Our driver William was easy going and we never felt rushed. Overall our experience was positive and we would use VaLimo4U again in the future. Couple of things to keep in mind: 1. They do not do contracts. I asked about this when paying our retainer fee. Not a problem for us, but worth mentioning. 2. Some of the features in the Hummer Limo were not functioning such as the special laser lighting. Again, not a big deal to us. 3. You need to bring a USB cord with you to play your own music. 4. I recommend bringing your own ice or requesting it from the company. We did not have ice in the cooler for our trip. Also, not a problem for us. Thanks for the great experience!

My partner and I enjoyed the 3 hour ride on the Allegheny Special in the dome car. The staff were…read morehelpful and friendly and the seating upstairs comfortable (I'm 6'4", and sometimes that's an issue). When we were seated, we were offered a drink and a bag of potato chips. After that, they handed out the boxed lunches we had pre-ordered. We each had the veggie wrap. We both thought it was outstanding. Because of the large bag of chips we had just had, we each ate only half of our wraps and took the other half home for dinner. I was impressed with the flavor, freshness and quality of the wrap. It came with a very good pasta salad and a chocolate brownie (excellent). The beverage service was well done, with staff coming by periodically to offer drink refills. A variety of soft drinks and coffee were complimentary throughout the ride. And we got to take our glass home as a souvenir. The ride itself is scenic for part of the way. Leaving Staunton out into the countryside did involve a fairly long stretch where there were trees on both sides, but you couldn't see into the distance. Then things opened up. There was periodic recorded commentary about the history of the area, about trains and some about the mountains and other sites we passed. Halfway through the trip, we stopped and they explained that half of us in the dome needed to get our things and go downstairs for a few minutes so they could reverse all of the seats (so we wouldn't be riding backwards on the trip back.). That process seemed to take over 20 minutes (a long time), but it did make the outside viewing on the trip back much more enjoyable. The ticket isn't cheap, but it's a good experience, the staff are nice and hardworking and the food (what we ordered) was quite good. If you are looking for a train ride with incredible views, you likely would prefer the Amtrak options, including between Denver and Emeryville, CA. But this is a pleasant diversion for a few hours. We went mid-April. I suspect the experience is different in the fall and at other times of the year.

I am being gracious giving three stars for the wasted trip experience I had on my first experience…read morewith VA Scenic Railway. My ride left Goshen, on time, at 3:00PM on Friday, Oct 2, headed for Staunton on a 2 hour journey. We made it as far as just South of Buffalo Gap (in between the entrance to Elliot Knob and Shenandale Skeet Club) We had to side track because an Amtrac train was headed towards us at 60MPH. We sat on the side track for, at least, 15 minutes until the Amtrac flew past us. We then reversed course and followed the Amtrac back to Goshen. The trip ended at the beginning of the area I was excited about seeing (the track area between Buffalo Gap and Staunton) as the route we road was parallel to RT42. You can see the exact same views from your car driving to Goshen. The tracks move away from RT42 just before Buffalo Gap. The ride write up shows the train traveling thru these areas. We never made it. Other than my first train ride, I wasted $280.00 on a lounge car. Do not book a ride with the expectation of traveling the route listed because it may not happen. The lounge car and the staff were great, thats the only reason for 3 stars. I feel cheated.

