This is one of the best decisions I have yet made in my life. Choosing the Beatitudes Campus of Care was easy. Compared to other places I visited, which were perhaps newer and more " modern, " the minute I walked into the Beatitudes, I felt its soul and incredible vibrancy. I moved in when I was 62. My wife at the time was 67 years old. I've been a resident here for about 5 years and I absolutely love it. The price depends on the type of unit you rent. It can range from ABOUT $1500 to $5000. They have studios up to full sized patio homes. The unit we are in is only a couple of hundred dollars more than we were paying to maintain our own home, and A LOT easier. They provide housekeeping, meals, lawn service, 24 hour security, repairs, DirecTV, telephone all utilities and internet. We were even able to sell our car. They provide most of our transportation, and all for no extra cost. There is several specialty medical offices here, a bar, and two beauty parlors, although those have an extra charge. Most activities are resident-driven. While there are scheduled activities, you are never required to attend. Music is a huge part of life on The Campus. I moved to the Beatitudes Campus in July 2023 and am completely happy with my experience. The staff are outstanding: the move-in coordinator, the dining staff (servers and cooks), fitness staff, various facilitators, maintenance and cleaners. All are knowledgeable, well-trained, helpful, and kind. Residents are friendly and welcoming. My two-bedroom apartment is well-equipped and comfortable. A visiting friend is very impressed by my situation. There is bus service to medical appointments, grocery shopping, symphony concerts, and other off-campus activities. My Mother moved in here almost a year and a half ago and just loves it. So needless to say so do I. My mom is in her 80's and living in an apartment independently. The cleaning service does a great job and her unit is fresh and bright and lovely! One of the things she enjoys most is the variety of options available to her. Let's start with food. There's the Bistro, Buckwalds and Elaine's. there's also a Starbucks. Crazy. The food is always fresh, and very tasty. I eat here quite often and like all the establishments as well. Try the baseball cut sirloin at Buckwalds and the chicken salad at the Bistro. The halibut and lobster are the go tos at Elaine's. On top of food there's activities. There's soooooooo many I can't list them all. They have bridge and music and socials and trips and yadda yadda. Pick and choose at your leisure. My Mom also belongs to the garden club. She can grow her own stuff and all of the gardeners share their bounty with those in their buildings. What a bonus you don't have to garden to get stuff. Outstanding! Finding a welcome, safe engaging independent living apartment for my 91 year old dad in the middle of a pandemic was a challenge I was not prepared for. Several of our friends had had family living at the Beatitudes Campus and all raved about the entire experience. These recommendations set a very high bar to live up to. You know what? The Beatitudes Campus staff and facilities met and exceeded all our expectations, but most importantly my dad's! At every step of the process the friendly, talented and skilled staff provided incredible options, service and answers. Dad moved to the Beatitudes from living with family. This transition is incredibly stressful even when you aren't concerned about a spreading pandemic. We really trust that dad is being very well taken care of. They have a few different living options for independent residents. In addition they have an assisted living and a memory care areas. I have known some staff and caregivers at this facility dutiful and dedicated to their elder charges. The management is another story so I don't recommend thu I cannot stress enough that if a family member blocks ways for you to help your parent in a nursing home despite the fact your parent has relied upon you for many years be prepared to face heartbreak. Not working with my brother the guardian to insist he inform bedside daughters of drug induced coma and death as imminent the facility, hospice and guardian acted unethically, immorally. My family members with me bedside never got to hear our mothers voice again and have no idea why this haste happened. This is a horrible experience I will have to live with and in writing this review no one has answered truthfully in my mother's wishes that this would be what she desired, I don't wish to see anyone go thru something like this. Avoid this nursing home is a solution. read more

I've heard great things about the beatitudes. However, trying to get a friend placed there has been less than a pleasant experience. There is a real problem with communication when it comes to finding out what the situation is when it comes to the staff at the Beatitudes. It finally took a phone call from another nursing facility to find out they were not going to accept my friend. I have to wonder why they couldn't have told me directly. There were other places I could have been investigating and would have sooner. Also, when they decide to not accept a person they immediately destroy all the paperwork involved so don't expect to get any reason why. This is information that could help a person with other placement. I ended up in the hospital on Thanksgiving. While I was waiting for an MRI at 4 in the morning, I got to talking to the technician. I mentioned having a friend who is in assisted living and how I was trying to place her someplace permanently. I asked her directly what it was like when it came to bringing in residents from the Beatitudes for testing. Ever seen a person ready to scream when they want to and can't. There was complete silence for about a minute. The person told me that he/she could be fired for what he/she was going to tell me but she did not care. If a patient was scheduled from the beatitudes for testing it was common knowledge that they might or might not arrive at the proper time. When the technician would finally have to call the Beatitudes concerning the person who hadn't arrive, one got the very clear impression that if the person got there or not was really of no great importance. As I said before, I had heard great things about the Beatitudes. This was my experience. read more

