There were multiple units being worked on in our area so our complex & parking lot was strewn with construction debris, nails, falling pieces of wood while they worked on roofing, etc. I lost count of how many nails got stuck in my tire. The worst part was when they did glass work and the glass SHATTERED all over the unit during the removal process early in the morning. I was finding chunks of glass months later. There was no apology, no contact from management. Just a MESS. The absolute most unprofessional construction company I've ever come across. It is unfortunate that as renters we don't have a choice as to who gets hired to do work on our place of residence. I assume they are one of the more affordable options because my complex is known to hire the cheapest possible labor (eye roll) - but if YOU have the choice please save yourself the trouble & steer clear.

Before moving in, I found construction defects, damage to personal property, they completely missed items on the scope causing breach of contact, had to replace plumbing fixtures but never submitted a change order, and dozens more. I don't think the insurance company is aware they've been charged for items Mcleod SKIPPED or multiple items added (ex: the scope says to paint window trim in the Entry but there is no window trim). After moving in I discovered multiple fire hazards, plumbing issues, handles were uneven or partially unscrewed, dirt and debris in the new cabinets and drawers, equipment left behind, and so much more. Because of the safety hazards and multiple construction issues- I filed a complaint with L&I and contacted the city permitting office. They are receiving a violation from L&I for doing electrical without a permit and for not obtaining a building permit. They did not apply for a permit until Aug 2025- TWO months AFTER we moved back in. IT'S BEEN OVER 365 DAYS SINCE REPAIRS STARTED AND THE PERMIT IS STILL NOT APPROVED!

The first group of Uniplex guys that did the emergency clean up/board up were friendly and I thought the board up was done nicely. Then it went downhill from there. We waited months for a permit. We kept asking for an update and were told it was all submitted and permit should be ready any day. The blame was put on the city, so we continued to be patient. Finally one day, I decided to call the city myself and see if I could speed things along. Turns out, the ball was not rolling at all. The city has specific instructions when applying for the permit, the contractor and the engineer they chose (both to blame) did not follow the instructions and never replied to an email from someone in the permit office. So the permit delay was all on them, not the city. When asked about this or any other issue, there was always some elaborate excuse trying to shift blame. They were cutting corners, for example replacing part of the basement wall when insurance had approved full replacement of wall. In an earlier walk through talking about what would be done with our insurance agent and their guy, it was agreed whole basement wall would be replaced but when the work was being done and I saw it was only about half being replaced, I questioned it and they denied ever saying whole wall would be replaced. They didn't even put up plastic to stop the spread of dust from old cinderblocks being sawed into until I asked them about it (after days of dust spreading throughout the home). Then when we had questions about a billing charge, it would be ignored. We brought up errors in the billing and they were unwilling to even discuss it. Our insurance adjuster was kind enough to try and help us by contacting them and mediate a discussion. She should not have had to do that but just shows how difficult they were to work with. 2 stars only because the initial response was good and for the most part stuck to a schedule once the permit was actually submitted properly & approved. However after that, seemed dishonest and shady once we started questioning their work and billing for things that weren't done. I would not recommend them.

Though it's the busy season for them, Reed, the proprietor, was able to schedule me in within a few weeks of my initial inquiry. After discussing the job on the phone I felt confident I had the right contractor when he said he would stop by to actually see the job first. It helped that I'm local too. The job itself...remove the floating laminate floor to the point of the bad board and replace (I had plenty of extra new boards on hand). Reed had Chris S. do the job with Reed being on hand to assist/advise as needed. Chris was awesome, arrived on time, and really did a nice clean job. Sure it helped that the existing boards, other then the bad board, were in great shape to more easily lift and put back. I got lucky there. But still, there were some tough parts of the job that, because of the expertise, were handled smartly and efficiently. Chris worked very cleanly through the end. Both are real nice guys too. Like I said, I don't give out 5 out of 5 stars easily but Carlson Construction did everything I asked in a fantastic manner, on time, within budget. They installed a brand new metal roof for us Jan 2019 and it has leaked ever since. They also left…read morea huge mess of debris at the property. They will not honor their 5 year warranty. They already have several lawsuits out and their license has been suspended. I wish they would come fix this roof. I am devastated. Other roofers who have looked at it since have advised completely tearing it off and starting over because it was installed incorrectly, which I really can't afford to do. Now they won't return my phone calls or emails. Super sucks, but I guess I'll have to sue as well. :(

We heard from the son of one of our neighbors about a guy who did his deck, who was reasonable and ethical. We contact Northwest Custom Deck and set an appointment with him within the week. Chris, the owner, met with us and thoroughly discussed what we wanted and how he worked, giving us realistic ideas of what to expect and a very reasonable quote compared with others we'd obtained. We told Chris about our previous nightmare experiences with contractors, and he was very reassuring about his company and workers. Six weeks later, work began. It took two weeks from start to finish, which included taking a 6-foot fireplace monstrosity down, building the joist (the bones or framework) for the deck, laying the decking meticulously including the "picture frame" , building two stair sets and installing them, and then completing the railing. Chris' design for our deck was beautiful, and he made suggestions along the way for us, completely explaining everything. His work crew, Spencer and Sam, were diligent, meticulous, polite and clean. They were easy to have working on our back deck right outside the windows. They also redid some poor construction done on the original decking that left the deck unlevel, restoring it to building code standards. We could not be happier!!! The design, the workmanship, the communication, and the final product. A 16" x 36" deck, is everything we hoped for. Our next-door neighbors liked the deck so much they hired him to expand their deck. I really can't recommend this company highly enough! These days, it's rare to run into a company that cares so much about their workmanship and charges reasonable prices.

We set up a time and date to get started and payment plans were set up . 10 % was giving first then when it was time for supplies 50% of of the balance and the last was done when the job was completed .
