I can not recommend Top Choice General Home Improvement more. I have worked in the trades and can…read moredo a lot of jobs myself and if I had the time, I would. I know what a hack-job looks like, and I know what quality is from experience. But I don't have the time these days so I'm forced to hire people to do the work for me and am almost always disappointed when I find out I paid a professional to do a job worse than I would have done myself. That is NOT what you get when you hire Top Choice. With Top Choice, you will get honest quotes, exceptional quality, and much more than what you'd expect from the typical general contractor. I hired them to patch some rotten cedar shingles on my house, and then match the paint as best as possible without doing an all-out repaint job. They did that - and then some. I don't see how I could have been happier.
It is really, really difficult to find honest hard working contractors in the tri-state area - that is due in part to the fact that there are so many buildings that need fixing up - be that high-rise or single family - that some businesses operate on a "turn and burn" model - just doing a sloppy or even terrible job knowing that there is always another opportunity out there.
But I had seen the work vans for the business parked around my neighborhood quite a few times, so had the sense they were going from one building and house to the next because they had good word of mouth recommendations or a local reputation. I asked one of my neighbors who had hired them what he thought and he said they were quality and efficient so I gave the number on their van a ring...When I asked for a quote, the owner came to my house to do the estimate and he told me that his philosophy was the opposite - to take pride in his work and make sure his customers are happy so that when the next job comes up, as it inevitably will, they call him back. That seems like an obvious way to go about this type of business, but in my experience, I have been truly astounded with the amount of negligence, uninsured and unlicensed hacks, and general scam artists who will give you a low bid and then really do poor work.
As you can tell by what I'm saying in this review, I'm not an easy customer to please. In fact, I'd hate to have to do a job for me as I'm really a stickler if not perfectionist. But these guys left me fully satisfied that I got what I paid for and then some!
The job was estimated to take a week - these guys showed up early every day and worked late managing to finish the job ahead of schedule. That worried me - as i wondered if they were skipping steps or halfassing the work. But, when they team of guys working here had finished, the lead guy asked me to check everything over and make sure it was all to my liking. We went around the whole house, and I found a few spots I wanted them to re-do or improve and they did it without complaint or hesitation. After they left, the owner called me to make sure I was happy, then came back the next day to look everything over himself to make sure his crew was doing this not just up to MY standards, but his as well. Together - we found a few places that we missed on the initial inspection, and he insisted on having his guys come back another day to get every last inch of my siding fixed, repaired, primed, and repainted. That just doesn't happen typically unless you are really ready to get into a pissing match with the owner or crew.
In this case, the crew was not only good at their trade, but they were courteous to me, my family, neighbors, and my little dog. At the end of each work day they left the premises as clean if not cleaner than they found it and were just all around really professional and respectful.
For the next big project, I have no question who I will call to get the work done.
