I did not expect to find a place like this in Beaumont. It was right near our hotel and I love Mediterranean food so stopped by. We had a gyro sandwich, a Greek gyro sandwich, hummus, stuffed grape leaves, a Greek salad, three flavors of baklava and an American (ham and turkey) . Everything was tasty but the pickles in the Greek gyro were a nice surprise. It really gave it a pop. My dad said his American was "really good" which is the highest unsolicited praise he gives. The hummus was ok. The grape leaves good. The baklava was not overly sweet, which I think is always the downfall of this dessert although the chocolate baklava was surprisingly rich. The little market in the store has a great selection of teas, spices, desserts, cheeses, meats, olive oils, drinks, and international staples. Oh, and RV parts. There is an RV park in the back apparently. In addition to the food I wound up walking out with spices, teas, snacks, cookies, and more tea. If I had a way to keep the cheeses cold I would have bought a bunch of cheese. Big selection of cheeses. So, if you are staying the night in Beaumont, visiting the awesome wetlands to do some birdwatching just down the road, or you live nearly, stop in. And yeah, there is some religious stuff on the walls and the tables (giant Jesus family tree anyone?) no one tried to convert me. ;) They seem like a nice family and I'm a full-on atheist. We stopped by Abbie's Imports because of the great reviews & we were not disappointed: charming folks & fresh & filling food! The Falafel Gyro was very good, as were the salads. The Baklava was delicious, not too sweet, and there were several varieties. We also picked up some tea & other favorite speciality items in their grocery. The current nearby bridge construction almost caused them to close, but loyal customers have help to keep them open! Thank you!! Let's keep place going! It is a Gem! Today I picked up lunch at Abbie's Import. This eatery and store have been in our city serving Mediterranean food for decades. The very first thing that impressed me was how friendly everyone was. Thid included the owner him self. He smiled, spoke to me and asked if I was being helped. Inside is a deli where they make salads, sandwiches and small appetizers. They also provide tables to sit and eat. A small store with imported food is also available to stop and browse. They have a large menu for such a small deli. Everything sounds delicious and I had a difficult time (as always) deciding what to order. As an appetizer I ordered the hummus & pita for $2.95. The hummis was not bad (I've had better)but the pita was crispy and I would have preferred it to be soft. Next, I ordered a small Persian Salad for $3.90. This salad was totally refreshing and delicious. The crispy cucumber, tomato, red onion, lemon juice, olive oil and spices made this salad perfect. I could eat it every single day. I also ordered four falafels to eat with tzatziki sauce. I wasn't impressed with the falafels, I like Al Basha the best, but the tzatziki was excellent. Now for the entrees, I ordered the Cajun Pizza for $6.50. These pizzas are made using fresh, soft gyro bread. The pizza had boudain, mozzarella cheese, and onions. It was good, but would have been better with spicy boudain for me. The absolute best item on this lunch was the Spinach Pizza with pepperoni for $7.00. It was made with fresh baby spinach, roasted red peppers, pepperoni, and fresh mozzarella cheese. The freshness of the veggies and cheese made this pizza so perfect. It makes a great summertime lunch. I will be getting this pizza again real soon. Also on Friday's anyone over 60 get a 10% discount. WOO-HOO!!! Check out their menu on the web. Stopped in to get a few dishes for a picnic at Tyrell Park. Everything was delicious. We tried the tabouli, orzo pasta salad and Persian salad and the baklava- yummy! We will definitely be back. I could eat Abbie's every day! The deli staff was loads of fun and extremely kind to our group. They made it very easy to order, even though we all ordered multiple times! I started with a heaping bowl of Orzo Nut and Fruit salad, and I could've eaten it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Subtly sweet and zesty, it made a perfect starter. The Tabouli was the best I've had, and emphasized the bulgur over excessive parsley, like many other places do. The Dolmas were delicious, and the falafel was fantastic as well. Both were even better generously coated in Hummus and Baba Ghanoush! It was wonderful to find bulk grains like bulgur and buckwheat that you won't come across in any HEB. The spice selection is like nothing else in the area, and the 7 Spice Blend is a must-try! The fresh dates made a perfect dessert and take-home treat, too! Since RV'ers like any traveler, have been many places, the owner, Abbie, is open to their food suggestions. Sandwiches pita, gyro exotic salads. Olives, cheeses and cured meats and sausages of every herb and texture. Imported herbs and flavors abound. A cornucopia of gastronomic pleasures. If you are a regular, you know what you want and can order and get out quick. If this is your first visit, please do yourself a favor and set aside time to explore. The staff is very eager and competent to guide the newcomer through the land(s) of exotic foods. This place defines elective. Almost a museum in the variety of world foods available. I went here after going to Cattail Marsh and the Beaumont Conservatory. It was right around the corner. I had the hummus, olive and tomato pizza and it was delicious. I had pistachio baklava for dessert and it was one of the best I've ever tasted. I staff were very helpful and friendly. They had a good variety of refrigerated middle eastern foods to purchase to take home as well as a wide variety of spices. I would definitely return! read more

Great place to grab a delicious gryo or falafel for lunch. There is limited seating and it is technically a grocery store, so be aware that it can be an awkward eating experience. Mrs. Baradar who runs the store is a really nice lady and all three-ish employees are very knowledgeable about middle-eastern food. read more

It is quite small and wish it was a little bigger because it's the one of the few good places in this area. Clean and well organized. It has the items we need so we don't have to go all the way to Houston. Owner gets most the stuff from Phoenicia and willing to order anything that he doesn't have in stock. Great yelp find on a road trip through the state. Conveniently right off I-10, it is a nice alternate to road trip food. My hubby had a Gyros it was very good. I had the "med 2" and it was very yummy. I would love to come back to try more of their menu. read more

Adore this place! There are different, healthy and not-so-healthy menu selections and amazing charcuterie, cheeses and olives to select from. If you don't know what something is, ask the staff and they will be more than happy to explain it (I have done this many times and never feel like I'm being laughed at). My only complaint is that they aren't open for dinner, but technically it's a store, not a restaurant, so it's understandable. read more

I used to come here very often. My life circumstances have since changed, but I've been meaning to come back. The owners and the employees are all very nice and helpful. I love this place because it has a lot of Greek foods and goodies, such as very delicious gyros. I myself am of Greek heritage, and authentic Greek food is difficult to find around here, so of course I'm fascinated. They also have items that are hard to come by in regular grocery stores (Abbie's is a deli/store) such as rooibos tea, organic and raw honey in a glass jar, and so much more that comes from Greece and surrounding countries. It's a very unique place. I just wish they would extend their operating hours. read more
