Start off with, at the beginning of the process Jon was the most responsive and thorough in his presentation. His bid on my house four years ago when I wasn't ready to replace the roof was used an updated. This year, in the face of "and Nino", I felt it was time replace the roof. Jon resurrected his prior bid and updated the for bid today's situation. Altogether the bid in the work was very fair but it did have some surprises. Roofing is a petroleum-based product and petroleum prices were down substantially from the time of the prior bid. Shingles should be less expensive. Jon claimed otherwise is said it increase costs due to single prices, Workmen's Comp. etc. etc. I think part of this was snowballing but still he was the most competitive bid so I went with able roofing. Work was scheduled to begin on October 8, 2015. Jon was four weeks late at that point. Communication is not his strong suit but most trade providers and Moran are so arrogant that one is lucky to get any communication at all. Some of his excuses for not coming earlier did not make sense. It was perfect roofing weather but he claimed weather was a factor in not coming I believe he squeezed another job or two in line ahead of me over the four week delay. Once able roofing got going they performed in a professional manner. The original bid increased by about 8000 due to dry why rot they found (is if I didn't expect them to find this) and the need for gutter replacement. The four day schedule probably would've been three days except for the extra work they did a nice job cleaning up at the end of each day and at the end of the job. With very little disruption the household due to their work. Altogether, I think most contractors take Marin County residents for a ride knowing they can extract intensely greater pricing from residents they see as flush. We have a house in Texas is 70% of the roof of my Marin County home the roof in Texas was replace by 20 x 20% of the cost of the roof Marin County. There is an old saying that "in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.". In Marin County I say "in the county of contractor ripoff artists Able roofing stands out as a nice exception". read more

I had a great experience working with Jon on my roof replacement. He was very detail-oriented in the bidding process and responsive about any questions I had. His pricing was reasonable. He had terrific communication during the roofing process where some issues were encountered once the roof was torn off, and was very fair in pricing out the incremental work to cure those defects. His guys left the alleys around the side of the house cleaner than before the roof replacement started. He also was happy to discuss placement of the satellite dish after the roof was complete. We had a great experience with Jon today! We had a small leak in our tile roof and my wife called around to a lot of roofers today and there was no one that could help us. Jon did us a huge favor and was able to send 2 of his crew out to inspect and fix the leak. They arrived right on time, got right to work and were really reasonable. He also gave us a recommendation for someone to help repair the drywall. He was great! Highly recommend. read more

I can't say enough about the great job Jon and his staff did on roofing our home. I note a few negative comments, which prompted me to write this one. I had never met Jon before, but he did come highly recommended. It seems everyone wants a new roof right now with the pending weather ahead. Jon shared with us his voicemail was full everyday and he won't take on work that he can not complete. He and his crew produce quality work at a fair price. They were extremely "clean" in the removal of our tile and we could not be happier with our new roof. Love the seamless gutters with the flip screens, which will it easier to clean out in years ahead. As a side note, the inspector that came by told us we were working with the best, he wouldn't use any other roofer in this area to do his own house. That pretty much sums it up. read more

Last year at the height of the storm on the Sunday before Christmas, I luckly contacted Jon at Able Roofing. To my surprise and delight, he came to my home in San Rafael and assessed the problem. It was determined that the shingles on the top eave had been installed incorrectly. He went and bought new shingles, tore off the old ones and replaced them with new well after the sun went down. The next weekend, he came again and went in the attic to be sure there were not any leaks and there were no problems. I was so impressed with his professionalism and concern and workmanship. I've recommended him to a number of my friends and would use him again in a heart beat! read more

