Ever since my passion for thrifting was reawakened last year, I've been researching and visiting…read morethrift stores in the Seattle and surrounding areas when I can. When I pulled up to Mercer Island thrift shop, there were women standing outside chatting with their hauls so I knew it would be a fun place to browse. Ultimately I found a beautiful clutch with its dustbag that I was happy to buy. I'm sure this doesn't usually happen, but the register glitched when I was checking out, and after a long wait involving the supervisor and multiple attempts to fix an overcharge, I was free to go home with this beautiful bag in pristine condition that I later found was 90% off original retail. Not all the prices are this generous, but I was generally astonished at some of the things that were donated to be sold here, and taking the time to carefully browse, stack color tag discounts, and simply being patient with staff can get you pretty far!

And many out of state as well!…read moreThis store has a boutique vibe when you walk in with the way the displays are set up for the Knick-knacks that is cute and inviting if you don't experience overstimulation but once you get beyond that, it seems they have overpriced a lot of the clothing and other items that seems to keep merchandise from moving effectively. I went on a holiday where the parking lot was packed with street parking full as well. I didn't see people with loads of things they were buying. For instance, an older genuine leather credit card and checkbook holder (I.e. not a complete wallet) was priced at $20. Used David's Bridal formals at $60-$80. Keep in mind that any used formal will need to be cleaned before wearing, which adds to the price of buying a used dress. David's Bridal sells bridesmaids dresses with two different webpages on their website. Dresses under $100 and Dresses under $70. I drove to this store specifically because I'd heard they had quality things at good prices and my daughter was hoping to find a formal dress. While I did find most of their books reasonably priced, I won't take the time to go back.

There are so many interesting, vintage, and funky finds at Red Light, I could browse for a solid…read morehour! Their racks of women's clothing are organized by category and color, not necessarily by size. In the back lining the walls are dresses from every decade starting from the 1920's, ranging from kitschy to wedding-appropriate. They also have a large collection of Leg Avenue tights and lingerie (non-refundable), fashion glasses and sunglasses at the front, hats belts socks and other accessories near the middle, shoes of all kinds topping the racks, and a variety of hair clips and other ornaments behind the counter. This would be a great place to shop for parties, statement pieces, and Halloween (and of course everyday wear if it fits your aesthetic)! Their prices reflect the uniqueness of the clothes and range from around $10-$80. It's always so much fun to browse regardless of whether I buy anything! The staff are very helpful and laid back. Their buying policy is understandably strict (they are picky in which items they accept). It is generally busy but not crowded and I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes for a dressing room - there are around 5 of them, each with a cap of 5 items. Red Light is a treasure trove of eclectic finds and definitely worth a visit when thrift shopping on the Ave!

No explanation why and no official area.... just expected me to leave my boba tea I just bought and was enjoying on a stroll on the floor by the front door unattended?!!??? Heck to the no. This store used to be good with friendly employees over 2 years ago. Over 2 years ago! Bought an amazing skirt for $4 I still love to this day. Now for the last two years I've only been in a few times since the service is always notably rude, prices have gone up, and again the customer service is rude as heck. Why in the world would I leave my boba tea unattended near the floor by the entrance when told to by a rude ahh employee? Laughable. The employees here are the huge problem driving the customers away along with the overpriced items they sell now. Some dark and negative energy here y'all! Maybe they have everything on sale right now due to the lack of customers?? Sure not helping get anyone in the door with the weird new drink at the front thing and employees bad attitudes and stank faces. I'll take my business, time, and energy elsewhere and suggest all do the same!!!!! Tami M left a very informative and honest review as well here that should be read. Hopefully the employees can find a job they actually like and learn clear communication, professionalism, kindness, and smiles is simple.

I was greeted by a nice friendly man who gave me some info about the place and pointed out that the majority of the items are in the back rooms. This place is deceptively large. It's a bit messy in the back but there is a little bit of everything here. He also told me some items were new and didn't have prices on them but to ask if I wanted to know. I'd rather have items labeled so I can see if it's a good deal or not. I hate to ask each time I look at an item. Overall, it's a small business in a sus part of Seattle that frankly needs some more legitimate businesses. I even found a cool little Squidward stuffie that I purchased. I'll be back one day to check it out again.

As you walk through the store there is a room which often has 90's jams on. This room has more clothing and on the left side there are kids toys and sometimes bikes. It does feel like an estate sale/goodwill outlet vibe as some things are organized but also kinda random. The layout reminds me of a flea market in an another country. Unlike Out of the Closet and Lifelong in which you know the exact price of a record or a vintage binocular here you have to ask. I think this is part of the thrill of the search but also asking yourself how much you want to pay for this. Service is good and staff are chill and laid back. If you're around Lake city I would encourage stopping in. It's a nice refresher from the dated xxx shop next door, drug deals happening outside, and fentanyl slumps you see.
