I came to Abo's Grill on Friday night, after months and months of driving by. We were greeted and told to sit wherever we'd like! The service was prompt and we were also greeted by Sam (who I believe is the owner), to welcome us in. We ordered the Pizza Fries for an appetizer along with a couple happy hour (till 7) priced drinks. The Pizza Fries were actually breaded eggplant with cheese, pepperoni, and mozzarella. These were amazing and will definitely get them again when I go back to Abo's as soon as I get a chance to. For the entree I went with a Stromboli, this is when I decided that I was mad at myself for not going to Abo's sooner. I've been to Abo's a handful of times and I wish I liked it. I've tried multiple pasta dishes, pizza, appetizers, and desserts. I haven't tried one thing that I've wanted to finish. The arancini wasn't bad today. I don't have anything productive to say unfortunately. The food just isn't good. The service is friendly enough and the space is clean. What gets me every time - the cannoli shells are wanton wrappers with some cinnamon sprinkled on. We go because my partner and his friend have a weird emotional connection to the place. Great mix of Italian dishes. The pizza and calzones have an excellent homemade crust flavor. Top vote getters in the house: Zucchini and chicken parmigiana. Our youngest daughter is hooked on Nonna's lasagne. The arancini is constantly the top appetizer w/ a crispy outside and rice/cheese middle. For a special treat, get the keylime cheesecake. The pizzas looked good, but I didn't have one. But what I did have is Alfredo sauce that was not alfredo sauce, he told me he just made it fresh with a bechamel which is no more than flour and oil instead of heavy cream and cheese and butter. We also had the lobster mac and cheese which was not lobster mac and cheese it was orzo, you use for Soups very tiny bird beaks. My mom brought us here for a Friday night dinner and there was not many people here. But if you are not here then you are missing out. The happy hour specials alone are reason to come in. From the street, you would think that this is more of a bar food type place...however, walk in the door and get greeted by the family who run the restaurant and you realize that your first impressions are wrong. This is fine Italian dining at a very reasonable price. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and the staff couldn't be more helpful or proud of the food (family recipes) they are serving. This was our first visit to Abo's but let me tell you, it won't be our last. Started off dinner with a side house salad which had the freshest lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes. Never had a salad that tasted so fresh! I ordered Nonni's Lasagna and my husband ordered the Chicken Parmigan. Let me tell you! Do not pass up ordering the lasagna! Our orders have always been hot and on time, and they even went the extra mile one night and still let me order off the menu when they were only serving pizza at that hour. Stopped by Abo's Grill for a quick drink on their first night open. I live in the neighborhood and had been watching the building take shape for months, so I was kind of excited to see the interior. The bar area is huge and there's a large selection of beer on tap. It takes up about half of the restaurant, but there are high top and regular tables surrounding the bar area. The menu offers up Italian classics, salads, sandwiches, and pizza. I had other dinner plans otherwise I might have stayed and had a bite to eat. I'll definitely be back sometime soon for a drink or 5 and hopefully I'll get a chance to check out their food. (Note to my fellow vegans: there aren't many options on the menu but if you ask, it seems like the kitchen can make up something special - like a cheeseless salad or pizza) read more

This review is a bit late, as I came here with my wife almost two years ago while convalescing after having surgery. We had a couple of drinks at the bar - well, her one, me three - as she was driving and I was in a sling - and it was nice. The bartender was a great young guy who was helpful and very friendly, and also helped us with the decisions we had with a couple of things we ordered to go. We decided on pizza and one other item that slips my mind at the moment, but it was fantastic. I mean, REALLY good. I haven't been back since but that will change as I'm newly retired and will have a ton of spare time. One side note, I did notice that an older gentleman who may be the owner or manager (I say older, he's probably younger than me) was in and out of the kitchen frequently, and had a kind of odd, almost unapproachable, air to him - MY perception only, he did or said nothing to elude to that. I know that sounds strange to say but it was weird to me that he didn't even smile in our direction the whole time we were there - I used to manage a restaurant in Buffalo for