    Sushi lunch set menu

One of the many sushi train places in Sydney but the quality of the sushi is pretty good. Not spectacular but it's fresh. It is a little weird to have an aquarium in the middle of a sushi restaurant but so it goes. Service was a little off. All the servers seem uninterested (i dont blame them) but that is not important since there is a sushi train!

Probably the best Japanese sushi train I have had in Sydney so far. The quality was great for Sydney standards, although still not at Japan standards. The prices were fair between 2:30pm-5 for their "all plates $3.50". Plenty of variety going around the train, easy to order special requests, extremely tasty. Only negatives were no tea offered and again couldn't find any pickled ginger at the tables or on the belt. Definitely worth checking out if you have come back to Australia after Japan and you simply get disappointed at the Japanese food in Sydney, this one will make you think you are still in Japan.

This is a pretty good alternative to Makoto .. 2nd best sushi train in Sydney perhaps ? I went here today because I didn't want to wait for a seat at Makoto during the dinner rush. It's a nice looking place right opposite the Capitol Theatre. There is decent variety and it's certainly fresh and not far off Makoto standards. They have all the good stuff, salmon sashimi, scampi sashimi, all types of fish sashimi and also have a varied a la carte menu. The soft shell crab roll was pretty good, they have some original combinations here that set them apart from your average sushi train. The prices are on par with Makoto and you would be satisfied with this place if you're super fussy. It is close to the Makoto but just not quite better !

This was my first sushi train experience, I went there for lunch so it was pretty crowded. This place is good for a quick meal as many people come in, eat and go. The sushi were great and tasted really fresh! The price is vey reasonable ranging from $4-8 AUD depending on the colour of the plate.

Sushi train restaurants usually weird me out. How am I to know which rolls and plates have been circling at room temperatures for hours? It seems like a health gamble to me, which I usually don't prefer to take. When a friend suggested Umi Kaiten Zushi as a Monday night dinner spot, I didn't object, but I was certainly a little bit wary. We sat down at the large sushi bar next to the "train track" and in front of the large aquarium. I automatically breathed a little sigh of relief. This place didn't seem dodgy at all. We sipped Sapparo and I watched the sushi chef's quick hands at work. I asked him which cuts were the freshest. He was friendly and helpful and I waiting until his suggestions came around to my side of the bar. Everything I tried was delicious. From the salmon sashimi to the unagi mini rolls, it became a fun interactive game. I eyed the rolls I wanted, let them pass once and snatched them up as they came around again. I left stuffed (I was too good at the game) and singing quite a different tune about sushi train restaurants. With freshness and novelty in their bag, this is definitely a great place the dine.

Umi is a really good sushi train located right near the capitol theatre in china town. It gets busy here, but what's great is that its off the main street and a little hidden, so its less well known that alot of the other sushi train restaurants that get packed earlier and are hard to get into. The atmosphere's great here too, what I like best is the big fish tank at the back with all the tropical fish, although the fact that I'm looking at fish while eating fish always weirds me out. The food here is fantastic, one of the plates going around the bowl of fried fish is a must, as are the freshly made sushi rolls prepared right in front of you by the chefs. Definitely a great place to go when you're in the mood for sushi.

It may be cheap but the food is sub par. I ate a few limp edamame then gave up on the rest, the sushi wasn't much better. Tired and in desperate need of some tlc.

I love how the fish is labelled on the train and they often have quite a wide variety of different fish.

There was 6-7 people cooking on Friday night, one people at each station. Thus the food come out very quickly! We learn the hard lesson by making a mistake of ordering everting at once. Sure enough all the 8 dishes were delivered within 20 minutes.... make sure to place your order one to two dishes at a time. Food was good. Yakitori juicy, Hotate was fresh, seaweed salad, grilled mackerel, all dishes we ordered were pretty good. Old fashioned fries are a good deal (for Aussie price). Plenty of sake choices. You can choose from 100ml or 300ml so you can taste a little first, to see which one you like. I'll come back here again.

Yebisu Izakaya has this nice and friendly vibe. Full of energy and the service was excellent! We…read morewere here on a weekday every for a light snack so the wait for table was around 10 minute. The ipad ordering system is well designed with detailed descriptions and wonderful photos. I did have a higher expectation with the food after reading all these 4/5 star reviews but nothing we ordered was really memorable. Maybe I did not order the right things? Good as a place to meet up with friends and have a drink but if you are looking for higher quality of Japanese fare, you might need to go somewhere. Just be careful the portion is tapas style and your bills can quickly added up if you want to have a full meal here.

(Please read October 2018 update, can't be arsed doing yet another review of Makoto, but the news…read moreis good!) This hurts. For 15 years I've been enjoying that feeling of having a special place thats pretty much perfect. Where the guys knew me and the food was way above the rest. Makoto was the best Sushi Train I'd ever been to and it was fully 1 minutes walk down the road. So I went a lot, I mean at least 800 times. The value was there. My favourites were the tempura king prawn hand roll, the king prawn and omelette hand roll and the most basic of all, the salmon sushi. Thing was, all the offerings were fresh generous and delicious. Last year a new owner came in. You don't need to read anymore if you, like me, know what that always means. The first to go was James who had been there from the start. Most of the staff went because they put in the ubiquitous computer screen ordering system. Then they removed all the old prawn dishes. All of them. Now you are lucky if you get a pre prepared frozen crumbed prawn covered in a mayo mess. Then they reduced the sizes of every dish on the train so the salmon was much smaller. All my favourites disappeared or were scrimped. Then they put all the prices up. The next thing to go was the queue, then the regulars stopped going. Now there's barely anyone there at 12 noon when there used to be a wait for ten to fifteen minutes. I'll still go now and then because its still fresh and its still close. The really sad thing is that I see people there who never saw what it used to be - they probably think that this is a pretty good place, they don't know what it was like. Sigh. Update October 2018 The tempura king prawns hand rolls are back!!!! The other day they had the old cooked prawn and mayonnaise gunkan on the train, its not back full time but at least it made an appearance! The salmon sashimi is no longer scrimped upon. Its back to its old size. Back to 5 stars for the prawn hand rolls alone. Thank you God, I really missed those things. And they are still on the blue plates, which have been bumped from $3.60 to $3.80 - so what - 20c!! Two words - yaa. hoo.

This a big call but I think this is the best sushi train in Sydney!! Genrally I don't like sushi…read moretrains but this is certainly an exception. The seafood is always fresh and of a high grade. However this does come at a price and you will certainly be paying for it. They have great Salmon sashimi but my favourites come off the menu, not the train and they are the omelette and king prawn hand roll and fisherman's soup. The Agedashi tofu ain't bad either ! I only wish less people knew how good this place is as sometimes the queue is pretty long.