I do NOT recommend this establishment due to poor customer service and unmaintained properties. My…read morewife and I had booked a 4-night stay over the 4th of July weekend (total cost over $1,000) but we checked out 2 nights early because of the state of the property. If you're looking for a fun, comfortable, outdoorsy stay in the area, check out the Postcard Cabins instead! THE GOOD: The property is located in a beautiful area. Views are great. I really like the food at Bearr Appetit restaurant -- kudos to the chef! THE BAD: Customer service is poor. I get the impression management must have simply stopped caring at some point. Example 1: I tried contacting the property multiple times before our reservation. Half the time, nobody answered the phone. I left a voicemail once and nobody responded. The two times someone answered, they promised to call me back with an answer to my question, but never did. Example 2: The morning of July 4, only one server showed up on time for her shift at Bearr Appetit. The poor girl was HUSTLING to keep up with multiple tables, indoors and outdoors, in hot and humid weather. I'm standing alone at the host stand waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes. A manager (owner?) is sitting at the cash register counting the money. Finally the manager/owner stands up, starts heading the the kitchen, sees me, and asks, "Are you waiting to be seated?" I say yes. She POINTS AT THE POOR WAITRESS who's struggling to keep up and says, "She'll be right with you." Then proceeds into the kitchen. Finally I asked the waitress if I should seat myself, which she appreciated and agreed to. Example 3: Upon departing 2 nights early due to the condition of the property (discussed below), my wife wrote an email explaining the issues and asking if they'd refund one night as a compromise. It's been a week now and we're starting to doubt we'll ever get so much as an acknowledgement. THE UGLY: My wife and I stayed with our dog in the Speckled Owl cabin. It's a good sized, secluded property, but it soon became clear to us that management puts minimal effort into maintaining it. Example 1: The first thing we noticed was that the ground floor was COVERED IN DEAD MILLIPEDES. We immediately called maintenance, who promptly came to vacuum them up. But in less than 24 hours, the floor was COVERED IN LIVING MILLIPEDES. This made the first floor basically unusable to us. If we needed something from the kitchen we had to tiptoe around the bugs. By Day 2, the millipedes were migrating upstairs to the bedroom. (That's when my wife decided we needed to go.) Example 2: Enormous cobwebs everywhere, inside and outside. Example 3: Patio and terrace furniture was filthy and disgusting. Bird poop and other crap all over the chairs and tables. Example 4: Linens and towels were old and worn to the point that we wondered how clean they were. Example 5: The mattress was awful. You can feel the the springs and if one person moves, everyone moves. Bottom line, we were extremely disappointed in Lydia Mountain Lodge & Cabins. We feel there's a lot of potential to make this into a special place given the wonderful location, but that the current ownership/management has no real interest in the guest experience.

There was no one else here until just before it was time to board the ONE commercial flight. Sitting area was tidy and comfortable with power outlets around. There's even a vending machine if you want to get a candy bar or a drink for your flight, but remember that the rules on liquids still apply here. Eventually, the other passengers arrived and then the crew and the TSA and the local cops. My TSA screening went fine but my two fellow passengers (yep, only three people on this regional jet this morning) both had major challenges getting screened. Weird.

Our tent had an AC unit, small fridge , microwave and hot plate. It also had a bathroom with a nice shower. My kids slept in another room with bunk beds and the AC was not located in there room so we used a fan to help push the air around. Since you are sleeping in a tent the you can hear everything happening outside. So light sleepers be aware. I would highly recommend renting a golf cart to get around because of how the camp ground is laid out. Plus taking a little golf cart ride on this camp ground is a good time there are tons of little paths and roads to explore. This is not what I would consider a " party camp ground" the vibe is more laid back. They also have a quiet time that they do enforce. Overall I enjoyed myself here and would come back again

The cottages (there are 4 to choose from) are well appointed with everything you need and lack exactly what you don't need in a place like this (phone, tv, or internet). The cottages are in Dyke, VA about 20 minutes from Skyline Drive so it's very easy access for hiking. It's about 45 minutes to Charlottesville where you can shop for groceries, go to dinner, or just hang out if you need to reconnect with the city. The cabins have jacuzzi's, full kitchens, grills, backyards with fire pits, indoor fireplaces and board games. They also have a salt water pool in the main house that you can use (and I recommend after a hike!). Personal touches make this place what it is: they've thought of everything. We also loved the fresh cookies that were dropped off at our house and Chuck and Stew always write us personal notes to welcome us to the house. Looking for privacy? The cabins are secluded and you enter them via a keypad on the door so you don't have to check in or out...just come and go as you wish. I highly recommend this place! And will be back in the fall.
