ABC Commissary used to be a common stop for lunch for a day at the park. I don't know what picture I had in my head, but it definitely was not what I was remembering on my most recent visit. The menu is limited - as with most Disney quick service places - but there was limited variety too. Even with a small menu, we've come accustomed to having a good variety of items to choose from. I was in the mood for chicken tenders/strips and I thought this place served them. The only way to satisfy my craving was to order the kid's chicken nuggets. To be honest, I was glad for the price break I still got my fries and I got a small soda which was really all I needed. These definitely felt like nuggets that had been possibly sitting on a warming plate for a while as they weren't very hot when I got to my table. And it's not like I had to wait for a table; we were eating pretty early as we had eaten breakfast on our way down at 6 AM that morning. Disney's Hollywood Studios suffers from a lack of dining in general, but especially of the quick service variety. Here at the ABC Commissary (across an alley from the back side of American Idol), they try to serve a dish from many different cultures. Unfortunately, in a theme park you're not really in the mood for a lot of these dishes. Curry chicken was one option, as was fried fish or an asian salad, but we all seemed to decide on the chicken bleu, except we all left certain things off of it. I left the bacon off, my parents left the bacon and the cheese and the sauce off, making it just a grilled chicken sandwich. My daughter got the kids cheeseburger and enjoyed it. The atmosphere of this restaurant also leaves something to be desired. It's indoors, which is great, but TVs fill the place with ads for ABC shows. All of the ads were for the upcoming fall lineup such as FlashForward and Modern Family, but it's not something I really want to eat lunch to. I think we only came here because it was indoors and it was nice to get out of the 90 degree heat. There has to be better quick service locations in DHS, right? read more

Hollywood studios can be hot during the day. I always seem to come in August. Damn teachers life. So lunch break that is kinda reasonable priced. This is the option. You can get a beer at a NYC price. Good fries. Not so good burger. But here is the best part. There is always a seat. In AC. So great for a nice half hour break. Get those snacks. Glorified grab & go service. But the model doesn't work unless you have time and are sitting down. Took over 10 minutes to get a cup of coffee....which included flagging an employee...who pointed to the person who was about to fulfill my order.....then went back to training that person...while I kept waiting. Looked like, at open of lunch hour, there were about five employees being actively trained....and the floor employee who I asked directions from didn't know where the show was....though it was around the corner. This was a decent little stop for lunch while visiting Hollywood Studios. It was nicely air conditioned, was was desperately needed on a 90 degree day. Finding a seat was easy. The food was pretty decent, and the condiments were easy to get to. They are a little on the pricey side, but really, that kind of describes every food place within the disney parks. At least the portions are big enough that 2 adults can split 1 plate, which helps cancel out the high price tag. read more

What can i say that's remotely good about my dinner tonight?! Nothing. Over priced over cooked hamburger with spiced French fries that tasted wrong. Burger was worse than my old high school cafeteria burger that we couldn't stomach 35 yrs ago. How hard is a basic burger and fries guys? I was pleasantly surprised that there was a bit of menu diversity in this Disney Hollywood Studios counter service restaurant; I chose and enjoyed my surf & turf burger, a cheeseburger with three fried shrimp staked to the top. I actually removed the shrimp from the top of the burger and then placed them inside it; try it! The food was good, and our cashier was a trainee who was very pleasant and knew what she was doing, despite her being new to her job. My only complaint? Every open table my son & I went to for seating was dirty. While not good, it's almost understandable when the park is especially busy--problem is, Hollywood Studios wasn't busy that day. We ended up cleaning the table ourselves, and didn't see anyone even assigned to bus the tables until we were ready to leave. Tried the Steak with bleu cheese meal and the 1/3 lb angus cheeseburger with fried shrimp and horseradish. First, no horseradish? Wanted to try but on second thought, glad it's not on the frozen food. The steak was the worst thing I've ever had at Disney and does not deserve to share the Disney name. Gross. Points for seating, air conditioning, and the delish pumpkin spice cupcake. Also the mound of fries they give to cover up their mediocre food. For me, Studios is the one park that is lacking the most in food - especially quick service. I feel like everywhere is the same and you get all the same stuff. With that being said, I went to ABC Commissary for the first time in a very long time and was not disappointed. I was lured in with the prospect of non-burger food. And I was not let down at all! I ordered the strip steak with broccoli and fries, topped with an herbed butter. Now I knew going into this that it was not going to be a steakhouse steak or a thick cut by any means. However, what I was given was great! It was a thinner piece of steak which was cooked well done, but it was NOT chewy or like eating leather. It cut very nicely and was juicy with a great flavor. The herbed butter on top made it even more delicious. For the sides, the fries were great and the steamed broccoli was very good as well. I really appreciated that as a choice to go with my meal. As a dessert and because I'm a sucker for a good cupcake, I ordered the Anna's Birthday Cupcake. However, when I got to the counter, a sweet cast member named Percy asked if I was interested in a Darth Vader cupcake instead. I said OF COURSE because if you haven't had the Darth Vader cupcake, you're missing out. The only reason I hadn't ordered it to start was because I saw no signage for it. We were so hungry when we walked in. We were hoping they have a #vegan option, but wasn't betting on it. As we perused the menu...TA-DA...there it was written Vegan Burger in all its glory! One of the best quick serves in Disney. Usually plenty of seating and it's indoors, aka air conditioned! The food is good and they usually have different takes on what you see around all the quick serve restaurants (fried shrimp on top of a burger, Cuban sandwiches, etc). Just came to have a lunch with my family and what a disappointment. Was helped by a nice greeter that told us the Mobil app would save us time. By the time we filled out our order the line had moved tremendously. We waited 35 minutes for our food, after we had placed the order. On the app you have to order drink differently than the meal. When we asked the manager behind the counter he was reluctant and rude to get our small drinks we were promised by the awesome greeter. This is feeding the masses at its finest. ABC Commissary is located just behind and to the left of the hat. It is a big restaurant with lots of seating and overpriced, blah food. Disney has to find a way to feed thousands of people quickly and cheaply. You line up at a register, place your order, then stand at the counter to collect your food. The food is mass produced and tastes like it. It can get super crowded at peak times and there aren't enough bathrooms for everyone (ladies, be prepared to wait). ABS Commissary gets two stars because it does offer you a refuge from the heat. read more

