We used Ken Cooper Roofing to replace our entire roof after our solar installer screwed it up. They did an excellent job. The crew - especially the foreman Francisco - was competent and went about their business in a highly professional way. The workmanship appears to be excellent, and it's backed by the best warranty that GAF (the roofing manufacturer offers). I went with Cooper Roofing even though their bid was 20% higher than others because I wanted to make sure that the work was well done. It's definitely been worth it. I also want to thank Kyle, the owner of the business (and Ken's son who took it over), who provided invaluable help in getting the solar company to pay for the new roof and coordinated with them to ensure the new installation went well. Cooper Roofing isn't the cheapest out there, but the quality is excellent and I don't mind paying a modest premium for high quality work. read more

Two old roofs removed, rotten plywood replaced, old vents brought up to code, nor vents added. Old Solar Tube replaced and rotten chimney box replaced and painted to match house. All new eaves were painted as well so no future work for me to deal with. Roof was actually done in 2 days. Gutter guy finished up gutter work on third day. Kyle Cooper sent two workers to install my gutters first part of 2019. They actually ruined the entire bottom section of my brand new roof, made unnecessary chops and cuts to my eaves literally destroying parts of my home, didn't install downspouts over the existing drains where previous downspouts were, and the worst part (if it's even possible to be worse than all that), the gutters are wavy and DO NOT EVEN DRAIN! This was truly the worst, most unprofessional hack job I have EVER experienced. Despite many correspondence requesting to make it right, I was ignored and left with this nightmare. Neither Kyle nor Ken ever even bothered to come see what sort of job the two flunkies did which so poorly represents their business and reflects upon their reputation. I even could have such a better job myself with NO experience whatsoever. It felt as though this job was to be an example of everything NOT to do and how to do everything horribly and perfectly wrong. This business has absolutely NO integrity, accountability, takes no pride in their work and treats their customers like dirt with no respect whatsoever. I've learned that they did this same thing to one of my neighbors who also received NO resolution and had to hire another company to do their entire gutter job over also. Shameful. They sent a single workman, Scott, who single-handedly cleaned the roof and gutters and installed 300 feet of gutter guard as a day's work. We are very pleased with the expertise and thoroughness of his work. I waited until the next heavy rain to make sure the whole system is working properly, with no leaks or blockages. Because I originally had Dutch style gutters, water would always collect on the roof, causing dry rot to the fascia and soffit, and water damage to some of my interior walls. Well, all those problems are gone now! They removed the old tar and gravel roof and replaced it with shingles. And they cut down the fascia boards so they could install more traditional gutters. Of course, with any job this big, I was always a bit nervous. But they explained everything clearly to me up front, and they gave me frequent updates on the progress. Just bad service - Ken Cooper came over for gutter guard installation, measured the perimeter of our home, and never followed up. I had to call several times, voicemail was full, so I couldn't leave a message. I then emailed to remind them I still wanted the service, weeks later they emailed me the quote, I signed it, then they never followed up (no appointment, no questions, just ghosted me). Yikes! Our new gutters were installed in November 2015 and the Coopers were helpful, responsive and professional, offering sound advice. Due to their good reputation, we waited about four months to get on their installation schedule. We like the gutter style, color and generally they performed well in the record 2016-17 rainfall season. Our installation was tricky because the property has a mix of flat foam roofing and also conventional pitched roofing with composition tiles that had some defects left by the previous roofing company. Cooper roofing used some creativity to deal with these challenges. For instance, they custom trimmed the back of one twenty-foot run of guttering so that it would fit and drain correctly. There were some minor hiccups with one of our guttering runs that we didn't discover until months later and the company followed through with complimentary after-sales service. read more

Called them three times to schedule an appointment for several projects, small and large. Left detailed messages, left a number, and on each call were extremely polite. NEVER heard a peep back from anyone. If this is how they treat potential customers before the job begins, imagine how they treat you during and after the fact. This seems to be a common process between many homeowners and contractors. many contractors are great, but also many are incompetent in basic business skills (e.g., communications, scheduling, etc.) that one wonders how competent they are in their trade. Most importantly you begin on the wrong footing. That is, if you cannot communicate well or at all, I lose trust and faith in you. Such that even after an apology, I won't trust that you would do right by me. Homeowners will take any prompt return call, even if you merely say, "I'm sorry, but I cannot get in touch with you for a week or more" or "Sorry but we are overbooked for the next three weeks, and will try our best to call you then, if you are interested". ANYTHING is better then nothing. We are busy people and you are a commodity business, thus we can always pick the next guy in line. So don't waste our time. After all, we pick people based