I brought my 2001 car and key to Able Lockshop after struggling for weeks. The key had become so worn down that it barely turned in the ignition -- sometimes I'd have to try five or six times or flip the key around just to get the car started. After months of erroneous information including another locksmith's assertion that the backset wasn't standard, and a big box door store asking $28,000 to replace the door and lock, I learned all I could about mortise locks, and after trial and error, finally located the correct Marks mortise lock to replace the original broken 60 year old one. Martin from Able installed it in thirty minutes, even changing it from LH sent in error to RH, and got everything working including the thumblatch on the front of the entryset hardware. No more nightmares about anyone accidentally getting locked out (I had a temporary knob to knob in there that of course didn't work with the thumb latch). I had them replace my vehicle key (transponder quit). They did a great job with programming a (very expensive) key. I was so focused on that, I forgot to try the actual physical key in the lock. It started the car no problem so I didn't even think to do it. A week later it dawned on me to try it out. Turns out it didn't work. I go back to the place to get it rectified. Such a wonderful experience! I had an emergency call because my storm door wouldn't unlock. We walked in and got our keys made in less than two minutes. It was wonderful. The keys worked great when we tried them out. The staff were really nice and even put on those fickle key covers when we asked. They do not having a parking lot but there is metered parking on the side block. It's a tiny store and can get a bit cramped if there's a lot of people but there's no reason to spend a lot of time there so it should be fine. They also sell all sorts of safes and locks for your personal security needs. Give them a go! read more