Of all the places I ate throughout Disney, this was definitely one of the more... blase (c'mon yelp, how do I add an accent over the e?). Not only the food, but the whole environment, as well. It felt more like a mall food court than a Disney Dining Experience. While my Mediterranean salad was decent, and the chicken was cooked pretty well, the hummus and pita accompaniments were nothing to write home about. I got lucky that this salad was something I could eat, but the rest of my party barely saw anything on the menu that peaked their interest and they ended up with run of the mill chicken fingers and burgers, which were anything but impressive. After reviewing the menu online, I knew I wanted to try the ABC Commissary because it had a great variety of food compared to the other counter services in Hollywood Studios. Besides the usual burgers and chicken nuggets, they offer an impressive selection of seafood, salads, a surf and turf burger, and even a chicken bleu sandwich. Hooray for an oasis from the endless Disney CS burger merry-go-round! Arriving at the Commissary, I was impressed by the look of the restaurant. It's easily one of the biggest CS places in HS, and it looks like a cool California diner from the outside, lined with palm trees and posters for ABC shows. Nice first impression. Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was that the place was huge and air-conditioned. Yay! We usually try to eat lunch late to avoid the crowds, but even at 2:45pm, we had to wait in a sizable line. Because of that, I would be a little nervous to try and eat here at peak times, so just a heads up. The time passed pretty quickly as we perused the menus they had available. You order and pay at the register first and then receive your order at the counter. I ordered the seafood platter ($9.50) and BF had the cheeseburger ($8.75) and chocolate mousse ($3.75). I loved the seafood platter, which had two big pieces of fish and several pieces of fried shrimp and fries. They also offered lots of toppings at the condiment bar, including tartar sauce and honey mustard. Thumbs up! The serving was more than generous and I was super full afterwards. BF was pleased with his cheeseburger. I don't know how this cheeseburger was different from the thousands of others offered on property, but he enjoyed it. The chocolate mousse was more like a pudding texture and pretty bland, so BF ended up leaving most of it. Definitely not worth the money or the calories, blah. The dining area was very clean and had plenty of tables available. Tip: look towards the back behind the planters for quieter, isolated tables away from the noise. Lots of ABC shows' memorabilia, costumes, and posters line the walls and the TVs display trailers and shorts from ABC shows. The pastels and palm trees indoors are very soothing and lend to a low-key atmosphere, despite the tons of patrons around you. It's a cool environment that I really enjoyed. Pros: great menu variety, nice dining area (AC and good seating!), and centrally located in HS. Cons: long lines and seemingly a haven for huge tour groups. Cons aside, I'd say the ABC Commissary is probably my favorite CS in HS. I'll definitely be back as I'm always in search of a break from the usual boring CS menus. MGM / DHS had very limited lunch options compared to the other parks, so we always end up eating at the ABC Commissary and regretting it. The burgers are plain and generic, the chicken in the salad is fatty, and the service is very slow. They forgot to give us salad dressing and it took 15 minutes to get a workers attention at the counter so we could get some. read more

It is a standard quick serve location in Hollywood Studios, but given the lack of choices in Hollywood Studios it can be a very good choice. They have some very nice salad choices more than your basic garden choices and my husband says the fish is a nice change from the normal burgers and pizza around the parks in quick serve locations. The chicken club is my go-to at this location and never lets me down. They also have some adorable kids meal buckets. Another nice thing about this location is that it is large enough inside that on hot days you can have a meal out of the sun. read more

Come on Disney, as a faithful DVC member, stock holder, and general fan, I have to call BS on this excuse for food you put on the plate. Aside from the ridiculous waits, what was brought to me on a cardboard plate, looked more like kibble than food. Again the choices for something health were totally missing, and then what does one get for $10 you might ask???? A piece of cardboard with traces of chicken. A burger that looked like it was from the day before and just reheated, and these were the top choices. This is also the same food at every Disney quick service restaurant. So don't believe the hype, Disney doesn't care about nutritional value is all bottom line $$$$. They don't care if we wait hours in line b/c they are letting too many people in for they service they can maintain. (No Mickey I didn't accuse you of breaking fire code, just of not hiring enough staff to serve 100k people! Come on 3rd most recognized name in the WORLD, why don't you get out of the food business altogether and sling your weight around with Chick-fil-A, Panera Bread and any other group and then lease them space inside the theme park, hell, take a cut, but stop serving this poison to me and my family. We always eat here at least once while we're at Hollywood Studios. We eat here because steak is on the menu for a reasonable price. That being said, steak is no longer on the lunch menu which was very disappointing and was replace by a chicken/rib meal. It's very clean but service is super slow waiting for your food to come up.