Jon from Able Roofing did an outstanding job at a reasonable price! Jon went the extra mile in every respect. He knew we were installing solar . Instead of having the solar company go through our new roof he explained that by installing the stanchions directly into the plywood and then flashing them to protect for leakage our shingle warranty would remain intact. Jon worked with Solarcraft, who provided the stanchions and mapped out the locations for them to be installed. When we had questions, Jon was patient and explained exactly what work would be done. I called Able Roofing the day before Thanksgiving at 3 PM, expecting to leave a message and just hoping for a response within the next week or so to arrange a repair on a persistent leak. Surprisingly to me, Jon took my call on the 3rd ring and while he initially cautioned me regarding his workload, he did take the time to ask where my house was located. As it happened, he was in my neighborhood and he diverted a crew on their way home to my house. Within the next 15 minutes he had been on my roof, identified the problem, described the needed repairs, and had his crew stripping back roof tiles while he purchased the needed materials to complete the fix. They were done by 4:30 and no sign of the leak was seen during a post Thanksgiving storm on Friday and Saturday. I have waited as long for a pizza delivery as it took for Able Roofing to repair my roof-granted, there was a fair amount of timing luck involved, but the commitment to customer service was impressive. I worked with Jon on the roofing project of my ~25 year old home to install a new roof and with Pac Solar to install a solar array. It was a long and rainy winter in northern California so we weren't able to get the project rolling until late March but once Jon's crew started, it was knocked out in less than a week on a somewhat technical roof. The finished product looks great, I've received compliments from strangers, and nearly all of my neighbors have inquired. The crew was expeditious, efficient, and best of all, Jon's prices were appreciably lower for the same or better products. Just the best experience I could have hoped to get, I would now consider Jon a friend. He was so patience, knowledgeable, fair, and diligent. All of his workers and subcontractors knew their job. They were very professional, prompt, and respectful. If there was ANY hiccups, Jon took care of it. We had been trying to get a roofer to return our phone calls. It was 2 years of frustration with either unreturned calls or missed appointments. My roof had gotten to a point where I was worried about irreparable damage. The first contact with Able was to patch a hole for us during the rains. They came out that next day. Patched it. The material shifted over the next couple of days and created another issue. Jon sent them back that same day. What was amazing was that, at that time, Jon was on vacation. But he was still on the job. The only difference was he wasn't there to oversee his guys. I REALLY could go on and on about these guys, but I'll just make it short; if I have any other home issue, even though Able is a roofing company, I'm going to check with these guy FIRST. I COMPLETELY trust them and they did a fantastic job. You would NOT regret using Able. If anyone gives Able a bad review, I honestly have to question their judgement. If you need your root and/or gutters done, you'd be hard pressed to find a better company. read more

We our roof replaced, new gutters installed, and three sun tunnels added. All the work was done well and on time. The price was fair and there were no unpleasant surprises. Thank you so much Able Roofing! We had a heck of a week with our furnace and washing machine going out and then a roof leak. AHHH!!! To start, Haley in the office was amazing. She worked to squeeze us into the schedule right away - always super on top of communication and just a delight to work with. The folks who came out were excellent as well. Made quick work of identifying the issue, explained it clearly (with pictures) and even cleaned the roof off when they fixed the issue. These guys are really great. They are very busy and it is necessary to fit into a schedule, but it is worth it. They did 3 roofs for me. Two were apartment buildings and one was my home. In addition, they did a roof for a friend who is very happy with their work and are scheduled to do a roof for another friend. I recommended them because I was that pleased with the work they did for me. Their cost was reasonable. The crew cleaned the job site each day and on completion. File these guys under Nope. They came out here last year to do a repair on my roof. It stopped leaking for a day and a half, then started leaking again in the same spot. I called them multiple times to let them know their repair had failed, and to get them to come out and try again: last year when the leak restarted, over the summer/fall before the rains came, and recently when it started leaking again. They would not return any of my calls. They still haven't! I mean, seriously? Who runs their business like that? Punks. read more

Our paperwork shows a Petaluma address for Able but it's the same business as listed here. We had our Novato house re-roofed last June. In addition to the roof we had new gutters and downspouts installed, and we had three sun tunnels put in. Everything performed perfectly during this winter's rain and wind, so we're very satisfied. A couple of things came up, one when the crew was here, one later. Both were handled to our satisfaction. First, painting the downspouts wasn't part of the contract but Jon got a couple of his guys on it, and they got it done in a couple of hours. The extra cost was reasonable. Later one of the gutter screens, required in fire areas, came loose after a branch fell on it. Jon came out and replaced the screen at no charge. This was 8 months after the original work was done. Here's what we experienced when Able was here; Work started on time, took the number of days we'd agreed on, and was done for the quoted price. The crew worked hard, cleaned up daily. and was cheerful and courteous all the time. And the bid/price was reasonable. Able has re-roofed most of the houses in our neighborhood. In fact, we got a discount because we joined with two neighbors who needed re-roofing at the same time. The only thing preventing a perfect 5 Stars is this reviewers prejudice against giving perfect scores, and some of our plants were damaged by falling debris. read more

