I had the vegetarian bento kinda thinking maybe I should order more, but delicious dish after dish after dish came out and by the end I was STUFFED. The noodles in the udon were absolutely superb (so silky) and you can tell that everything is made super fresh. The eggplant dish (forgot the name) and the okonomiyaki are a must. Two full meals (with no holding back) only ended up costing us $57, which was so decent considering on how much we ordered. One of my new faves. Highly recommend.

We didn't have a booking and all the funky looking tables out the front were taken. No bother, I was so hungarious that it wasn't that important. Seating was irrelevant. I wanted all their foods. We were seated and given these wonderful little things that was a bit like a tangy salad served up in a tiny dish that you usually use to pour your soy sauce into. It tasted so good that I took my partners one too when he wasn't looking then promptly blamed a mouse. I ordered the gyukushi for my entree and wasn't disappointed. The beef was tender and the sauce was just perfect. Not too sweet and not too tangy. My partner ordered the yakitori - which was equally as delicious. I know this because the mouse struck again when I pointed out the interesting art work on the wall to my companion. Mains consisted of teriyaki chicken and the crispy chicken. Crispy chicken was mine and it really was crispy without being overpowering. I don't know how they do this... I might marry the chef. The teriyaki chicken was just as good. Mouse attacked AGAIN! They should do something about those pesky rodents. All in all, even though we were tucked away out the back the wait staff were just as attentive to us as if we were out the front of the house. A definite must do if you love all things Japanese.

The place has really nice wood inspired decor, which makes the restaurant look new and clean. We ordered the spicy seafood tofu soup ($13), ox tendon soup ($13) and kimchi with pork belly soup ($13). Most Korean restaurants serve side dishes and they had 10 different side dishes! Awesome! The kimchi is very traditional, they added little shrimp to the spicy rub for that distant taste. The kimchi was a bit young (hasn't been marinated in the mix long enough for a strong flavour) but was edible. The soups were quite nice. They were rich in flavour and had plenty of seafood and tofu (though there wasn't a lot of pork belly). But are they the best I've ever had? Mmm maybe not. Still, it was good. The table next to ours had ordered the Ming bean pancake and it looked amazing - so I would try that one next time. The thing that gives this place an extra star was their service - nice and friendly!

While they do offer these favoured items on the on the menu, there is also a good range of lesser known and perhaps extra authentic dishes. Take the banana flower salad, for instance. The crunchy edible petals taste kind of like a really mild onion, tossed with a sweet lemon-chilli jam dressing, crushed peanuts and plenty of fresh mint and Thai basil leaves. Meanwhile, the rich roast duck red curry is full of soft, meaty flesh and curry soaked lychees that add a nice sweetness alongside the meat. The restaurant itself is pretty basic and pretty small - just the kitchen at one end and timber benches inside, but the food is always executed well along with friendly service from the often one-man-band waitress.

They're a Thai and Lao restaurant, so on top of your favourite Thai dishes they've also got traditional Lao yummies like papaya salad with anchovies, larb (mince) salad and sticky rice. These guys are also not afraid to use spices and herbs in their dishes, which I love, unlike many of their competitors. To top it all off, they have an unusual but amazing fried icecream. Well worth going especially in summer... outdoor seating + spicy food + cold beer + finish with a fried ice cream = 2 thumbs up!

Anyway, since I hadn't had any for a while (basically a week), I decided to look for one as I was wandering along Glebe Point Road, and this place basically came up. As a restaurant it does its job, and it does actually have a much more authentic feel than some of those really flash thai restuarants that are appearing all around the suburbs. I ended up having a curry, but then that is what I generally end up eating at most of the Thai restaurants I visit.
