I am an absolute baby about dentists. I need nitrous oxide just to endure a regular cleaning. On the day of my scheduled cleaning, the office called to say the nitrous oxide hadn't been delivered and we'd need to reschedule. However, I decided to try anyway. Now, don't laugh. They gave me a weighted blanket to steady my nerves and used some type of numbing agent along my gumline-- administered by squeezing out of a tube. Stephanie, the hygienist, was superb. Kind, professional, thorough. I chose to write this review because I've used this dentist for years -- for fillings and root canals and crowns--and want to highlight their goodness. But I also chose to write it for anyone else out there who, like me, has a nearly pathological fear of even routine dental care. Dr. April Carlton and her team will take great care of you. read more

To be clear, I have no issue with the regular office staff and those that do the cleaning. They are all very delightful, friendly, and do a good job. The issue that you may run into like I did, is when you do something above and beyond. In my case, it was a completely botched root canal, which to this day is still infected. Rather than to take ownership a year later, they literally punted to send me to another practice. I did not even begin to entertain their referral, but perhaps I should've as the practice I will review next was likewise a complete joke. Again, I never had any issues with this office related to normal cleanings. My issue is the primary dentist who should not be doing advanced dentistry to people like me. I am now thousands of dollars in the hole because of her ineptitude. read more

My best dentist appointment in years. The office and dentist staff were all kind and welcoming! Thank you Ms.Stefanie!

The staff is excellent and Dr. Calton is the best dentist around. I have been going here for years and wont ever leave. Also, earlier this year I had to take my 4 year old daughter to a pediatric dentist for an emergency and that dentist refused to perform the work after my daughter sat in the chair for only 2 minutes. My daughter was nervous so she asked a few questions but the dentist was extremely impatient and got up and walked out. So not knowing what to do I called Dr Calton explained the situation and she said she would help us. Dr Calton came in and opened the office on her day off and pulled my daughters broken tooth with ease!! I don't think there is a better dentist out there then Dr. Calton!!!! read more

This is a very professional dental office. Dr. Calton and staff provide excellent care.

If I could rate them lower than one star I would. I came into About Smiles dentistry in order to get four fillings, fillings that remained too high for over two months despite returning to About Smiles in order to fix them. I even called them after two months when the pain still persisted and was told by About Smiles to take some ibuprofen to see if the pain would go away. They dismissed my physical pain and told me to wait and see if it would go away. After another month of pain, I went to a different dentist to discover that my filling was still too high and all the nerves in my mouth continued to be enflamed. I am now dealing with potentially a root canal due to continual issues with the fillings. Overall, I will never return and I warn anyone from going to About Smiles, while they are nice and have good bedside manner they will deny your physical discomfort and do bad dental work. read more

While the dental hygienists at this place are great, I have had horrible experiences with the dentists. A young dentist, whose name I can't remember, filled a cavity for both my husband and me. We've both had issues with the fillings, my husbands has fallen out causing tremendous pain, mine was fixed by Dr. Calton whom thought it appropriate to laugh and joke during the procedure, ignoring the fact that due to her employee, I was uncomfortable and in pain for months. We'll be taking our business to one of the much more established and professional offices in the Annapolis area. I should also mention that in trying to get a referral for a periodontist in the area due to a receding gum issue I've managed for years, the same dentist who filled our cavities suggested my teeth/bite , which mind you are perfectly straight (I've never had braces and have been complimented by every dentist I've seen in 4 different states) was causing the recession, and so Invisalign should be my solution. What a joke! Clearly a sales pitch. read more

I went in, waited for about 5 minutes. Hygenist lead me to her station. Very friendly and cordial, too bad I can't remember names. She did my cleaning & gave me good advice about flossing. She finished up, teeth felt great, and left. I recommend About Smiles Dentistry, good service. Like them also for being close to where I live. read more

Best dentist visit ever. The last dentist I went to might as well have been called The Tower OF London Dentistry because they were torturers. About Smiles Dentistry is fantastic and I found my new dentist. Dr. Donald Worm is top notch. So happy to start the new year off this way. Worth every penny. read more

