Decided to finally check out Chargrill Charlie's as its always packed with people each time I've walked past. I got a lot of different things as the large display of all the food made everything very tempting to get. I was surprised to see items like pad see ew and fried rice. The fried rice looked generic and nothing special; but the pad see ew looked too good to resist. The chicken wings were crispy and nicely seasoned. The pad see ew was as good as it looked; super flavourful and delicious. The creamy chicken and mushroom pasta is super creamy and delicious, one of my favourites. And wow their chips are like McDonald's quality - thin and salty. Overall I highly recommend stopping by but don't bother if it's packed with people as it usually is. read more

I usually order from Uber eats so I don't have much experience with the actual service until today. Wow what a shock I was in for. The young female taking my order was so incredibly rude. She may have been Indian in background. I was asking about gluten free. She didn't know what was and wasn't and when I asked for the bbq chicken she said it has gluten. The details aren't as important as how I was treated. She snarled and rolled her eyes at me. I commented that she didn't need to make that face at me. She was young in her 20's. I had my baby on me in my carrier. I'm just a Mum who was hungry wanting to grab a quick bite and get extra food for later on. I happen to be passing by and thought I'd grab food. When I alerted her to her reaction she didn't apologize she continued to make more condescending faces at me. I told her "I don't know why you're being so rude to me. I have done nothing to you. Please be kind. There's no need for this." There was a gentleman that overhead me asking her not to do that and he told her to go pack an Uber eats order. He took over my order. But also didn't apologize for her behavior either. I do really like their food and I was starving so I got the food and left. Spent $54 and this is how I was treated. There was no sorry, no here's an extra -- for the trouble. Nothing. It's so sad that this is acceptable behavior in this time in life. With so much in the world going on. I'm so disappointed, it saddens me. No one should ever be treated so poorly. No one knows what the other person is going through in life. It's very upsetting. Where to start. Pricing - they are extremely overpriced for what you get. They've essentially taken the age old charcoal chicken shop and tried to make it posh. They obviously started with the prices. $16.90 for a large salad is ridiculous!! They must be getting about 800% mark up profit for the salads alone. It's virtually impossible to get a chicken, chips, salad to feed a family for less than $80. Quality - the charcoal chicken is 'ok', the Portuguese chicken is always super dry. Chicken schnitzel is oily. And the overpriced salads are basically a tub full of green beans with a couple of tiny bits of avocado and soaked in dressing. Service - generally it's ok. Depending which one you go to. The st Ives one they are generally pretty rude. Wahroonga is ok but when busy they treat you like crap. Literally the only thing that is good about them is their chips. And for god sake teach your staff that putting a hot chicken on top of a cold salad is not a good idea!!! Save your money and go elsewhere read more

The food here always brings out the deranged person in me. I'm that spoiled for choice and visual food stimulation that I actually get angry and anxious. The salads are piled high and vary from a simple avocado/garden salad to Caesar, pumpkin and beetroot and lemongrass chicken. The herbed wedges are a staple but can be hit and miss as to hot or cold. The crispy pieces are especially delicious. The hot wings have a subtle tingle and the teriyaki skewers definitely aren't lacking meat. Chargrill Charlie's is more than a Wahroonga staple; it's practically part of the family. From the gaggle of parents picking up chickens and salads for dinner, or school kids loitering over chips and burgers after school, and the queues out the door that build up every weekend - this chicken shop feels like the lifeblood of the time poor/gourmet rather than fast food community. My generation knows the shop as 'Chookas' - which I think comes from a previous owner - but regardless, the name has stuck. Growing up is a blur of chicken rolls (doused in mayo), which eventually graduated into quarter pieces of chicken (the leg, of course) and hot chips. Then came the meatball and rice days of late adolescence (when chicken, it seems, just wouldn't cut it), followed by the chicken and salad days that claim my present. There's plenty of other things to try - the lasagne servings are HUGE and very tasty, as are the assortment of curries and stirfries that rotate with the weeks. There's no waiting around for what you order. The shop is a favourite for many locals and offers quick meals on-the-go. There is a large range of salads and other vegetable mixes. Everything is very fresh and well displayed. Would have liked for there to be some coleslaw- this is standard in most chicken shops. The shop is a little cramped inside in terms of seating (a bar type setting) but there are tables and chairs outside. read more

This is the North Shore version of the Seinfeldian Soup Nazi. The service is deliberately unpleasant but you will keep coming back. All dishes are well presented, large in size, well priced and super yummy. Your order will be met with rolled eyes or a bark of "speak up" or "slow down, I'm not a computer!" (True story). The value of the customer is displayed in the ticketing that literally reduces you to a number, and whatever you do, don't question the system or there will be "no soup for you!" Just thinking about Chookas chicken chips is enough to start me drooling. I have such fond memories of eating here when I was younger. The chips are hot, addictive and covered in chicken salt, just the way I like it. The service is friendly and the food is always fresh.
