Acoya Shea has been a wonderful transition spot for my mom over the last couple of months…read more.. We were impressed with it from our initial tour. The staff have always been friendly and helpful and the residents genuinely love living here. There is a variety of daily activities for those that want to participate, quality food onsite (all meals included), and plenty of additional amenities that help make living here super convenient. It's also a great location just east of Scottsdale on Shea. The apartments themselves are a great size and the entire facility is clean and vibrant. I'm not sure if this will be "home" for the long term for my mom, but it has been perfect for the time being.

Yesterday, I went to visit them and have lunch with them at their facility's restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I marveled at how new and beautiful everything looked. There was even a slight smell of fresh paint to add to the newness. The decor in the lobby was gorgeous and upscale, with high ceilings, inventive light fixtures, and lots of seating. The restaurant offers sit-down service. They have daily specials and a soup of the day. They had a good variety of sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts for lunch. The brownie was my favorite part of the meal. It was decadent! This facility allows for small pets. There is a dog run area outside. There's also a heated pool and a gorgeous seating area outside with a large television mounted on the wall. My friend showed me the activity schedule. They offer many fitness and enrichment classes, such as art classes in the art studio. There are also bridge, rummikub, and mahjong groups that meet on a regular basis. This facility is not yet at 100% capacity. I would definitely recommend booking a tour if you are in the market for retirement living, assisted living, or memory care.

Bruce listened to my wife's concerns about her dad and her wishes, and Bruce scheduled Hospice homes to visit within 24 hours. My wife, my father in law and I have been very happy with the Hospice home placement and because of the Hospice home my father in law is still alive and doing okay, that was 5 months ago. We know my father in-law is on borrowed time at this point but he is happy in the hospice home and that is what matters most to us. Bruce & Debs continued connection after the placement has been great, they see my father in law at least a few times a month. I cannot say enough about Bruce & Deb but if you need placement of a loved one, call Bruce & Deb with the Scottsdale CarePatrol they offer unparalleled service, communication, compassion, and giving at a time when it is needed for your loved ones care and dignity. Even after we decided on a place for my brother, Deb continued to be in contact with us and let us know how he was doing. Andara Senior Living Community July 12, 2026…read moreAn Independent, Assisted Living, Memory Care Community What drew me here and what keeps me here!!! Covid changed the direction of my life and became the catalyst for my move to Scottsdale, Arizona. My son, who lives in north Phoenix, invited me to come and stay with him and his family for a couple weeks after my bout with Covid. I took him up on the invitation, but little did I know that he had an ulterior motive. He and my other son had seen the effects of Covid on me physically. Consequently, he felt I needed to reassess my life and my future. And that is where my story begins. I came to Andara, not willingly, but with a caveat. I would try Andara for a month and if I was unhappy with my circumstances, I would return to California and continue life there. Well, one month led to another and so on and nearly five years later, I am still here. When I was staying with my son, he brought up the subject of all inclusive Senior communities, that is communities that included food, utilities, housekeeping, internet, television, just about everything that you would incur living on your own plus activities to keep you engaged most of your day and assisted living if need be. We followed that conversation with visits to six communities and frankly I was not taken with any community other than Andara, which we visited twice. What struck me about Andara was its ambiance. It was appointed nicely from the outside, but what made a significant impression on me, was the lobby area adorned with a beautiful chandelier, curved staircases, one on each side of the lobby to the second floor and a huge fireplace that could be seen visually from the lobby into the dining room. It was like a scene from the movie, Titanic. That impression was lasting. There were other features of the community, such as a library, card room, several areas for socialization and so on. The residents and staff were very friendly. The apartment I chose was very nice. After two weeks of considering what was best, I picked Andara. However, not without trepidation and the ability to leave Andara, knowing there was a thirty-day clause allowing for that possibility. Today, almost five years later, Andara is a thriving community and home to Independent residents, Assisted Living residents and Memory Care. Approximately 160 residents call Andara their home. Nestled quietly off Via Linda, just a stone's throw from Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd., it is close to all necessary shopping as well as eateries, banking, doctors, entertainment etc. Yet, its location provides a sense of serenity from the hustle and bustle that is normal everyday living. Residents hail from every part of the United States. They have brought their talents, personalities and heritage to a community where residents are considered number one. Their backgrounds have provided so much to Andara's feeling of openness, acceptance and true fellowship. I can talk about a vibrant activity program that meets the demands of most of our residents. Whether it is a craft activity in the Art studio, playing Poker in the Card room or Mahjong in Bogarts or the Record room, physical fitness classes in the fitness room or gym, Drum fit in the fitness room, water aerobics in the pool, movies in the theater, weekly speakers, religious services, monthly men and women luncheons, board games, puzzles, brunches on special occasions, book club, Happy hour highlighting entertainment for residents, outside events, you name it and we most likely have it. How about the dining room and kitchen! They are open to serve our residents from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day with breakfast, lunch or dinner and in between and the food offerings are plentiful. Topping that, we are so fortunate to have a Chef with unparallel experience in the kitchen who is intent on making our dining experience memorable every day. Resident Services are extremely important for our residents, and we are blessed to have a Director of Resident Services who is working hand in hand with residents and through care givers and Med Techs to provide the best level of service for our Assisted living and Memory Care residents. She is driven, focused and very caring. Now, I want to talk about the management team at Andara. The Executive Director of Andara has surrounded herself with a staff of professionals that enjoy what they do and take their responsibilities seriously with care and empathy for all our residents. Like anything in life, Andara is not without its problems. The community is a microcosm of what we all bring to its doors each day. Sure, there will be days of frustration for some, days of sadness for others, days where we wish we were back in our former surroundings, days that seem unsettling, but like I said previously, our residents are our most important asset and that is what keeps me here among other assets. Andara is my home and it has been a great blessing in so many ways. Mike Rivera, Resident, 11-108.