Update 9/18 We went to a new dentist in Annapolis. They found that About Smiles had charged our insurance company for a cavity they claimed was filled in February of this year, and the work was not done. My husband called About Smiles and they never called our new dentist to confirm as promised. We had to file a billing complaint with the insurance company so the actual work that needs to be done can be covered under insurance. Not only has this cavity grown deeper into the tooth, there was no response or consideration for this mistake, how totally negligent with no concern for quality work and customer service. Glad to have a new dentist! read more

I have been a patient at About Smiles for 2 years now. Every staff member who has crossed my path has been kind, polite, professional, and very helpful. Before I moved to Annapolis, I had been living overseas, being followed by a dentist who seemed fine at the time, but in retrospect was terrible. I had been feeling some sensitivity in one of my lower molars and that dentist said that it was caused by the tooth experiencing too much impact with the tooth above it. He assured me that the correct therapy would be to shorten the affected tooth. Six months later, I was still experiencing the sensitivity, but by that time, I had moved to Annapolis. I found About Smiles and booked an appointment with them. Their X-ray showed that I had a terrible cavity in the tooth above the sensitive tooth. They explained that the sensitivity was referred, that there is one main nerve that supplies feeling to the top and bottom of each side of the mouth and sometimes the signal gets confused. I had to have a root canal, unfortunately, but the procedure was nearly painless, and the recovery was more comfortable than expected. Every cleaning I've had since then has been great. I love this dental office and regret that I will eventually have to leave them when my family moves again. read more

About Smiles Dentistry - They do beautiful work - Cosmetic Dentists Near Me - Annapolis, Maryland

My experience in the dental chair was good (painless, I paid the extra for the gas), and everyone was friendly. However, I received a rather expensive "deep cleaning" and to be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure what the benefit was? I've had better "regular" cleanings. Visibly better. But figured they must have concentrated on below the gums so I just chalked it up to whatever. Moving forward, I was getting fitted for invisilign (I had a bunch of FSA money to burn through, again it was expensive, but why not, I also need 2 implants), and had a few follow up appointments and another follow up cleaning appointment. So, I'm a bit sensitive to how expensive this place is when they tried to hit me with a $58 appointment cancellation fee over the phone when I tried to re-schedule one of these appointments (they require 48 HOUR notice), so I literally just remarked how expensive that was (I'm used to paying half that elsewhere, which I understand, life happens and you pay a nominal fee for the inconvenience, you reschedule and everyone moves on... I was just taken aback by the amount) and was trying to figure out if I could make my appointment and take my work call at the same time when someone else came on the line to inform me that I signed "a paper" acknowledging the cancellation fee, as if they were handling me rather than providing ME a service. NOTHING will put me off more quickly than poor customer service such as that, coupled with the extra expense, at this point I shut down. I signed a kazillion documents at their office, obviously I wasn't expecting to have to re-schedule an appointment. AND I wasn't disputing their fee, just remarking how expensive it was. So, needless to say, I'll be transferring to another practice for my invisilign and implants. I hope they enjoy the 58 dollars. But if I'm dropping thousands of dollars, I would just rather be treated kindly. read more

Dr Calton is a great dentist. Her and her staff make going to the dentist almost fun.

Terrible. Got a bill in the mail for additional charges that were not disclosed at time of the appointment.

This doctor charges people "with insurance" more than what they offer to charge to people without insurance and despite having charged to the fullest extent to insurance company, their greed does not get satiated and then they send you a bill and on disputing the validity of the bill they put it on your credit. On my visit they had some problem finding whether they took my insurance or not. While I was waiting for it they offered to me that I could pay 99.00 cash for everything and they would not charge the insurance. Then suddenly they said they can take my insurance and I got the tests done by paying my copay. Later on recieving my statement from insurance company I found they charged them 175.00 and few days later I received a bill from this dental office for 125.00, upon questioning them regarding the bill I had to face their rudeness and later they have put it on my credit file. Do not touch this dentist even for free! read more