on some research and time spent reading your profile, listening to your YouTube blurb, and reading reviews. Highly recommend Ken Cooper Roofing and Gutter Systems! Kyle was great to work with from the moment I called him. We promptly scheduled a consultation, and he came out personally and inspected the gutters to replace and gave me a quote within a few days. We asked about gutter guards, also, and Kyle gave us a great breakdown of available products and his recommendations. Within a few days, Kyle and Scotty and crew were on site, earlier than planned (which was awesome), and had them replaced in a few hours. There was a small leak in the flashing (WHICH WAS NOT THEIR FAULT, as it was already there). I called Kyle and he had Scotty come back out the next day and fix it, at no charge, even though they were not at fault at all. Can't recommend these guys highly enough. We talked to about 6 roofers to get a new roof. Ken Cooper Roofing was not the lowest bid, but they really were the company we wanted to go with. I meet Kyle (Ken's son) for the first visit, and had a good feeling about them. It wasn't about the cheapest, but more about who seemed to care about the work, and they got first pick. The team is great, fast and clean; Francisco knows what he's doing, really great experience. On the day they opened up the roof, I saw all that mess in the garage and the attic, I thought 'd have so much cleaning to do that night. I came home in the evening and it was all cleaned up, really appreciated that they cleaned up nicely behind them! I had some extra garbage that I had to somehow take to the dump, and they were ok with using their truck to help clear that as well. Ken and Kyle are good with letting you know everything up front. I'm glad they are both involved and both come to the house, shows that they care about what their workers do. I didn't have the signed contract printed and checks ready when they came back the second time, and they were very understanding and worked through the service without requesting the 10% deposit, showed they trusted us, and are not worried about the quality of their work. 10 1/2 inches of a rain in 24 hours was the ultimate test for the new roof that Ken Cooper Roofing installed on our home this summer.   After years of putting up with minor leaks around skylights and clogged gutters, we were more than pleased to sit through the storm without any problems at all.  We have had  the gutters and downspouts on our house replaced twice in 25 + years we have been here and they have never been able to handle even 2-3 inches of rain.  The system that Ken Cooper Roofing put in worked perfectly with no overflows and no back-ups.   When we had the roof installed this summer, we found the company conscientious  professional and a pleasure to have on site. Ken Cooper Roofing and Gutter Systems has done extensive work on our home including tarring our roof and restoring a Spanish tile section. Most recently, they repaired a faulty gutter transition, cleaned the downspouts, and installed foam gutter protectors. In my history with Ken Cooper, their pricing has been fair - not the least expensive, nor the most expensive. I appreciate their honesty, integrity, and approach to maintaining our roof and gutters. I typically read other reviews prior to posting - I am curious if some of the criticisms of other posters can be explained. When our roof was tarred, they explained the different available products and options. I was not encouraged or coerced to select the most expensive option. Since the installation approximately four years ago, we have not experienced a single problem. When we observed a gutter malfunction that was unrelated to their work, they explained the probable cause and addressed this issue. At that juncture, they could have proposed an more expensive solution but instead suggested the most reasonable repair. Typically, when I contact the office, I am greeted by voice mail, but receive a call back within 24 hours. Recently, they have been extremely busy and available several months in the future for projects. The importance of this observation is that the job is completed correctly the first time, apparently due to using a skilled but limited number of workers. I trust their work based upon extensive experience. Yes, there does not appear to be an office assistant to answer phones, at least on the gutter side. But, this is not a priority for me. Finally, they are extremely careful not to damage surrounding vegetation or the home. For these reasons, I have been very pleased with their work and professionalism. read more

We have a very small leak in our roof. No interior damage. Called Ken Cooper to take a look. Told us it would be a $250.00 charge just to give us an estimate. They said it was their "Winter Fee." Ken, Kyle and crew are great. They installed the original roof in 1998. It was great until another contractor installed skylights and created leaks. Called Ken Cooper and they managed to squeeze us into their super-busy schedule. (This is not a good year to need a roofer during the rainy season!) They spent a full day and made many changes including swapping out dry-rotted plywood. They only have one (good) crew. One of them was on the crew for the original roof 19 years ago. Wow. 6 STARS! Rarely have I encountered integrity and pride of quality from a service provider like I just got from Kyle Cooper from Ken Cooper Roofing and Gutter Systems. Let me tell you how this went. I scheduled an appointment for an estimate on a gutter system for my home. Kyle arrived early and gave me valuable information pertinent to my decision. He sent me an offer within a day and told me it would be a couple weeks, but would try to fit me in sooner if time permits. Sure enough, a few days later, he emailed me with an offer to get my job done tomorrow. I agreed and his installers arrived as planned. They did a great job, but I did notice