The original Elvis (Pizza) moved away to the Brighton-le-Sands area back in the 90s, but when the name became available again, Paul Fenech decided it was time to bring it back to Rushcutters Bay. Now, this is no normal Elvis fan with an unhealthy pizza addiction, Paul is an Australian-champion Elvis impersonator and has a recent trip to Memphis to compete in the World Championship to prove it! On top of the regular Elvis shows - and people come from far and wide to attend them! - the restaurant also offers some pretty decent pizza! And yes, they all have Elvis song-names instead of the boring, run-of-the-mill names (although there's no Hound dog, which in hindsight is probably a good thing). My personal favourite is the Viva Las Vegas (Chicken Breast, Mushroom, Capsicum, Onion, BBQ sauce & Cheese - M: $15, L:$20, F:$24), with the Big Bossman (Tomato, Bocconcini, Chicken, Avocado, Sun Dried Tomatoes & Shaved Parmesan) a close second! It's BYO ($2 corkage per person) and is conveniently located next to a bottle shop. So if you're in a pizza mood, and you fancy a slightly different pizza experience, head to Elvis! N.B. If you really want to see an Elvis show, you can book the dinner and show package, otherwise you can ring ahead and see if the King is in the building.

I feel like I should give this place two reviews-- one for the pizza and one for the show!…read more The concept here is that it's "dinner and a show." The show starts around 9:30 and we got to the restaurant around 8, which was plenty of time (plennnnnty) to eat and hang out. The restaurant is tiny so expect to get to know your neighbours well during the evening. There's a package deal that's all-you-can-eat pizza/pasta/bread for $49 a person, which is what we elected to do. The food is straight up terrible- bland and greasy. Thankfully it's BYO and there is a liquor store next door so you can have a liquid dinner if you want. The show, however, is an absolute blast. The owner is a hardcore Elvis fan and had designed a little over an hour of singing that's filled with his top hits. The entire restaurant was singing and dancing along and at one point there was dancing on top of the chairs (oops, may have been the liquid dinner). Expect to leave with a smile on your face, but elect to eat elsewhere if you can. Shame that I couldn't rate it higher due to the food!

I am such a big fan of fried chicken especially since I had the original in street markets at Taiwan so my anticipation was building. It of course did not disappoint. The juiciness of the beautiful glorious chicken and the crispiness of the batter and skin, ugh, I have shivers going down my spine just thinking about it. They sprinkle on a wonderful spice mix and the 'spicy' one was hot enough to make me reach for water but so tasty. This is what Hot Star has nailed - everything that goes into their fryers (so everything on their menu) are fried to order and fried to a timer to make sure it's just on the right side of browned and burn-your-tongue hot. You may have to wait but boy is it worth it. This Eastwood branch of Hot Star seems much much the same as the others around Sydney - same plastic bag you're handed after ordering, same delicious mushrooms and curly fries, same queue on the path out the front. Points off for scoops which look a little too coated with seasoning but maybe they just hadn't cleaned them yet after a long day of trade...maybe. Or is it just extra flavour? Perhaps the key point of difference at this franchise is what looks to be a side business selling anime Lego figurines and what looks like vitamin and mineral supplements. To offset the fried chicken, ya know?

So scrumptious on a wet, cold Sunday... lamb was melt in the mouth, yummy and very filling. Other dishes enjoyed by the others as well. We followed with cuppacinos & other beverages, brought our own "birthday cake" by way of greek sweets which seemed not to be a problem for staff. However, the reduction in stars is due to a stuff up on the bill. We were charged extra $20? for having ice cream & 3 extra cuppacino s. Alerted Carmen to discrepancies who sorted something out with girl who took our order (saying it was accidentally added from other table) but no apology at all. The glitch threw us in working out our bill/who ordered what, taking awhile, and one of our group heard Carmen say "get on with it" as she walked past. What a shame our delicious meal was spoiled by such rudeness toward us by the restaurant owner at the fault of her own staff! I ordered two entrees - I had the prawns and calamari and an eggplant parmagiana. My seafood was amazing, really crispy, luscious salad, great dipping sauce. I wish I had not been such a greedy guts and stuck to that only. The servings are VERY generous, gotta give them credit for that. The eggplant parmagiana was pretty bland. I mean, you know it can't be great when you order an eggplant parmagiana and then you have to ask the waiter to bring you more parmesan cheese... because it doesn't have much taste. My whole table was like, uhhhhh.... really? I'm like, yeah really. My eggplant parmegiana tastes like it's missing... PARMESAN! The food took ages to come out... like ages and ages and THEN when it did come out, they forgot my friend's gnocchi and she was sitting there even longer with no food while everyone else was chowing down. Then to add insult to injury, when she gets her gnocchi and is almost finished, the waiter comes by and is like "are you finished?"... and she's a nice, agreeable type of person and she says yes and lets him take it away, but really she wasn't finished, HE RUSHED HER. Dude, if someone has a fork in their hand and food on the plate, THEY ARE NOT FINISHED! Don't ask people if they're finished! Just leave them alone! So yeah, nothing totally awful, but definitely wasn't exceptional in any way. I don't think they deal with larger groups well.
