So I searched for seafood restaurants and selected this place because of the delicious pictures of the menu selections. Also because it said casual dress. We had spent the day exploring Jamestown. The atmosphere was cozy and the wait staff were all dressed so nicely, professional and knowledgeable! The food and cocktails were fantastic! We had shrimp and scallops and hot crab dip that was so delicious!! Our meal started with the best cheese spread and crackers along with delicious rolls! Our server Harris James was so attentive and a sweet sense of humor! Our first trip, not our last! read more

1st and foremost Brandon is the nicest person and best waiter we have ever had. Him alone was worth the trip there. The food was good and fresh and was prepared very well. The cheese and crackers they give you is different but really cool. I look forward to going back there when we return to Williamsburg. read more

This steak house is probably worth checking out. Why only probably? Well because this steak house served good food that was cooked to order and came with your expected sides. Problem is that you can find the same level of food quality if you just went to outback. You're paying more for the dimly lit lights and waiters who have the most impeccable of manners. I can't say that the steaks were the absolute best I ever had and that I might it to be my last meal, no is more like "ok this place serves good steak and has good service maybe we'll come here again" Let's break it down: Food presentation: 4/5 Food quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Basic-ness: 5/5 Overall, nothing too special, just good. Before your food comes out a basket of mixed plastic wrapped crackers and small finger-sized breadsticks are served with a small bowl of cheese similar in taste to solid cheese-wiz. Reminded me of those Nabisco cheese and crackers you'd eat as a child. Then your salad comes out and the kind waiter will come out with 3 different salad dressing options on a small metal revolver and you can choose between ranch, blue cheese, & vinaigrette. (Not bad) finally, Your steaks come with a side that are what you'd expect: fries, baked potato, garlic mashed, or veggies. By the end of the meal you have the option dessert but by then you're very full on cheez wiz, crackers, steak and salad that you can't imagine another bite of anything else. So would I recommend this place? Maybe. Depends who's asking and how much they're willing to spend. If they're looking for an "experience " then sure. read more

This Tuesday the Wife and I joined my Son and Wife at this restaurant to celebrate his Birthday. We were greeted by a friendly Hostess and seated with our son and Daughter-in -Law. My wife ordered the Chicken Cordon Blue, baked potato, broccoli preceded with a nice salad. I had the Shrimp and Scallops Briskae for an Appertiser. My meal consist of the Fried Shrimp and Scallops Trilogy with a baked potato. The dinning area gave off a pleasant atmosphere for enjoying a delicious meal. We had a excellent Server who kept an eye on us to insure we were well taken care of inquiring often if we need anything. We had a great Birthday dinner. I did not have my phone with me for pictures, but in pictures posted by others if you are visiting out town, what the exterior of the building, interior bar/ lounge and dinning area looks like. Thete are also pictures of entrees are also shown. We are residents of this location and have had dinner here before. I highly recommend you try The Aberdeen Barn on Richmond if you desire a nice family outing. read more

Everything about our experience was positive! We made reservations for a small wedding party and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. Our food was excellent and well worth the money. The drinks were excellent. The server was extremely friendly and courteous. The atmosphere was very nice. We would definitely recommend! read more

We had the opportunity of dining at the Aberdeen Barn last evening. We were celebrating some friends' 50th wedding anniversary. From the minute I first called to make a reservation until we left the restaurant, we had nothing but excellent service. The owner was more than willing to deal with our table request, flowers and balloons. Our server, Kyle, was excellent. He was very attentive but not overbearing. Five of the six of us ordered steaks and everyone raved about them. I had fried shrimp which was excellent. We all left feeling extremely satisfied with what we had ordered (the quality of the food and the selections offered on the menu). I would highly recommend Aberdeen Barn. We will all be back! read more

Staying at a resort in Williamsburg and got a coupon for dinner for 2 for $49.95 which included house salad freshly made with salad dressing of your choice on the side. For your entree you had a choice of Maui Maui with shrimp, Prime rib looked like 8 oz. Overinflated the whole plate with gravy cooked how you wanted it or temperature or sirloin steak big enough to cover over 2/3 of the plate. Your vegetable choices were rice, broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes and large baked potatoes which they then bring different toppings for you that you pick out. They also had delicious sweet rolls with butter and barrel cheese with crackers on your table. To finish a delicious dessert included chocolate chip brownie , vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and topped off with hot fudge. This meal was AWESOME David M read more