sixteen years before moving to the area and always walked around and talked to people, and our place was huge compared to this little one. Also, as we were about to leave, but not quite leaving yet, he looked over in our direction, smiled and waved. I smiled back and waved, only to realize he was waving at a couple who was coming in the door which was directly behind us. To say it was embarrassing is an understatement. LOL. My wife, who BTW is black, laughed a good hearty laugh and I felt pretty stupid. She made a comment on the way to the truck about how she felt "his vibe" from the moment we walked in. Now, I'm NOT ONE to jump to that type of conclusion, if you catch my drift. I've seen it a hundred times, and it's not something we run into often, so I want to make it very, very clear that I am not suggesting anything like that. If it happens again, who knows? He did congregate around to others in the restaurant but not all other people, and being in the location he's in, it'd be hard to stay in business with that mindset. My wife and I wanted to try this gem of a restaurant. The place was very clean and inviting. Our waitress was very engaging, professional and absolutely took great care of us. I am going to guess that the owner or manager came by our table to check on us and to see that our meals were prepared properly, which I thought was very nice. My wife ordered the veal Parmesan which was prepared exquisitely. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan which was phenomenal. However, my wife and I both thought the pasta that came with our dinner was missing some salt, which was corrected with the salt shaker. Over all both meals were great. This was our first time going there, and I look forward to going back to try other items on the menu. Great spot in the heart of Lyndhurst. My girlfriend and I stopped in for a happy-hour, Valentines Day dinner! The bartender was waiting his customers at the bar and main floor with ease. We felt at home and comfortable. Beers were cold and fresh, food was fast and delicious. Pricing was very reasonable. We will definitely be back! I absolutely love this little dive restaurant! The staff is so extremely kind and they go above and beyond to make sure you have the best experience. Once while ordering a large take out order they double checked the food twice to make sure it was all there which I so appreciated! Everything that I have ordered there has been delicious! This is a new neighborhood favorite. For the entrees, we have only stuck to the pizza and calzones, both of which are delicious! We have to order extra of their homemade marinara it is so good. We like coming up here for a drink and a casual meal. The veggie calzone is awesome! It wasn't watery like some veggie calzones. The crust is cooked perfectly! This is a newer spot in our neighborhood and we drove past it many times before finally checking it out. It wasn't crowded So we were allowed to choose our seat. It's not a large place but they do have a nice size patio which will be helpful during the summer months. They have a 4 hour happy hour from 3pm-7pm which is well worth it and includes wine and beer. However, the happy hour does not include food. Just FYI. Our waitress was nice and attentive. The manager walked around checking with every table to make sure they were okay. We tried the eggplant pizza fries as an appetizer and split the Stromboli. The pizza fries were better than I thought, and they were not stingy with the toppings. The Stromboli was Great and it's enough to share, depending on your appetite. We also tried the calzone. The calzone was also a huge portion and could be shareable. The calzone was great and the dough was the best part, very fresh. However, I think next time I'll ask them to add pepperoni, I failed to read that it did not include meat. But that's my fault ! Last minute choice for dinner. My sister said she keeps riding by and wanted to go so we went. When we walked in the atmosphere seemed a little unwelcoming. My sister called before we went to check the hours and upon entering we were asked if we had a reservation??? So of course we didn't and we looked around at a half empty restaurant. Who we would come to learn was the owner Sam shared they would be having live entertainment later and were going to be pretty full. Sam still managed to get us a table. Same came back over and warmed up by sharing the daily and happy hour specials and chatted for a bit. We ended up ordering a couple of things from the menu. We ordered the Philly steak egg rolls which were extremely yummy. We also had Italian wedding soup, lasagna and the meatball sliders with an order of fries, all of which were good(can't really go wrong with fresh cut fries). We live in the area and this is a go to! I consider it a diamond in the rough. It's delicious food, consistently good and super cozy and comfy! Pizza fries are a fun and good appetizer.