We just replaced our 20+ year old roof with Able Roofing. Jon and his crew were a pleasure to deal with. We have had leaks which have destroyed our family room ceiling twice. Each time another roofer attempted to fix it but didn't get to the root of the problem. Jon water tested the roof when he was finished, and guarantees his work for ten years. Our leak worries are over. They also re-insulated our house while they had access, installed an attic fan, and will return to pop in a new shower skylight. They used visqueen to protect decks, outdoor furniture, and plants, and were diligent about picking up the little bits of roofing paper that blew further afield into the garden. Jon has a reference list pages and pages long and has done entire neighbourhoods so you can go see his work first hand, and see the various colour options on houses he has done. Our roof started leaking last night and Able was the only company to answer the phone this morning when I called 8 companies to have someone come out to look at it. Not only did they come out, but they repaired the leak immediately also. Excellent service and reasonably priced. I am very disappointed with Able Roofing. I have left 5 voive messages with Jon and he has not returned my calls. I suspect that this is because my first message gave him the size of my roof and he probably thought it was too small to bother. But, as I had discussed with him a month ago, it has 2 skylights that need to be replaced and I was anxious because one is leaking into the house. If he didn't want to or have time to do the job, I would have appreciated the courtesy of a return call responding to my messages. I've wasted a month assuming that he would do the work because he said he would. Now it's raining and I have to frantically shop around for someone else which I really don't appreciate. read more

We had selected this contractor due to his outstanding ratings on Yelp. Unfortunately this was a mistake. We had originally arrange for a roof replacement estimate on July 6, 2015, and as of today Jon informed us that he will not only will be unable to supply us with a written estimate after meeting with him, but will not take anymore work until October 2015. This was a great disappointment considering his reputation was so positive per Yelp reviewers. The personal time invested in this company was not only disappointing but frustrating in attempting to reach him for a quote or the status of his estimate. Regardless if his performance is outstanding in replacing our roof,I can not honestly say I would consider this company due to the lack of reliability, consideration, or professionalism for us as a potential customer. This type of business practices is way below par regardless of the quality of workmanship. read more

I had an excellent experience with Jon and his crew. Even though I had to wait a couple of months for the project to start, since they are so busy, it was well worth the wait. Jon is very knowledgable and I found him to be incredibly honest. There were some challenges with our roof since it was tar and gravel with a very shallow rise. We also had a run off area that caused flooding in one area of our house. Jon presented me with multiple options since I wanted to do something other than tar and gravel and he also gave me options for the run off problem. He didn't pressure me to do one thing over the other. Just gave me valuable and useful information. I ended up going with something called Cap sheet. Through all my research I had never heard of this method but Jon highly recommended it for our situation. So far we have been incredibly happy with the results through this hot summer as the house has been cool even on the hottest of days. I've been up on the roof multiple times since it was replaced and I can honestly say it is impressive how solid it is and the way Jon and his crew remolded it so the drainage would be much more efficient. We are ready for the rain and feel confident that our new roof will last for many, many years problem free. Jon and his crew were exceptional. There was one point during this project where I threw a curveball at Jon involving changing up the plan completely with the fascia boards and drains. This was two days into a 4-5 day project. Jon's knowledge, and integrity for his work came through loud and clear during this part of the project. So did his patience with me and my ideas. His crew showed up on time every day and they were respectful of the property. They covered any area that might be exposed to the roofing material and at the end of each day did a thorough clean up. No roofing job is pleasant but this team was exceptional so I would highly recommend Able Roofing. read more

This is a late review for Able roofing, as I used them to replace my old, failing flat tar and gravel roof, as well as the composite pitched roof early in 2016. Jon and his crew did a very good job on the large project. The roof has performed as advertised for the spring and fall storms that we have had here in southern Marin. Jon is a bit of a one man band, so while he will do what he can to meet your needs, don't expect him to have the same resources as a large company. That being said, he has been very responsive whenever I have called, and the new roof is solid, and well done. read more

His roof work is as good as it gets!! This is my second experience working with Able Roofing. He fixed a chronically leaky roof on my old house the first time he came out even though others had tried and failed to correctly fix it. When I moved to a different house I had another company fix a small leak and within 2 days, there was an even larger leak.They never returned despite two appts. I didn't call John because I didn't think he would come this far. I should have just called John the first time. He put on a new beautiful roof for me, cleaned up after themselves, charged me just what he said he would. To boot, he thanked me for having them do the work!! All in all, you won't find a better craftsman who knows how to do such beautiful work and is an absolute pleasure to work with. Kudos to him and his terrific crew! read more

Came home after vacation to find a leak under my skylight. John did my roof in 2016 but skylight is original (28 yrs old). His team arrived fast after my call to diagnose the problem even though I'm sure they are busy after the big storm. They conducted leak testing and figured out the problem, installed temporary silicon sealing and tarp, and measured for a new skylight. Everyone was quick, polite, and professional. Thank you! I called Jon a day after calling the company who had installed my new roof the year before because the new roof was leaking rain through the skylights. Jon called me back within an hour, had two guys on my roof in torrential rain within a couple of hours and had the problem fixed. I don't care that the roof was under warranty; I would rather have good customer service when I absolutely need it (and having water on the floor from the first real rain of the season counts as that) than wait for people who should know better to do what they should have done right the first time. Jon will get my business in the future, the other guys I never want think about them again without feeling disappointed. read more