A friend recently moved into The Beatitudes. I have dealt with many facilities as a registered nurse but this is, by far, the best!. I imagine people who contact Beatitudes have a variety of reasons depending on their situation. So I anticipate that bad reviews will happen in any such facility (dealing with a lot of emotional situations) but I have zero complaints about Beatitudes and only the highest praise for how they manage their community. My father moved in to the community (non-assisted living) last year and couldn't be happier. The staff is awesome, food pretty good (I've easten there a few times), more activities than you could ever attend, and the campus is always clean and inviting. Visited Beatitudes Campus today with a couple of my colleagues to spend time with two residents, decorate mini Christmas trees and bring a few gifts. We were only there for a couple of hours, but the campus was lovely with many amenities, and the residents we got to visit with were amazing people who appeared to be very happy with the campus! There were multiple bedbug reports in December alone. Well acquainted with a recent employee. This person took his uniform and shoes off in the garage as to not bring them into the house. Photos were taken, but they were on the work phone, so not able to post at this time. Hoping someone with morals will forward them to me as proof. A cocktail lounge on The Beatitudes Campus ... who'd a thunk?! The truth is - that cocktail lounge is just one of the amenities at the Promenade that's making my parents' transition to an assisted living community far more palatable. No - my parents aren't big drinkers! They're just regular people like you and I who have enjoyed the good life, but can't get around and socialize the way they did when they were living in the foothills of Tucson, near their alma mater and fellow Wildcat alums. Life at 80 and 84 isn't easy for my parents, or their six adult children who are watching them age very quickly. But life happens, and when it does, it's nice to know that places like the Promenade exist. My parents invited me and my siblings to a night on the town yesterday, but within the boundaries of the Promenade community. We had drinks in the cocktail lounge, watched the D-Backs on a big screen, and then moved into Elaine's restaurant for a fine dining experience. Maybe it was the beer followed by two glasses of wine, but I must say, I totally forgot that we were enjoying ourselves on The Beatitudes Campus. If you're a boomer with aging parents who can't bear the thought of giving up their independence but should - check out the Promenade. The community is filled with residents who no doubt felt the same, but are now adjusting to and enjoying life in a community where they are meeting new friends, socializing and staying active, but in a setting that ensures they are well cared for when the need arises. (BONUS YELP: My mom says the staff is friendly, attentive and helpful ... and that's saying a lot considering the "squeaky wheel" reputation my Mom wears like a badge of honor.) read more

My mom lived independent living and then had an episode which required skilled nursing. When they gave us a dismissal date, they suddenly and without compassion moved the date closer by 4 days. They said she was "hitting her marks" and couldn't stay...which gave us even less time to find her another place to live. She had little nourishment and no energy, so how could she be "hitting her marks"? Beatitudes didn't care; they just wanted her out. They didn't listen to reality or examine her case from a patient's point of view. Absolutely no compassion (and the food is bad as well). read more

My friend's mother is in Beatitudes as a medicaid patient. She has been denied treatment by any M.D., has only a nurse practitioner who is perscribing drugs, while ignoring her medical history. The staff is confrontational, making any visit uncomfortable, and making her mothers life miserable. I do not understand how this institution maintains a decent reputation, while abusing families. Seems to me Jan Brewer entered into the ACA, taking huge money for medicaid...where is the money for the patients??? Do not put your loved ones here. read more

I tried to get information. I visited and waited in the lobby for 45 minutes. I ended up filling out a card and leaving, never to hear from them. A week later, I called and left a message for Assisted Living. No response. Finally, today I called and asked to speak with someone and was forwarded to a woman for AL. I explained that I have been trying to get information, that I am in a difficult situation and need placement, even if it is a waiting list, it is SOMETHING. I asked her to be frank with me because the places I was speaking with were evasive about price and availability and if I have to be put on seven waiting lists, I will, just to have a chance at placement. Her response was that she was going to be frank with me: I am not the only person who has a need. The callousness of her statement was nauseating. I said that I am the only person living my life who has a need, so it matters to me. Then I commented that I can't imagine trying to get answers about my father once he becomes a resident if this is how they treat family. I realized that she was unprofessional, uncompassionate, and likely in the wrong field. I muttered that obviously we weren't compatible with Beatitudes and ended the conversation. I looked deeper into the complaints about The Beatitudes and understood that this is a significant weakness for them. The admission process is miserable and potential residents need to pursue them. How horrible to treat someone that way. The administration should be ashamed that this is acceptable employee behavior. read more

