My evaluation of Abercrombie Construction Company: In all fairness, I will evaluate all individuals / sub-contractors I came in contact with individually based on work completed and efficiency. I will then describe what constitutes earning that grade. Robert (Sales Representative): A - Very personable and efficient. He made me feel like he wanted what was best for me and took his time listening to my requests. He then took several measurements of my basement and then gave suggestions on what he would do and why to save on money and time. Drywall guy: B - Did an ok job, but I felt it could have been done in a more efficient manner. An example is after he completed hanging drywall I thought he had enough time that day to then mud and give enough time to dry before coming back the next day to sand. The earliest he showed up to work was 10:00am and some days only put in two hours and was done. He was very personable. Trim guy: A - Older gentleman with "old school" work ethics. He showed up to complete the job at 8:00 sharp. This was the earliest any of the workers showed up to complete work. He stayed until his entire job was complete. Very efficient and did excellent work. Plumber: A - Again, an older gentleman with "old school" work ethics. He had to leave a few times to get extra parts for unanticipated issues. He completed his work within a reasonable timeframe. Carpet installer: D - I was not happy with this guy. A much younger guy showed up at 11:15 to start the job. He had to leave to purchase more glue as he started with a half bucket to do an entire basement. He left the house at 7:05pm. There were many bubbles and a couple creases in the carpet after laying it. He had to come back to fix at least six areas which took another two and a half hours. Ernie Ambercrombie (Company Owner): F - Very rude and inconsiderate. He appears to have quite the temper too. The original estimate was given in February with work to start in June. The sales rep. (Robert) called in May to confirm start date. The start date was pushed back from Monday June 20th to Thursday June 23rd .It was then pushed up to Wednesday June 22nd and actual work did start then at 10:30am with the small demolition of existing drywall. He then told me it would take two weeks to complete the job. I was originally told it would take one week. The final check was given August 1st due to me being out of town for two weeks in July of which he knew was going to happen. Prior to me leaving town on July 5th, he showed up to finalize some things and get paid the balance of what was owed. I have never seen him move so fast to get things done. He was at my house four times that day to get things cleaned up due to not having necessary material to complete the job. When I mentioned the following issues: carpet, a small crack in the wall, connecting of my dryer, connecting of laundry tub, and cutting of tubes for plumbing he was a little heated. I also mentioned to Ernie, that nobody called or showed up the previous Friday. He asked me if someone was supposed to. I answered with "I don't know". That was a wasted day in which he could have been made aware of the issues. Upon his last time leaving and coming back to the house, he told me to have the final check ready for when he comes back. I paid him three quarters of what was owed on the balance due to the issues that still needed fixing. Ernie then said to me "You are just being shitty". I felt he was being very unprofessional with this comment and told him the issues need to be fixed. He repeatedly told me there was a warranty on the carpet. I then told him he would have to have the carpet guy back out after my vacation. He stated the guy would be out on Friday July 22nd. When July 22nd came around, there was no call and no show to fix the carpet issues so on Monday July 25th I stopped in to his office to inquire about when the work was going to be completed. He called a half hour later and told me it would be Tuesday the 26th between 10:00am and 12:00pm. Ernie showed up on Tuesday the 26th at 4:05pm to cut the plastic tubes. I continued to get a calls to pay the balance in full again throughout the remainder of the week. On Friday July 29th, I got a call from Ernie in which he then called me an "A-hole" and threatened to take me to court for the balance. I then told him this conversation was over and hung up on him. The drywall guy finally came on Sunday July 31st to fix the crack in the wall and I paid the balance on August 1st. Over all, I thought the work completed was ok, but many things could have been completed more efficiently. If I had to recommend this company to anyone else I would tell them to stay clear unless they like being called names and being treated with a lot of disrespect by the owner. Hired this company to put in New bathroom for my mother in law so she could get a daily shower. The business owner has not been reliable in getting the job done on a timely basis..had excuses when your trying to get him to finish job ( can't get hold of his workmen)..a bathroom remodel is now 2 1/2 months and still not done for $16,000.would not recommend this company!..very disappointed! read more