Food was bland. My New York strip was tough, extremely fatty and lacked any season. Most of the sides were straight out of the can and the stale crackers with cheese wiz were just weird. On top of the awful food, our server was rude, forgot multiple items and then got angry when he had to be reminded on the fourth time about what he forgot. I would highly recommend staying far away from this place. read more

sorry to say the worst meal ever. now we eat all over good food, great food the best food. but the aberdeen barn in williamsburg need to shut their door, service is the pitts. the french (water) onion soup teastless, cheese like bad chewing gum. now i love salad i even hated that also. how can you mess up a salad they did. over priced we took the prime rib home to the dog. when you mess up seafood you have loss me. the reason. they got two stars the cheese and crackers were ok. note the server said he worked there for 32 years, he said he didn't recommend the soup after i told him it was weak. being a waiter for 32 years you should have said so and i would have ordered something else, ok. will not be back. i could have gotten a better meal at red shrimp haha. read more

Was craving a good steak and someone had mentioned this place, so I thought I'd give it a try. I was surprised by the crackers and cheese whiz-type cheese that came out while looking over the menu, instead of the typical bread and butter that most places serve. Rolls did finally come out with the salads. The sirloin was small, and flavorless, and my dining companion's mahi mahi tasted like it had been frozen. The restaurant had a musty (possibly moldy) odor where we were seated in the back, and the lighting was dim, but created more of hide-the-dirt feeling than a relaxing ambiance. For the prices, I expected a lot better. read more

Because I live in New York and because this restaurant is located in Virginia, I am a sad, sad girl. On a family vacation to Virginia last year, we asked the kind people at the front desk of our hotel for restaurant suggestions. Aberdeen Barn was one of them and we happily made our way over there, expecting a good dinner. We got more than a good dinner, we got a GREAT dinner. Before I get into the food, the service was amazing. The wait staff was dressed up, looking all fancy and classy and our waiter was such a gentleman, speaking to us in a formal manner that made us believe we were somewhere other than in an area surrounded by chain restaurants, like Red Lobster and Olive Garden. We started off with the bread basket and complimentary cheese spread before we got our salads with the homemade dressings. I believe a good steakhouse should make all their dressings unique to the restaurant and this was true here. My parents enjoyed their prime rib, declaring it the best they've ever eaten. I said the same about my fried shrimp dinner. I've eaten fried shrimp at most restaurants and steakhouses since I'm not very fond of cow and if I were to pool all the good fried shrimp experiences together into one, this one STILL trumps them all. The shrimp was fresh and NOT butterflied so it still had the crunch of fresh shrimp. The batter wasn't heavy or greasy but just perfectly right. The baked potato was delicious as well, not hard and undercooked or dry and overcooked. My family still talks about this restaurant and it's been over a year! My mom and I are contemplating another Virginia vacation for the sake of eating at Aberdeen Barn again! read more

We got here very late, about 8:30pm and the place was empty. Of course the host asks us if we have a reservation, we don't. He asks if we prefer smoking, non-smoking or first available. What? The whole damn place is available. Not only that, but they stick us in the tiniest corner in the place, so we got to bump chairs all night and struggle to fit all the food on the table. We sit down and they serve an interesting take on dinner bread. They bring out big pretzel sticks with cheese that you would find in those snack cracker packs you used to get as a kid. I was looking for the red plastic stick the whole time. For a place this expensive, i thought this was kind of cheesy, no pun intended. Not a very good beer selection, all your major brews but only 3 craft beers. On to the food. In my opinion, I have had much better steaks for more decent prices. I ordered the Filet Mignon and it was ok, but not worth $26 for a 6 ounce steak. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was also decent, but again not worth the price. It appears this place feasts on out-of-towners that are looking for a nice restaurant in a limited selection of upscale dining in Williamsburg. While the experience was OK, the atmosphere, the food and service did not quite live up to expectations. Keep driving and find a better place, like the Carrot Tree the next time your in Williamsburg. Some may ask, where the cheese at? Patrons of the Barn know it comes with the pretzels. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and it was nice. First, the cheese. They give you a cup of cheese and a bucket of pretzel sticks and crackers. Red stick not included. my boyfriend loved the cold processed cheese but I wasn't a fan. I would've preferred some bread. Call me old fashioned. However, the Barn redeemed itself with its glorious Prime Rib. It was great meat, not seasoned too much, but the au jus was delicious. All in all, a great experience. Attentive service and really great food. Get the prime rib but don't fill up on cheese before it comes! read more

A very nice stop - we didn't feel like waiting for Captain George's line, so tried the Barn. It was not too dark, and not at all greasy or dated like others had suggested. Somehow it managed to be decorated with old barn equipment and still feel slightly upscale while still not making jeans feel under-dressed. Everyone on yelp said the waiter Essam was the best, and I thought "what are the odds he'd be our waiter?" but he was, and they were right. What a classy gentleman! The starter is a creamy spreadable cheddar with sesame sticks and crackers, and then they also bring you bread. My shrimp bisque was just right - very creamy! The salads had their own tri-dressing caddy, as did the toppings for the baked potatoes. His steak was perfect and tasty, and my scallops were good as well, though I wish they had come with a wine-less sauce option. He also enjoyed his local beer "Old Stitch" The Barn is a hidden gem for steak and seafood. We'll be back when we have room for desert! read more

