Wow!!! Never in my life did I think I could have a custom wedding dress made, much less afford it. I posted in a wedding group on FB that I had just gotten engaged, and Yani reached out to me and offered her services. Her quote sounded too good to be true, but I went and met with her and seen some of the other dresses that she had made. They were beautiful so and her prices were very reasonable. So, I decided to give it a shot. I must admit it sounded wayyy too good to be true. She also told us that she could make my fiancé's suit. At that very 1st visit she took our measurements. We left not knowing exactly we were going to get, even kind of nervous. But hopeful at the same time. She was very quick, and we went in for our 1st fitting. My fiancé's jacket and vest looked great, and fit him just about perfectly at the 1st fitting. I must admit I wasn't happy with my dress at all... here's where I went into freak out mode. Yani pretty much told me to trust the process. Since I had never had a custom dress made... i did not trust the process at all. When I came back for the next fitting, I can tell you that all my stress was for nothing. The dress was almost perfect. I was like... YES! This is so much better. By my last fitting the dress was perfect. Absolutely perfect! This past weekend was our wedding. I got so many complements on my dress. It fit perfectly. You can tell it was made just for me. I am very short and it didn't drag the ground at all. At the end of the night, I didn't even want to take it off. I want to wear it again. I'm said that it was just for that occasion. I got married on November 22, 2024, and it has taken me nearly two weeks to process the nightmare of my wedding day enough to warn others. What started as a promising relationship with Yani Leslie Smith quickly spiraled into a complete disaster due to her unprofessionalism, lack of transparency, and total disrespect. Here's a full account of everything that went wrong: 1. REFUSAL TO PROVIDE A VENDOR LIST OR FINANCIAL BREAKDOWN Two months before the wedding, I asked Yani for a vendor list to confirm details directly with my vendors after having a nightmare that no one showed up. Yani immediately became defensive, refused my request, and insisted that all communication needed to go through her. She flat-out refused to give me any transparency on where my $12,000+ had been spent, saying she would "never" provide that information. 2. WARDROBE ISSUES * Bridesmaids' Dresses: She required all the bridal party to use her serveses for their dresses/suits. The dresses arrived 2 weeks before the wedding and were completely wrong--cheap, poorly made, and nothing like the custom designs we had agreed upon. Despite charging $333 per person (which included shoes, jewelry, custom dresses, and alterations, and I have text messages from her to prove this), she charged my bridesmaids extra for alterations up to $85. * Groom and Groomsmen:The groomsmen's suits were not ready until the days before the wedding and some were not ready until the day before the wedding. The groom and groomsmen never received their boutonnieres, and the groom didn't receive his pocket square. * The groom's suit was the wrong color upon arrival and she tried to gaslight me by saying it wasn't. I had to pull up text messages proving it. She then provided him with a suit that was too small. He couldn't even lift his arms in the jacket. * Bride's Accessories:I didn't receive my veil or jewelry until hours before the ceremony, adding unnecessary stress and anxiety. 3. REHEARSAL CANCELLATION Two hours before the rehearsal, Yani canceled, claiming her mom and daughter were sick. This left me and my bridal party to figure things out on our own because the venue coordinator, who had agreed to assist us made other plans because Yani assured us all day she would be at the rehersal and the venue coordinator was not needeed. 4. CATERING DISASTER * On the wedding day, there were no caterers. My husband overheared Yani state that she had picked up takeout food from a restaurant at the last minute. * The food was nothing like what we had during the tasting--overly spicy, inedible for many guests, and completely different from what we expected. * Despite paying $31.95 per person for 100 guests, the food ran out after serving only 80 people in child-sized portions. 