We chose Vi at Grayhawk because of the outstanding ranking of their health care unit and the warmth of the residents in the community. We attended several "meet the residents" marketing events. Our transition has been flawless. We sold our home very quickly, before the total renovation of our apartment was completed so the sales team at Vi provided housing for us for 5 weeks and absorbed the cost of storage of our furniture. They provided a recommendation for an excellent mover, and put us in touch with a relocation specialist who drew a floor plan to advise which pieces of furniture would fit in our new space. This experience has been much better than we could have expected. The staff is overwhelmingly kind and responsive, the food is delicious (two dining spaces, one formal and one casual) and we are so comfortable in our beautiful apartment. We're thrilled to be at Vi at Grayhawk.

We were greeted by Wesley Wilkins who provided us with a tour and as we moved throughout the building, Wesley knew all the residents that we came in contact with as well as employees. You could tell he really enjoys his job and every employee we talk with had a smile on their face. The entire building had a wonderful vibe and the residence we interacted with were so welcoming and friendly. We feel confident that if any emergency or care is needed, Mom is in the right place. We visit two to three times per week and regularly monitor things like bedding, garbage, laundry, and overall care needs. Because of this close involvement, we were surprised to see such a significant increase tied to a reassessment of her care level. From our perspective, the timing and process were frustrating and felt financially driven rather than clearly tied to a meaningful increase in care needs. Families considering memory care should ask detailed questions about how care levels are assessed, how often pricing algorithms change, and how those changes can affect monthly costs.

RED FLAG - Mom had fallen and fractured her pelvis. After a hospital and physical therapy stay, we…read moreknew she needed around-the-clock care. This was also the assessment of the Lone Mountain when they met with our mom and the physical therapy team prior to her move in. After visiting multiple facilities in the Scottsdale and Phoenix area, we chose Lone Mountain Memory Care based their promise of good care. Our mother was there for only eight days before we had to take her back to the hospital. She fell multiple times while in the care of Lone Mountain Memory Care. During the time there, we had to make multiple trips and phone calls to the team to follow up and make check-in calls which were promised. With these additional falls and not getting the early medical help she required, this led to her passing. They did not have the staff to follow proper procedures and contact the appropriate medical professionals in a timely manner. Lone Mountain Memory Care could not fulfill their care commitment and proper follow-through with medical escalation procedures. We met with the Director, and we outlined the situation and requested our deposit back of $5,000 for her eight-day stay. We would complete the month's rent and were given good assurances our deposit would be returned. After many phone calls to the facility, some 30 days later, we were informed we would not receive a return of the deposit. In short, ask a lot of questions and get a firm understanding on their policies and procedures. They will over promise and underdeliver.

Bruce listened to my wife's concerns about her dad and her wishes, and Bruce scheduled Hospice homes to visit within 24 hours. My wife, my father in law and I have been very happy with the Hospice home placement and because of the Hospice home my father in law is still alive and doing okay, that was 5 months ago. We know my father in-law is on borrowed time at this point but he is happy in the hospice home and that is what matters most to us. Bruce & Debs continued connection after the placement has been great, they see my father in law at least a few times a month. She moved in to a beautiful apartment with assisted living services. The food started out reasonable and went downhill by the third month. I don't know what happened. The care givers were marginal at best. But most importantly, they do tell you in the contract that if they deem your loved one needs to be moved to the LOCK DOWN memory care facility with tiny bedroom and bath only, they have the right to make that decision. You assume when you sign that that they only do that when the resident has dementia and exhibits dangerous behaviors like wandering out doors, or not being able to verbalize their needs anymore or is aggressive. None of those descriptions fits my mom. What they don't tell you is that after paying a $15,000 move in fee for a beautiful apartment, they will move your loved one, who does not have dementia, to the lock down memory care unit for falling and going to the hospital. So be very careful in considering this place. No place I talked to, which was close to 15, said it is appropriate to lock someone in a memory care unit when they don't have dementia. I would recommend Manor Village. It was one of the places we considered after leaving Clearwater after only being there three months. They are family owned, have a passionate chef who meets every week with the residents and way lower move in fees. Take a careful look at the ownership of Clearwater. Our invoices were from Berkshire not Clearwater. I learned a lot in this experience. Be very careful. Private equity is getting in to senior care and it's becoming all about profits. Know the ownership.