On a trip to Colonial Williamsburg, we expected to be transported back into Colonial times. We did not expect to be transported to the golden age of the steakhouse, however, and that is what happened when we went to Aberdeen Barn! I grew up in the 60s and 70s. Americana and western themes were big back then, as well as port wine cheese and a good honest steak at humble prices. That is what the Barn is all about. The decor is an instant trip back to the early 70s -- wood paneled walls and wagon wheels even!! Have a seat in the leather banquet and be prepared to be instantly presented with breadsticks, individually wrapped club crackers and port wine cheese. This was the type of greeter that we would expect back in the old days. The steak was tasty and cooked properly. The salad came with a choice of salad dressings presented table side, including my favorite: homemade blue cheese dressing. We were served by Angelo, who was proud to tell us that nothing had been changed there in the 29 years that he had worked there. I was happy to hear this, for if it ain't broke, don't fix it!! read more

While visiting Williamsburg, we had our once a week beef night here. We enjoyed it very much. Although the décor is old and the waiters look like old school bartenders, this place has been around long enough to earn it. The staff is friendly and very attentive. They will be at the ready to refill drinks and take orders, and then go away to let you enjoy yourself, something that needs to be taught more in the industry. Our appetizer was their potato skins, and they were great. They quickly fry them before topping the skins and sticking them in the oven. Crispy, cheesy, potatoes, with a great creamy horseradish sauce. They make their own salad dressings, y'all. That is something you normally see in the much higher-end restaurants. My wife's salad had a Raspberry Champagne vinaigrette that I would have drank alone if you put it in a glass. When my son and I ordered Caesar Salads, they asked if we wanted anchovies,,,,,I didn't know anyone bothered with that anymore. They make their Caesar dressing traditionally, with egg in it which is something I miss. If you haven't tried it this way you should. I knew that these people know their cuts of steak when I saw on the menu that they call a bone-in rib-eye by it's proper name, a Delmonico Steak. Without the bone, it's a Rib-Eye. All of our steaks were cooked to absolute perfection. The steaks arrived at our table still sizzling. While the steaks rested we ate the sides of broccoli, which were steamed with that perfect slight crispness still in them, but bright green and tasty. The sear on the outside of the steaks was even, and held the juices nicely. I was literally cutting my Delmonico with a table knife. The beef was flavorful, and as juicy as you can dream of in a steak. I did not order a bar drink, but my wife liked her Mai Tai so much she ordered a second. Yes, you are going to pay a bit more than your average chain steakhouse, but what you get at the Aberdeen Barn is what you are paying for. read more

First, the restaurant is very dark, which I don't care for. Tables are dated a kinda sticky. I had the jumbo shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes and salad. $19.99. Salad was okay, good greens and only one cherry tomato. I asked for no olives but got one anyway. My shrimp was over cooked. I informed the waiter once he finally came back and checked on us and he offered to either bring me new ones or comp my wine. They were also not very seasoned. Potatoes were bland as well. Husband had a steak. Cooked as he ordered and tender but bland. Barn fries were spiced with old bay which he didn't care for. I was also underwhelmed by the cheese wiz-cracker appetizer. They brought rolls a little later but they were like rocks. Overall not a good value for the price. If I'm paying $20 for a meal it better knock my socks off. This place falls very short. On a positive note, the service was pretty good and our waiter was attentive. Just very disappointed in the food. read more

Webiste makes this average, well worn local place look much better than reality. This is our go to indulgence for our trips to Williamsburg. We have only ever had one not so great experience and that was with a hostess who must have been having a bad night. The prime rib here is to die for. You will not find better anywhere. As others describe the decor is very rustic and inside what would appear to be a converted barn. All of the servers are older than what you would normally see in a restaurant which I actually prefer because they are, as one would expect, mature, lovely, and hospitable. We have even been treated to our servers pulling our chairs out for us, and putting our napkins in our laps- that was so cool. The drinks are very expensive and not very strong, but, good. They also sell cigars at the bar if that is your thing. Your water glass is never empty and everyone is attentive to you throughout. You do begin with a basket of pretzel sticks and bread with a ceramic bowl of hard cheddar cheese and butter. The pretzels are hard and sometimes too much for my parents' dentures - lol. But, the rolls are always fresh and yummy. One of my favorite things to get is the seafood bisque; so wonderful. There was once where you could barely taste the sherry and tasted mostly butter so on that occasion it was disappointing, but this has only been once. The salad comes out before your meal and your are offered an array of three or four dressings on a serving tray off which they drizzle on your salad until you say good. The parmesan ranch is our favorite. Then your food comes. Typically they ask if they can watch as you cut in to ensure proper cook which is what anyone serving steak should do. Then prepare to taste a level of yumminess not very common now a day. I always get the prime rid; can't get it better anywhere. We ordered the scallops once or twice and they were the best we have had... my dad also ordered oyster rocker feller and it was very tasty- bacon taste was prominent not like most other oyster rocker fellers I have tried. They serve the prime rib with your choice of mince or paste horseradish and the thing comes out almost hanging over the plate. There can be a bit too much fat from time to time, but the serving size is so big that you don't miss much. For dessert we always get the brownie sundae, perfect finish to a perfect dinner. You have to try it if you are looking to indulge in what a steak house should be like. read more

