time every day, set up enclosures to contain lead exposure from all the paint removal, worked quietly and cleaned everything up afterward. Throughout the process, they took care to educate me about my old windows, were professional and a pleasure to have in my home. I liked the result so much that I asked Fresh Air Sash to return a few months later to restore an additional window! I opted to also have thin metal weatherproofing strips installed in the channels to improve household insulation and ease of window movement. I'd like to add that upon moving to Portland I was highly encouraged to install air conditioning. I'd much rather have windows that work! AND fixing windows is the more environmentally conscious way to go.