My parents have lived in an independent living unit at the Beatitudes for 3 years. My mother recently passed away. We cared for her in their apartment under hospice and are currently figuring out what level of support my father will need going forward. My experience with the Beatitudes has been excellent throughout these years. The marketing and contract were straightforward and they have acted in good faith at every turn. They spent time with us thoroughly reviewing the contract and answering questions. There are activities to meet many different interests: a gardening club that leaves fresh vegetables in the lobbies, a ceramics studio, fitness classes, occupational therapy classes (balance, breathing), an active community of gamers (bridge, cribbage, poker, etc), special events and parties (brunches at holidays), church services, etc. The staff are wonderful and they have gone out of their way to be responsive at every turn, in small and big ways consistently over the years. Some specific examples include: going out of their way to accommodate a family lunch in a dining area that was not being used that day, lending us a large pot to boil lobsters when we didn't have one that would work, making last minute arrangements for a bus so that other residents could attend my mother's funeral, helping to get the chaplain to visit my mother on Easter Sunday morning, having the occupational therapy team visit my father and make suggestions for how we can support him in this difficult time, etc.... We have used the Beatitudes at Home personal assistant services (private pay) for extra help and they showed up, pitched in and helped out in some very difficult circumstances. The Beatitudes is a long-standing, non-profit, faith-based community and from what I have seen, they are deeply committed to their values. I do not have direct experience with the Assisted Living, Memory Care or Skilled Nursing facilities and am speaking to my experience with Independent Living and the greater campus amenities/staff. read more

My husband and I have lived in the neighborhood for 20+ years and would bring our dogs to the COMMUNITY dog park that is attached to Beattitudes. On several occasions, a Beattitudes resident would go to the Beattitudes gate with his Retriever while we were there. We have 6 dogs, 4 of which we'd bring there for 15-20 minutes, so they could run off some energy. We are both employed and could only go at a certain time of day. Now, i can only assume that the resident is retired and could go any time. It so happens that every time we go, the resident would show up during the 15 minutes we were there. Every time, we would let him know that our dogs did not get along with other dogs and ask if he would come back in 15 minutes. On every occasion, except one, he would comply. On that one occasion, the dogs fought...surprising, I know. Today we went to the COMMUNITY park and he proceeded to try to enter the park AGAIN! Because we reminded him of the fight and let him know AGAIN that we were only asking for 15 minutes, he complained to Beattitudes. Because we asked that he allow us 15 minutes, we were asked by Beattitudes to leave and not come back. We complied, but will be taking this up with the city. It's truly disappointing that our dogs can no longer enjoy their favorite place because a resident of Beattitudes is unwilling to share a space that is supposed to be available to the COMMUNITY. read more

I've lived here in the Promenade at the Beatitudes for 4 years now. I love it. New friends, comfortable apartment, great food, and many, many things to do. I choose what I want to do, when I want to do it, who I want to do it with, and when I want to retreat back into the quiet of my apartment. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. My 93 year old grandfather looked into supportive living and invested $$$ into beautitudes for 2 bedroom + den, which they did not receive. Grandparents had to be put on waiting list and live in a smaller unit, while paying for a larger unit. My grandparents decided beautitudes was not for them and were initially understood that their original invested amount is refundable, after 3 months, minus fees. We now find out, the $$ will only be refunded in 2 years IF beatitudes has the $$ to pay it back. We were told 3 months after move out, the funds would be returned. We are past 3 months and no word on the $$. Be Careful with your loved ones and make sure you have an independent elder representative with your family member when reviewing contracts. Also, the campus & grounds were substandard, not impressive, with gated & taped off old housing on site. read more

We had a friend who was living here. We went to pick him up for an appointment to find him in bed in soiled clothes and sheets. When we asked the nurse why he was in soiled clothes and sheets she said "You don't pay for that kind of service here". If we had not gone to take him to his appointment who knows how long he'd be sitting there for. We had heard AMAZING things about this place, but experienced quite the opposite. How as a human being is it possible to not CARE, to not step up and say 'well his sheets are soiled and he's laying in it, he can't help himself, let's fix this'. No compassion is shown and the superior attitudes shown here from nurses to loved ones is disgusting. Would never recommend this place. read more

My grandmother has been at this campus for about 8 months now. In these eight months we have had to resolve issues more times than I care to mention. It is frustrating to deal with their staff, one person in particular Amy, who is the coordinator. ( I'll be speaking with her superiors soon) She has a superior attitude and if she argues with me who is the family member, I can't imagine how she communicates with the elderly residents. Granny's medication doesn't arrive on time, it takes their pharmacy to deliver high blood pressure meds an entire day, and God forbid it should be on a weekend or holiday then it's 2 days. The transport system is horrible also, they have 2 drivers for 600 residents, ( and the drivers have to be done with their route by 4:30 pm) (Don't we have a high unemployment rate in this country??) and you have to schedule your transport 4 days in advance and coordinate YOUR DOCS APPOINTMENT WITH THE DRIVER'S. SERIOUSLY? Shouldn't it be the other way around?????? In most cases the family member has to take a day off so they can get their loved one in for a routine appt..In case of a last minute appt, there is HO ONE TO HELP...SO EITHER TAKE THE DAY OFF OR HAVE YOUR GRANNY BE IN PAIN FOR 3-4 DAYS UNTIL THEY CAN TRANSPORT HER. This is a glorified dorm, nothing else. THERE IS NO ELDER CARE PROVIDED, IF THERE WAS I WOULDN'T HAVE TO WRITE THIS REVIEW. read more