After making a pretty good journey to Williamsburg Virginia my wife wanted to go to a restaurant to eat. The Aberdeen Barn was where decided to go. The sirloin steak heavy cut wasn't season very well at all. The fourth time will be my last. Decided to give it another try. Prime rib appearance was unappetizing and wrong temperature. When I suggested that they give me a better cut of meat, our server refused. Told me all the cuts were the same. Took it back in and turned it to well done. Not what I ordered. When ordering wine, he asked "what color". Seriously? The prices are that of a fine steak house but the product and service is not. read more

We were staying at The Powhatan Resort and the Concierge gave us a great deal for this restaurant: appetizer, entree, and dessert for $45! We love deals so we were excited to go here and try their food. Everything was EXCELLENT! The onion soup was amazing to say the least. There was a thick layer of cheese on top and the soup itself was very flavorful. I got the New York Strip Steak (delicious) and my boyfriend got the combination plate of scallops, shrimp, and mahi mahi. The scallops were sub-par but the shrimp and mahi mahi were cooked perfectly. For dessert, they have individual brownie and ice cream cups that were the perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant itself is very dark with barn tools all over and wood covers the walls from ceiling to floor. The service was amazing. Classic waiters that are very friendly and professional. Anything you requested, he'd make sure it was done perfectly. read more

I must say this was truly the worst dining experience I've ever had in a long time. While the food was okay, the service here was way below par. Very disappointed. I went there today for the first time & ordered carryout. After I was almost finished with my meal, I pulled out a piece of hair from my mouth tangled in my shrimp. I called to let them know & the person who answered the call gave every excuse as to why that couldn't possibly have happened. I wouldn't have posted a review if I was at least given an apology. No one calls a place to say hair was in their food if it wasn't true. read more

They started us with craclers, "bread" sticks and cheese spread. The cheese spread was definitely straight out of a can. The steak was 2 things: bland, poorly cooked, and over priced, and thin. The service was about as good as my math. Creepy waiter named ron. Strange decor. The chef had the nerve to wear a chefs hat and then serve us garbage. Extremely cocky attitude toward their own food. Ordered oysters, only to find that they had "just ran out". Keep in mind this was 7pm on a saturday. The only redeeming part of the meal was the drinks. read more

Excellent Experience - Nov 15, 2009 We visited the Williamsburg, VA location November 13th and were delighted with the meal and the incredible service from Michael. The meals were delicious and prompt. The meals were very pricey, however, Williamsburg is a tourist town and meals were expensive everywhere. We enjoyed it so much we will definitely go back when we're visiting Williamsburg again. Gluten free aware. It would have been nice to be seated further away from a big crowd of 6 people as we were looking for a quiet, romantic meal (just the two of us), but that's not a big deal. Overall the experience was highlighted by amazing service from Michael. Will recommend to all of our friends and family! read more

This is a must stop when in the area. My crew of four were a little skeptical about the decor when we entered but our reservations went away when we were greeted by our server Ron . He was absolutely fantastic and catered to our every need. Our apps of bacon wrapped scallops (Ron's suggestion) and raw oysters were delish. The entrees of beautiful steaks were cooked to perfection. Big Mike in the kitchen did his thing with the Mac and cheese to the point we had to order two more to go. Big thanks to the well trained and tenured staff we will definitely be back! read more

Came with big party and we were seated right away. Service through out evening was good. Got the prime rib, the shrimp, delmonicos, lobster... Tried it all. Overall it was good and tasty but feel it was over-priced for quality, area and decor. Same cost for a high end steak house in bethesda Md with richer decor. I will say it was a very rich rustic barn decor but it got lost on the leather seats and tables, and chairs on rollers. Would have been better with older more rustic wooden tables and more antique leather chairs n seats... And lose the rollers. So, if decor was more compatible with antique barn look it would have helped. If in Williamsburg, I wd recommend but be prepared for good but slightly over priced by $5-10 per dish read more