there was an extra seam a foot from the end. Kyle called me after the job was over to follow up on my satisfaction. I was totally satisfied but casually mentioned the extra seam and indicated I wasn't too worried about it because I was sure he would stand behind his work. He didn't let it go. I got an email from him the next day saying he was sending out his foreman to replace that run and eliminate the seam, as per our contract. I was floored! He could have walked away with my check and I wouldn't have given it a second thought (unless it leaked). It is the high ethical standard and integrity in Kyle that will continue the successful business that is Ken Cooper Roofing and Gutter Systems and has earned my loyalty into the future. I've known Ken Cooper and his family my whole life, but this was the first time I had the pleasure of working with him. After receiving a very reasonable estimate, Ken told me his crew would show up between 8 & 830 last Thursday at my Terra Linda home. Well, they got here at 730, which was a nice surprise compared to some contractors I've hired over the years. The first day, my 28-year-old roof was removed. By 4pm the next afternoon, I had a gorgeous new roof that matched the old one in color. But it also now has a horizontal ridge line at its apex to help my ceiling fan vent hot air more efficiently. We have been remodeling for more than a decade in Marin and have dealt with the good, bad and the ugly. In the case of this team, I'd put them in the "great" category... several years ago, Ken Cooper installed copper gutters on our home here in San Rafael. Ken and his team did a great job and the gutters still look wonderful. When we added a garage this year (2016) that also needed gutters -- and a complicated gutter system at that -- we called them again and Ken's son Kyle came out. Like father like son, Kyle was on time, professional, offered options, worked through some issues with our contractor, and sent his crew out to do the install a couple weeks later, right as promised. Kyle was available via text with 30 second response times. Clearly Kyle grew up immersed in the business as he knows everything there is to know about different kinds of gutters, providing different sizing and styling options, and answering my 1000 questions as I came up to speed on all the options. I can't rave enough about this company..... they are great. Professional, fair pricing, on-time, on-budget, respectful of your property. You can't ask much more than that. The Yelp definition of a one star rating, "Eek! Methinks not" perfectly describes my conclusion. While Ken and his son came quickly to provide an estimate for a minor leak in my roof, they claimed not to be able to localize the source of the leak, and therefore proposed to charge over $3200 to remove an extensive area of shingles to diagnose and repair this leak, and wouldn't be able to get to the repair for at least a month. I solicited and received a second opinion from another trusted local provider, who quickly diagnosed and repaired the leak, as he had done once before on a different portion of the roof, for a total bill if $85, or 2% of Ken's (verbal) estimate. Thus I would conclude, once again, "Methinks not." read more

Ken Cooper's phenomenal team finished replacing roof, gutters, and downspouts on Friday. The crew worked ferociously to get the work done (and right) in just 3 days between storms. Despite the fact we are just one house among the many they work on each year, while they worked on the house it was clear we were their primary focus. The foreman did a great job problem-solving and Ken went waaaaaay beyond the extra mile to make up for a mess-up I'd made during the bidding process. The crew was punctual, polite, and focused. The warranties are above average, with good materials. The final inspection was a snap yesterday -- the inspector even shared it always what he finds with this roofing company. We had Ken Cooper roofing come out for an estimate on replacing the roof of our home. I had mentioned during our meeting that our schedule was flexible in terms of time frame to the gentleman who met with me. We are looking to get a new roof put on sometime before mid-summer. It's currently January. About a week later I received an email from Kyle stating that they were going to be busy for the next month "on a big commercial job" and that they wouldn't even be sending me an estimate. In a nut shell, they stated that they weren't interested because they had bigger fish (more $$$) to fry. After meeting and getting 6 estimates from various roofers, ranging from small companies to GAF certified contractors, I chose Ken Cooper Roofing & Gutter Systems for the following reasons: 1. Their price is in the mid range. Lower tha some other GAF contractors. 2. They give a 25 years warranty on their workmanship vs. 5 years from most others. 3. They are a GAF MasterElite roofer which gives me a lot of confidence. They also offer the GAF Golden Pledge Lifetime Warranty which I want. 4. Ken, the owner, came out himself and supervised the whole project; they are a family-run business and have a personal touch in talking and doing business, unlike some other companies that send out salespersons who only want to close the deal, no matter what. Ken is open, straight-up, easy to talk to and no hard sell. The new roof was completed last week in a bit over 2 days. The whole experience is nothing short of easy, assuring, and professional. His crew is courteous, hard-working and quiet. They are also very good in cleaning after themselves, twice a day--before going to lunch and at the end of the day. I've watched the crew's work and I can tell they are seasoned pros. Ken told me their foreman has been with the company for over 15 years. I've asked him questions on some of the work they are doing and he took time to explain everything to me. I do get a sense of dedication and pride they give to their work.
