Wynyard Arcade may not sund like the most luxurious place to grab your lunch, but it does have quite a few sushi places. Having tried both Megumi and King Sushi Roll, I thought I'd complete the set and head round the corner to Asahi Sushi.
It looks like an ATM of the sushi world, a tiny little counter in a hole in the wall, but as the queue shortened and I got nearer I realised this may well be the cheapest sushi I've found in Sydney.
The pre-made boxes were from $4.50 and came with a number of different combinations, including sashimi. There was also a fantastic offers on large rolls which were only $1.50, the same price as their Miso soup. Bargain!
Being a 'variety is the spice of life' kind of gal, I got their cheapest box which included salmon and prawn sashimi, and four chicken teriyaki rolls. Ginger is bought separately. I took my box up the escalators to sit on the grass, an idyllic idea, but you will have to wrestle with Ibis over your lunch.
I did find the sushi was a bit too dry, as though the box had been sitting in a fridge for too long, so I missed out on that fresh taste which I so love in sushi. A shame, but what was I to expect at such a great price? read more
