I attended the latest Premium Tasting Event at the ABC Fine Wine & Spirits location in SoDo. I have…read moreattended a number of these tastings in the past and have always had a great time. This experience was another fun and outstanding one. 17 tables were set up for tasting of spirits as well as various wines. The Manager, Hector Pacheco, always makes my visits memorable, especially at these tasting events. He was at the check-in table and recognized me immediately. He provided me with my wine glass, which also contained a chocolate inside the glass. He provided a listing of all the wines and spirits that were available at each of these tables. I looked over the list, circled the items I wanted to taste first and off I began on my adventure. The vendors were so much fun and provided valuable information on their products. Standouts in this group include Nancy, from the Winecellars organization, as well as Fernanda, Eileen, Max and Juan. These individuals were passionate about the wines or spirits selected for the tasting, which enhanced this event. After visiting a number of these tables, including going back twice for some, I purchased over $200 of product and had a fantastic time in the process. Small bites, such as cheese and meatballs, were provided during the event to assist in cleansing your pallet. If you have not been to one of these tasting events, you really should give it a try. You'll probably meet new friends as well as enjoy an appreciation for new wines and spirits.

Usually, I drive to Total…read moreWine to re-stock myself with beers, and, for some reason, I figured that ABC should have a nice variety as well (being the other big liquor store around town). Boy, was I wrong. Because I was running some errands around the area, I decided to give ABC a shot. I was dissappointed as soon as the doors opened. It's nothing like what I'm used to nor what I was expecting. And, it doesn't even have a quarter of the variety available at what I considered it's competition, Total Wine. It's just a whole bunch of the most marketed beers in the country, and just a handful of the bigger craft beer brands, too. I mean, I believe Publix has a wider variety than these guys! Overall, my ABC experience was dissappointing. The place felt like a gas station store that only sold hard liquors and wine. Yes, it was clean and easy to walk around, but you can find that in any other respectable store. I guess it's a good place to stop for quick, last-minute shopping, but if you're really into variety and high quality products, there's nothing for you in here...

It may not have a vast selection compared to other locations, but many top shelf liquors are available. As well as a great selection of wines both foreign and domestic, and many beers from national breweries to craft beers brewed either here in Florida or across the country. Many foreign brews too. This ABC also has a nice selection of cigars in their walk in humidor, snacks to go for your game day or party, mixers to make that cocktail, and even a case stocked with meats and cheeses to pair up with that wine you and your significant other uncorked. Oh, and they have the crackers to slap that cheese and summer sausage on as well. I usually stop in here for a few cigars to have on the patio in the evening when the temperatures cool down. But I have also found some great craft beer, and some favorite spirits to accompany a good cigar. The staff is friendly and helpful. And usually the wait time at the register goes quickly. But this place does get busy on the weekend. But they are well stocked, so don't worry. Cheers!