Our family was very concerned by a recent billing change at Lone Mountain Memory Care. At the same…read moretime medication management was reduced -- largely because of increased family involvement and oversight -- the facility changed its care-level algorithm and moved my mother from a Level 2 to a Level 3, resulting in an increase of about $600 per month. We visit two to three times per week and regularly monitor things like bedding, garbage, laundry, and overall care needs. Because of this close involvement, we were surprised to see such a significant increase tied to a reassessment of her care level. From our perspective, the timing and process were frustrating and felt financially driven rather than clearly tied to a meaningful increase in care needs. Families considering memory care should ask detailed questions about how care levels are assessed, how often pricing algorithms change, and how those changes can affect monthly costs.

This was also the assessment of the Lone Mountain when they met with our mom and the physical therapy team prior to her move in. After visiting multiple facilities in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area, we chose Lone Mountain Memory Care based their promise of good care. Our mother was there for only eight days before we had to take her back to the hospital. She fell multiple times while in the care of Lone Mountain Memory Care. During the time there, we had to make multiple trips and phone calls to the team to follow up and make check-in calls which were promised. With these additional falls and not getting the early medical help she required, this led to her passing. They did not have the staff to follow proper procedures and contact the appropriate medical professionals in a timely manner. Lone Mountain Memory Care could not fulfill their care commitment and proper follow-through with medical escalation procedures. We met with the Director, and we outlined the situation and requested our deposit back of $5,000 for her eight-day stay. We would complete the month's rent and were given good assurances our deposit would be returned. After many phone calls to the facility, some 30 days later, we were informed we would not receive a return of the deposit. In short, ask a lot of questions and get a firm understanding on their policies and procedures. They will over promise and underdeliver.

We chose Vi at Grayhawk because of the outstanding ranking of their health care unit and the warmth of the residents in the community. We attended several "meet the residents" marketing events. They provided a recommendation for an excellent mover, and put us in touch with a relocation specialist who drew a floor plan to advise which pieces of furniture would fit in our new space. This experience has been much better than we could have expected. The staff is overwhelmingly kind and responsive, the food is delicious (two dining spaces, one formal and one casual) and we are so comfortable in our beautiful apartment. We're thrilled to be at Vi at Grayhawk.
