I chose Spavia Elmhurst after doing a lot of research and being willing to spend extra for what I…read moreexpected would be a high-quality, relaxing massage. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the most disappointing spa experiences I've had. I booked a 60-minute deep tissue massage with the scalp oil and Hypervolt add-ons. Neither add-on was performed... my scalp was never touched and no massage gun was used though I was initially charged for both (they were only refunded after I reached out). The massage itself felt rushed and incomplete. Most areas of my body were barely worked on, and I left still in pain. When I got up, I noticed the digital wall clock in the room had been partially covered with a towel.. specifically, only the minutes portion was covered. I later realized the session had ended about 5-10 minutes early. Management later claimed that covering the clock is standard practice for guest comfort, but that explanation does not make sense. The clock was not bright at all, and there was a much brighter light left on in the corner of the room the entire time. If a digital clock is supposedly too bright and distracting, then it would make more sense to use a standard wall clock or not have a visible clock at all. Partially covering only the minutes, the part that tells you exactly how much time is left... felt like a very shady business practice rather than a comfort measure. I was also told afterward that my massage was shortened because I arrived late. However, when I checked in, the front desk assured me they were able to push my appointment back and accommodate me so that I would still receive my full 60 minutes. At no point before or during the massage was I informed that my session would be cut short. Letting a guest believe they are getting their full service and then ending early without any communication feels unprofessional. When I contacted them about all of this, the only thing offered was a complimentary add-on for a future visit. but only if I book and pay for another full-price massage. After already spending over $220 and being this unhappy, I don't find it reasonable to be asked to come back and spend another $200 just to receive a small add-on for free. A partial or full refund for the actual massage would have been far more appropriate. I have since been ignored. Overall, this experience did not match the premium price at all. I left sore, stressed, and disappointed. I would not recommend Spavia Elmhurst based on this visit.

Hygiene is very important to me along with the services. Caroline in the front helped me get an appointment and I got a new customer discount as well with my treatment. The front calls me to ask what I meant by this... I explain I didn't make this selection and then I'm told I can only come at 5pm now. Nothing was done to make up for this. Not acknowledged at check in either. I had to fill out a ton of personal information only to have the front desk ask me the same questions again before going back - and then each of my ladies asked me once again when I got into the rooms for each treatment. Some prep would be appreciated. I felt put on the spot and the energy was very expectant, not very nurturing to hep understand and plan an approach together. I've never felt so awkward before the treatment even began. My body massage was fine. I tend to laugh a little when I release stress and it was not really met with a "that's okay" response, but she did her best. I wasn't sure if the laughing was uncomfortable or annoying but it made me feel self conscious. I just tried to hold it in and just wanted to get through the rest of it at that point. When I finished the massage she let me know I could get dressed and I had to remind her I was due for a facial immediately after. I asked if I could get a robe or something instead of getting fully dressed to just undress again. She seems annoyed but went to get one. I laid there for a while. My facial experience was so awkward. The lady was not very social and seemed a bit hesitant. She asked me why I was in and I was explaining to her some of my issues. She immediately recommended an upcharge service. However, I ended up paying for several special treatments I wasn't told about. I was asked about one, told it would be $30 said yes - got into the facial and ended up paying for three extra treatments. The "neck massage" portion was not nice. I have red marks. Being a bit self conscious from the first one, and honestly her lack of engagement as I tried to talk to her during... she seems really disinterested...I just didn't feel super comfortable speaking up. I started to laugh again when she was going hard on my shoulder bone... I apologized and she sort of made a half attempt at making me feel okay. Maybe I've just had really experienced people in the past but I've always been encouraged to "release" tension and told that it was completely normal. Here.....not. This feels like it should be an issue because nowhere else have I had this happen but for some reason her wearing rubber gloves was really off. I could tell her was rubbing product on her hands but then she would only use her fingertips and the gloves got dry and just kind of smudged around so I wasn't getting a ton of product and again, just an awkward experience. I didn't want to ask, are you sure you're rubbing my face right? This is really picky but since we're here now, the thing they put under your knees always goes under a sheet. She put this cold plastic right under my knees. I started sweating at one point and got physically uncomfortable thinking of who else this had touched that day. Finally, when I got dressed to the leave the room she seemed visibly annoyed and showed me the way out, motioning to the restroom on the way out almost like it was autopilot scripting. Okay and here's where it gets shady. At check out, I am told my bill and I was genuinely surprised at how high it was. I asked if she could give me a breakdown and she did, that's when I learned about the several extra charges. At this point, I'm just anxious. I should have said "what??!!" But I just said oh that's interesting...made eye contact to completely dead eyes. She wanted to schedule me for 3 weeks from then, I say no thank you. I am traveling through March. She says I should sign up for the membership (monthly). I remind her, I won't be available for several months. She says yes but it such a better deal, I'd hate for you to pay full price. There was very little awareness across the board here. I felt uncomfortable and anxious leaving.

My massage therapist was appropriate and her pressure was good also. I liked that the massage started on time and not 10 minutes into like massage envy. I want offered any packages for membership but I am currently a member elsewhere. The prices seem a higher than other places but the services seem worth it. Free Parking lot...