I just had the best possible experience one can have with a professional roofer. After the big storms this past weekend, I had developed a leak in my roof. I called a different roofer -- Miranda Roofing -- on Tuesday for a 10AM appointment on Friday morning (knowing more rain was on the way this weekend), and they were a "no show" and didn't return my desperate phone calls all morning. That is not the way to win customers, Miranda Roofing! I then looked on Yelp for a different "5 star" roofer and found Able Roofing, and called them. Jon the owner returned my phone call within thirty minutes, and -- without previously having scheduled any time -- he and his assistant came over to my house an hour later and spent all afternoon fixing the leak (it was much more complicated than we had anticipated, and he even needed to have custom flashing fabricated for around the chimney area which had been victimized by previous shoddy repairs from another roofing company). Knowing that additional rains were coming this weekend, Jon talked the custom fabrication shop in San Rafael into making the new flashing that afternoon, right before they were going to close for the weekend. Jon managed to finish the difficult job the same afternoon I called him! Talk about service. And Jon is a smart, effective, hardworking no-nonsense but friendly guy with a "can - do" attitude; and he and his assistant worked hard to get the job done before darkness fell and before the next rainstorm due this weekend. And his prices were remarkably reasonable, so much so that I paid him about 20% more than he asked for (he was pleasantly surprised by that gesture, needless to say). I could not be happier, and would strongly recommend Able Roofing to all you fellow Marin-ites! read more

After contacting several roofers to repair or replace my beloved tile roof for the home I grew up in and now own, I called Able roofing. I was impressed by John Wills. I had been told by other company estimaters that they would be able to match my tile, most never called back . John inspected the roof explained that the tile was a composit material and what had caused my lifetime roof to deteriorate. Having been raised in the trades it was apparent John knew his business. He helped me decide on a shingle that was a brick red and would coordinate with the brick on my house. It Was also a plus that John owned the company and was hands on. On our start date John and crew arrived set to work removing the tile roof Each member of his team had their job to do thu out the removal and installation . They worked fast and efficiently with little direction. They found considerable dry rot and had to replace 15 sheets of plywood , some facing on the eves and replace the skylight . Over 4,000 square feet of roof and the repairs were completed on time and at a fair price. At the end on each work day the crew went from the roof too clean up When they left the property was clean. They even cleaned a fountain. John, his Forman and crew were a pleasure to do business with and I no longer grieve for the loss of my tile. I now have a beautiful brick color clean roof I love. read more

Able was very responsive, helpful and timely. We lost several roof shingles in the recent storm. We called and received an immediate response. While they couldn't make it the first day we called, they were there on day 2 to immediately replace the shingles. The first big storms of the winter same in our new (to us) home and we had a pretty bad leak. Jon came over on a Sunday, gave us an estimate before he left and told us he could get it done it one day (appealing given the frequent rains we've been having). I was skeptical, but he had really good references (gave me a 3 page list and after 6 folks I got the impression he was reliable) and his estimate was on par with a couple of other roofers we heard were good. Jon was always quick to reply to e-mails and kept me informed about when the roof would come on (it was hectic with storms rolling in every few days). They found a lot more rot in the roof than I had feared, but replaced the rotten wood and some soggy insulation. They also did some work getting the chimney pan together in a more reliable manner to prevent future leaks. Because of all the extra work the roof was a fair bit above the estimate. However, Jon gave me receipts for all of the materials so I know I wasn't being upcharged. The roof looks good and his workers cleaned up the property. Jon agreed to split the permit fee with me prior but accidentally charged me for the whole fee. When going over the bill a couple weeks after the job I let Jon know and he dropped a check off the next day. I think this guy is honest and knows how to get a job done. I'd hire him again in 25 years when this roof needs to be replaced. read more

Able Roofing has continued to provide excellent service to help me resolve my roof leak. The owner, John, sent his tile roof expert and an assistant to my house today to examine my roof more closely when it is not raining. They identified a hole in the membrane of my roof and patched it up free of charge. Now I can seal up the holes in my living room walls and ceiling knowing that my roof will not leak again. The owner, John, provided me with all of the documentation I needed to file claims with my homeowner's insurance company within a day of asking for it. He has always returned my calls within the same day and takes the time to talk through all of my concerns and explains things thoroughly. John and his team have been straightforward, even when they have had to deliver bad news. I know that all of the roofers are extremely busy right now, and I am very grateful to Able Roofing for helping me resolve my persistent leak issues quickly, effectively, and with courtesy. read more