My mother moved into independent living about 10 years ago. At the age of 91, she lost her sight and needed to move to the assisted living facility they have on campus. The care was very bad. It was difficult for her to see her food, so I stressed time and time to offer finger foods as that was all she could successfully eat. She just wouldn't eat if she could not get the food to her mouth. And the aids would not help at all. They would bring her tray and tell her what was there and leave....we had a camera in the room and it was amazing what we saw. Weekends or holidays, the help know nothing about her! Asked if she wanted a menu!...would not come in her room until 10am sometimes. One day she didn't get any food until 1pm...all this reported to supervisor, but nobody checks on the aids on the floor....so after c/o they just did what they want. Called in alot to tell them to bring her a dinner tray! Several times she wouldn't even get that. She lost 10 pounds in one month. We moved her to a group home who took wonderful care of her. Beware, put a camera in the room, or you will never know about the neglect. read more

My mom recently discharged from health care rehab center for physical therapy. Nurses and social worker were very friendly. Like every place, it has its bad apples. My mom was in a room that I was told was considered a long term stay room and not an actual rehabilitation room. I would often see other nurses running around and staying very busy but my mothers nurse would frequently be a lady who, bless her soul, was only a few years younger than my parents. I know not her fault, however it my mother's care is what I am to look out for and it was definitely noticed in the care my mom got when this nurse was on duty. My family was frequently ignored if she was at the front desk, she would always have a demeanor about her that we were interrupting her phone call or her meal or even just reading the Sunday coupons my sister noticed once. It seemed to be those days my moms pain would be worse and she could never recall getting her medications. My mother is forgetful, but would only say this on this nurses work days. She never really introduced herself so at first I thought it was the other nurse running around busy who was my mother's nurse and felt bad that she was so busy but when I asked her for help, she very politely helped me but did end up escorting me back to this other nurse just sitting there and the nice nurse explained to the elderly nurse I needed help to review my mother's medications. Which we got a "sigh" for from this lady. But just seeing the others work so hard, I still would return to this place. I would just know better now not to accept a bed on a long term room or with this nurse. We toured assisted living and independent living just for future resources, everything was beautiful and everyone was so helpful! You can tell these nurses wear their hearts on their sleeve! The ones running around the most were the ones who never acted as if we were bothering them! read more

The care center needs help. My father has been a resident for over 3 years. They use the term "comfort care" as an umbrella for neglect and abuse. The staff deliberately "lost" Dad's dentures after I habitually arrived to find him eating solid food with his dentures in his room in his medicine cabinet. After requesting a meeting with the ombudsman to discuss replacement, the administrator stated in the meeting "don't waste my time". shortly after I was "written up" for alleging throwing a chart at a window sill on 4th floor (there is no window sill) and was sent a threatening certified letter stating that they would call the police on me if I returned to visit my father. I suffered a heart attack from the abuse. Dad has lost over 35 pounds since his dentures went missing. There famous words are" it's the progression of the disease". I have taken in homemade food for Dad only to find it untouched in the refrigerator 3 days later. One of the Care givers threw dad's bedspread at me and cussed me out in Spanish. I returned last evening to find a male care giver standing over Dad (in his wheelchair) yelling at him with his hands raised as if he were going to strike him. Although The Beatitudes employees some of the very best nurses and care givers, they are unfortunately outnumbered by incompetent and abusive staff and administration. If you complain they simply make up false accusations against the family member and prohibit contact with the family member. This is a very hostile, uncaring environment. Far too many unexplained bruises and cuts. Three abscessed teeth, a result of neglect and lack of personal care. read more

My parents had their own apartment in independent living for 10 years. They took advantage of all the amenities, and had opportunities for a host of activities. There's always something interesting going on. Eventually, it became necessary for them to have a higher level of care. My father is now in Assisted Living and my mother in the Sierra Springs medical unit. Our family maintains close communication with the Beatitudes staff, who are always interested in our questions and concerns, and extremely responsive. They know our parents, all their kids, and some of their grandkids, and always go the extra mile for us whenever we have a request or a question. One thing you'll notice immediately about the Beatitudes is that the grounds and facilities are kept in top-notch condition. It's a beautiful campus. Some people may not think that's so important, but, truly, it makes a difference to how residents and visitors feel. read more