5. DJ ISSUES Yani refused to let me speak with my DJ beforehand. The DJ tried his best, but he didn't know our music preferences and had no country or Afrobeats music--the genres we wanted most. The music was completely off, and the reception atmosphere suffered because of it and most people left early because of this. 6. ALTERCATION AT THE RECEPTION This was the most shocking and upsetting part of the entire experience. * Yani had been drinking heavily throughout the evening, helping herself to the bar I paid for. * An hour before the reception ended, she came onto the dance floor visibly intoxicated, smelling like weed, and started bumping into one of my bridesmaid intentionally. * When confronted, Yani called my bridesmaid the "B" word, and in the process, spit in her face. * My husband and other bridesmaids had to intervene, taking my friend outside to calm her down, but Yani followed and continued the altercation.The situation escalated when Yani, along with two staff members, physically attacked and jumped my bridesmaid. They grabbed her by the hair, ripping chunks of it out and leaving bald spots. 7. INCIDENT WITH MY DAUGHTER During the reception, Yani caused further distress by refusing my 8-year-old and 13 year old daughter entry to the reception space during my first dance. My daughters were supposed to have a front-row seat to this important family moment since we were blending two families together. Yani pushed my youngest daughter on the back and wouldn't let her in, causing my daughter to become extremely upset. She cried the entire night, traumatized by being excluded in such a hurtful way. I am still feeling mom guilt because of this. 8. EXTREME STRESS AND HEALTH ISSUES Leading up to my wedding, the stress was so overwhelming that I broke out in hives, which only added to my anxiety and ruined the joy I should have been feeling. My cousin the Bride planned her wedding a year or maybe longer. We meet with "Yan" via zoom, established a group chat and were in constant communication with her throughout the year. Deposits were paid last year 2024 and final payment was due in January all paid on time. We had numerous measurements done and completed. This lady is a fraud ... BEWARE! Her dresses are not CUSTOM. They are actually bought from China or Temu or SHEIN but they are not custom. My dress was sent to me late not based on the timeline she told us. When I received my dress, it was DIRTY, looked like it was worn previously and had lots of stains on it. It's smelled like fish and it looked nothing like the dress I ordered. I was devastated. So I contacted the "CUSTOM DESIGNER" to express my dissatisfaction, which before accepting responsibility she told me maybe one of the other bridesmaids tried it on, then she even accused the Bride of trying it on during their visit to Houston. Oh she told me it was 100% satin but THE TAG INSIDE said 100% polyester and made in CHINA Long story short, she agreed to remake the dress, when I finally received the "remade" it was the same UGLY dress she sent before. I looked like an old lady in that dress and she had the nerve to ask me to mail the old one back to her prob so she can resell to someone else like she did me. DO NOT USE THIS LADY! None of her pages show that she's actually making the dresses and she using stock photos or other peoples pictures. this is the worst designer ever ! first of all i was kinda last minute but she still took my order and if she was unable to perform my job she should've let me knew that ! First off everything was always good / picking up etc until my last payment was received from there i had 3 cancellations on the fitting side but i received a texts by mistake thAt said i just got done with someone fitting after mine was cancel prom is just a few days away ! So i was still keeping my cool because she had my 1,300 and we had no dress ! This lady texted my phone saying she will pull up to whenever we at the next day they would've been the hair shop or make up place i thought she was a big joke then so i replied u so u pulling up to a hair or make up shop that's very unprofessional the next day of dress no dress no fitting still ! we changed all plans to be at her 10:30'fittimg this lady steady was saying y'all never sent a address why would i send a address to a hair or make up shop i sent my home address after droppimg my daughter off at 9 am 2 pm still a no show i was heated long story short prom started at 6 dress came in a Uber at 6 in a black trash bag holes and uneven cuts this was my daughter prom last and only senior prom ! Nothing we asked for we got the lady changed the dress around cuts was so uneven the dress was a mess how do u get abother senior prom back ! But the day of prom after been blocked for days having to go through others to reach this lady was the most unprofessional stuff i ever dealt with In life and that Friday morning yea i start going off the lady could not even give a picture of the dress being completed for us not to worry !