Like other reviewers, I did not have any issues with the actual workers or salesmen, but the owner Ernie is extremely cocky and arrogant. I needed to have ONE window installed. One. It took over 4 weeks for the window to come in. When I called his office on a Thursday, the person that I talked to said that the window had come in earlier that week and that I would be contacted to set up the installation date. (well then why didn't they call me when it came in?) I did not receive a call until 4 days later on Monday, and the sales person says, "Hey, great news...your window JUST came in today." (really, I was told it came in last week) He then states that somebody will call me later that day to set up the installation date. Never received a call. So I call back the following day on Tuesday and leave a message. Still no call back. I call back on Wednesday and get Ernie the owner who states that he will "call me later that day" because he was at a job site. Fair enough, I completely understood. No phone call though. It's not until Thursday morning that I get a phone call, telling me that "they will be at my house today". TODAY?!?!. I can't drop everything that I'm doing and already have scheduled. Did he think I was just waiting around at the house all week for him to call and say they were coming over? SERIOUSLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I tell him that I won't be there because I already had previous appointment in another county. So we set it up for the following Monday. The crew shows up the following Monday with no problem. They say that they need to get some additional lumber because of some deteriorating wood. "What do you need?" I ask. "I have some 2x4's in my garage that I am not using. It was exactly what they need, so they continue working using the lumber I provided. The leave around 12 noon (I'm assuming for lunch), but then never come back, and my window is not finished. (my.....ONE.....window) I finally call at around 4:45 (knowing they close at 5 pm) to ask what happened. It turned out, Ernie the owner, pulled the guys from my job to go help out on a larger paying job elsewhere. So I ask, "when are they coming back". "Tomorrow morning." TOMORROW?!?! This is a window in my shower. There is no bare lumber in my shower and therefore cannot be used. This is the only shower in my house. "Well, just put up some plastic so that you can take showers" is what I am told. Hold on. My window has been in your possession now for 2 weeks....the 3 men installing the window couldn't do it in one day (the year prior I had 4 windows installed on my 2nd floor.....and it all happened in one day with 3 workers from another company)....phone calls were not returned as promised...I'm called on the morning that they were planning on coming out and given a difficult time when, like most people, I couldn't be there on the surprise appointment....and now I'm being told that it's going to take 2 days, 2 DAYS, to install just one window? As you can imagine, my rage was excalating. The owner then shows up, and starts yelling at me, saying that, "we were supposed to come out last Thursday, but you cancelled!" NO....you CALLED on Thursday and said you were coming out THAT MORNING. NOBODY waits around in hopes that you will call them that same day to come out. We all have lives and appointments that we have to keep. (his sales person even backed me up on that, but Ernie was hearing non of it). Ernie then gets up in my face and says, "Listen...I'm NOT a Pu$$y....don't think that I'm a Pu$$y." (where did this come from?) My reply, rather loudly, was that he wasn't called that, he was being called on the floor for being unprofessional. My reply, then was that the window better be completed by tomorrow or we'll see each other next in court. The window was finished the following day. I paid the balance of my bill. And I will NEVER use this company for anything again. I am a residential appraiser and I'm asked all the time if there are contractors that I recommend. And his name NEVER comes up. If you want a job done, and don't want any added aggravation, then use a different company. I have a good relationship with the people in my city's building department, and I later went in to see if he had pulled a permit for the job. Turns out, he didn't. I ask if I am going to get fined for this. They say no, because it was the builders responsibility, and therefore they would get fined. So do yourself a favor....and use somebody else. read more

Hired this company to do work on my home. The owner was completely inept, underestimated the project and then wanted to renegotiate the contract. He measured for the materials himself, more than once, then claimed he underestimated the job and we should have known because he was so much cheaper than our other bids---which he did not see. Sounds to me like a scam. I would not recommend this company unless you want to battle with the contractor and pay more than you planned. read more

There are much better contractors out there who will treat you better instead of making it seem like they are doing you a favor. The owner is a hot head who doesn't live up to his promises and does not pull the necessary permits. They don't return phone calls and and if you have an appointment with them and a larger job comes up, they will reschedule you in favor of the larger job. They are not worth the headache. read more

I wish I could give a zero. We were lied to multiple times. They took over two months for a job that was supposed to be done in 10 days. Poor quality and workmanship. Good luck getting a hold of Ernie or Scottie after you pay them. They will threaten you. You will end up with a poor product. They have been complained of to the better business bureau. I can't even get them to give me an estimate. "Scottie" came and took a lot of pictures of the rooms in my home I wanted painted. I also wanted an estimate for a hot water tank, toilet and door wall. It's been two weeks and Scottie never got back to me. I am very sorry now that I let him take pictures. Makes me very uncomfortable since there was NO follow up. If you can't trust them to get you an estimate in a timely manner I don't know why you would trust them to do the job. I am sure there are many people anxious to get the work. They do not seem to be. read more
